Most iconic winter 2026 anime openings

10. Tamon's B-Side ("Sweet Magic," by F/ACE)

An unexpected breakout hit this season was Tamon's B-Side, a romance about a popular idol who's actually a gloomy introvert. The opening, "Sweet Magic," performed by the in-series idol group F/ACE, completely reflects that vibe as soon as you hear the opening guitar riff; it grabs your attention and won't let go.

The opening uses clever transitions and warm colors to illustrate the disparity between Tamon's public and private personas. It earned #3 in the Anime!Anime! Winter 2026 reader poll for best opening animation. It is one of the better Winter 2026 anime openings from the newcomer side of the slate.

9. Fire Force Season 3 Part 2

Fire Force returned strong this season, with the first episode making its mark right from the start. The theme song "Ignis" by Takanori Nishikawa is a creative choice that would make any anime fan do a double-take.

This opening sequence has an old-school feel to it, and is the type of song you could listen to over and over again while driving a long distance. The visuals of the opening blend the energy of the new series with some very powerful character moments.

8. You and I Are Polar Opposites' Opening Theme

Creative visuals can definitely carry a strong opening, as in the case of You and I Are Polar Opposites. It is a romance anime about very different high schoolers, and the creative implementation of their oppositeness is the main way the original opening did it effectively. The visual direction was filled with clever inventions that demonstrated this.

You and I Are Polar Opposites maintained a consistent performance, ranking between #10 and #4 on ANN's weekly user ranking for the entirety of the season. This demonstrated how loyal fans returned to the show week after week. Of all the Winter 2026 anime openings, it was the one that truly made you stop and wonder, "How did they do that?"

7. Medalist Season 2

Over the last year, Medalist has been a huge anime hit, so it makes sense that the Season 2 opening would be as great as the first one. The Season 1 opening was fantastic; cheerful, emotional, and an excellent reflection of the ice-skating backdrop. The Season 2 opening captures that same feel, vibrant, fast-paced, and competitive, with plenty of enthusiasm.

The watercolor-style look of Medalist's first season also carries through Season 2, resulting in beautiful animation in motion. With Season 2's opening, Medalist landed at #4 in Japan's Anime!Anime! Winter 2026 poll.

6. Hell's Paradise Season 2 ("Kasuka na Hana" by Tatsuya Kitani feat. Babymetal)

"Kasuka na Hana" is a strong contender; the way it announces itself is unmatched. The drop, the transition, you can visually see and hear how special it's going to be. Hell's Paradise also landed #5 as the best Winter 2026 anime opening theme in a fan poll.

The visual style of "Kasuka na Hana" was also well done; however, the music really steals the spotlight with this one. Iconic openings are clear, you've only heard it once, but you already know that it will linger in your head for some time.

5. Fate/Strange Fake ("PROVANT" by SawanoHiroyuki[nZk]:Jean-Ken Johnny & TAKUMA)

Honestly, the Fate/strange Fake opening hit me harder than any other opening all year the first second it started. I would venture to say that this may be the best anime opening work by SawanoHiroyuki[nZk]:Jean-Ken Johnny & TAKUMA to date. It builds up to this cinematic explosion of energy; it starts with a very controlled, steady pace, then explodes.

Among the Winter 2026 anime openings from action-heavy franchises, Fate/strange Fake had the only opening this season that felt like a true cinema-quality piece. It deserved every single ounce of its hype.

4. Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 ("AIZO" by King Gnu)

MAPPA is a sure thing, as we all know. But the opening of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 showed the global community again why they are a sure thing, as the Culling Game arc needed an opening that matched its chaotic and high-stakes energy. This opening gave it to you. It has animation that is cutting at every microsecond, and it is unrelenting.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 is tied at #1 in Japan's Anime!Anime! Winter 2026 poll and was clearly going to be the frontrunner for the Winter 2026 anime openings, even with some surprisingly close competitors.

3. Journal with Witch (Ikoku Nikki)

This is definitely a dark horse that deserves to be in the top three. Journal with Witch is one of the slower, more contemplative shows that has an opening that parallels this idea with its gentle perfection. With a storybook quality and watercolor visuals, there is nothing like it in the Winter 2026 anime openings.

The Journal-Kamuy-Fate trifecta had, at least at some point through the season, a dominating presence in ANN's weekly user rankings, which says something. It is not flashy, yet it stands out among the louder, more intense Winter 2026 anime openings as it does not need to shout in order to stand out.

2. Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Season 2

The Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Season 2 opening theme is an emotional wrecking ball that wears a really pretty "coat." It begins with a nice, comfy, familiar feeling that makes you feel all warm inside, and then BOOM.

In terms of its visual design, the animation has a "dream-like" aura to it that definitely feels like the intention of the creators. Madhouse absolutely crushed S2's visual quality. This opening theme is a sign of their dedication to high-quality artistry!

1. Oshi no Ko Season 3

The opening of the new season of Oshi no Ko created a ton of buzz in the anime community from day one. Oshi no Ko is back for Season 3 with lots to prove and killed it with "TEST ME" by Chanmina. Once again, Doga Kobo's animation is on a different level this season than other studios. The fluidity, expressiveness, and insane amount of detail in each frame are simply amazing.

The choreography for the dance sequence in the Oshi no Ko Season 3 opening is literally top-notch; that's an understatement for the season. The song ties perfectly to Ruby's villain arc and thus makes it the best Winter 2026 anime opening.
