Anime characters that exist forever bear burdens that few other heroes ever have to shoulder. As they outlive the people they value, they are eternally young, and no matter how often they may try to take their own life, they are denied this. This appears to be a curse masquerading as a blessing that provides the character with the ability to experience life from the myriad perspectives provided by different time periods.

These eight immortals anime characters, whose interaction with the passage of time has evolved to the level of god or deity, while other immortal and non-immortal characters can resurrect through habitually resetting their bodies after each large number of deaths.

Anime characters with immortality who will never age

1. Frieren (Frieren: Beyond Journey's End)

Frieren is one of the most thought-provoking immortal elves who has been around for quite a while. She has been on this planet for over a thousand years, and she has biological immortality, which means she won’t age. She could probably live another few thousand years without showing the first sign of aging.

Her relationship with time is totally different from how we know it as humans. A decade can be nothing but a flash out of a thousand years. This will become the focal point of the story as Frieren learns how to appreciate the short-lived relationships humans have for their life span.

2. Fushi (To Your Eternity)

This is really different from other ideas of living forever. When Fushi came to Earth, he was just a ball of goodness and could turn into anything he felt connected to. So if he dies, instead of just dying Kinda, he learns how to improve and grow from the experience.

Every person that Fushi has lost has hurt him deeply, and he keeps going through the same cycle forever, learning and evolving as a result of each person's death, but just because you get to live forever does not mean living forever protects you from having hurt and suffering. In fact, living forever amplifies the emotional toll of losing people you love.

3. Rimuru Tempest (That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime)

Rimuru's immortality stems from reincarnation and evolution. He started as a human but became a slime and now has the potential to grow and regenerate infinitely fast. He is also truly immortal because he exists as a Spiritual Being that can live without a physical body. He evolved into an Ultimate Slime, which allowed him to have resurrective immortality by turning him into a True Dragon.

Becoming a True Dragon means that he can build from a cellular level. Rimuru doesn't just live; he is one of the strongest anime characters and leaves behind in the world of anime all of his amazing accomplishments.

4. Alucard (Hellsing Ultimate)

Among vampire anime characters, Alucard stands supreme with his unique form of immortality. He has consumed millions of souls that serve as reserves for his existence. Each apparent death only costs him one of countless absorbed lives, making him functionally immortal.

To him, this is boring and irritating; he sees it as being a prisoner. He wants to find a human who will be able to kill him, thereby making him question the value of life since he can never die.

5. Kei Nagai (Ajin: Demi-Human)

Kei embodies a different type of immortality among anime characters. As an Ajin, he can die (repeatedly) and come back from death almost instantly, and there is no limit to how many times he can do it. While the average human might live around 80 years, as an Ajin, there is no limit to how long he can live since he cannot be killed.

Kei’s “immortalness” creates both tactical advantages and ethical complications. When Kei puts his blood (and, therefore, his life) on the line to weaponize his own death, he proves that immortality can be a resource rather than a burden through the practical use of dying over and over again in combat situations.

6. Ainz Ooal Gown (Overlord)

The fact that Ainz is an undead Lich means that he has an ultimate form of immortality. He lacks biological functions and aging entirely, making him structurally immortal in a world of finite beings. Due to the number of ways that he can be brought back from death, Ainz will also be technically immortal even if he is destroyed.

Ainz's immortality also has a very dispassionate emotional state. He is also one of the cold-hearted anime characters because he must consistently pretend to be a God. Despite his overwhelming abilities, he has found himself stuck between his old life as an actual person and his new existence as an undead.

7. Killy (BLAME!)

Among the anime characters, Killy is an immortal traveller navigating an endless megastructure. He was once a human with cybernetic modifications; however, thousands of years have elapsed since Killy started his journey. Killy is alive due to his outstanding regenerative capacity, while his recollections become less clear.

Aside from finding people with Net Terminal Genes, Killy's only purpose is to destroy non-human enemies of humanity. Killy is otherwise unemotional and only shows emotions in the form of destruction when killing synthetic enemies of humans.

8. C.C. (Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion)

C.C. is immortal for a long time, like hundreds of years long. Even if she gets decapitated, she still survives, and she gives Geass abilities to other people, too. C.C. giving Geass power to Lelouch starts their relationship and the whole series. Most of the story, C.C. sees immortality as a very tiring curse on her. Her first goal is to pass that curse off to someone else so she can die.

Among immortal anime characters, C.C. is one of the ones who has lived too long and wants to get rid of being immortal. Some anime characters embrace their eternal existence to protect others. Others seek meaning in an endless expanse of time. A few view immortality as a curse they desperately wish to escape. Through these varied perspectives, audiences gain insight into mortality's value.
