Hell's Paradise provides a chilling view of the hierarchy that the seven immortal beings (the Lords) of Kotaku Island have over the land. The Lords use their time practicing the art of Taoism and receiving human visitors as expendable resources for their nefarious experiments. Because the Lords are so obsessed with finding the ultimate Elixir of Life.The seven Lords are Ju Fa, Tao Fa, Mu Dan, Gui Fa, Zhu Jin, Ran, and Mei, and are the major adversaries of Hell's Paradise. With each of the Lords being made of their own elements and elemental Tao attributes, they are all powerful in their own right. All of the Lords were created by their creator, Rien, and have spent over 1,000 years on their quest to achieve perfect immortality through the practice of Taoism.Who are the Lord Tensen?Tao Fa, as seen in the series (Image Source: MAPPA Studio)Tensen is the top rank of the Sennin that can be reached in Hell's Paradise. They are eternal beings that came to life through Flower Tao, which gives them huge amounts of regenerative ability and allows them to heal from any injury. The island's native inhabitants (Hōko) worship Tensen as gods and believe Tensen are gods because they came into existence when a Sennin achieved enlightenment.This belief is completely made up by the Tensen and is actually propaganda created by the Tensen themselves. The Tensen's real purpose is to research the Hōko while attempting to create the mythical Elixir of Life.The Individual Members of Tensen in Hell's ParadiseTao Fa, Ju Fa, Zhu Jin, Ran, and Gui Fa (Image Source: MAPPA Studio)Zhu Jin is the least enthused member of the group. He has golden eyes and orange petal-shaped hair, as well as a water attribute Tao that gives him devastating electrical powers in his Kishikai form, which is shaped like a large hibiscus flower. Despite being lazy, Zhu Jin is still strong enough to defeat Gabimaru.Ju Fa is the embodiment of angry outbursts and quick to anger in Hell's Paradise. He has a fire attribute Tao and has a very deep hatred of humans, considering them to be livestock. He and Tao Fa have been together since birth, and their relationship is reflected in Ju Fa's character.Tao Fa appears happy, but is a psychopath. She wields wood Tao, allowing her to fire projectiles that are invisible and cause internal injury. Behind her determined, blue eyes is also deep frustration over the group's long-term pursuit of achieving immortality.Mu Dan cruelly and sadistically tortures humans in Hell's Paradise. He has Earth Tao and enjoys turning all of his captured humans into servants and toys. While Mu Dan wears a calm smile, he possesses a sinister side and relishes inflicting pain and suffering on all of humanity.Ran is extremely loyal to Rien and thinks of the other Tensen as family. Ran has amazing strength, flexibility, and movements within combat (he can bend his body in ways that should not be possible). His water Tao and incredible hand-to-hand skills make him very powerful.Gui Fa is by far the quietest member of the team, hiding their face behind a book most of the time. Gui Fa has a metal Tao and has a unique, sexually ambiguous form (a combination of male and female). They can create illusions and place a great deal of pressure on a person through focused Tao.Mei stands out among the other members of Tensen in Hell's Paradise. Being the eldest and first created member, Mei does not approve of the Tensen's violent ways. Although she is child-like now, Mei has retained her regenerative abilities and her Tao of the water element. However, her regenerative and water element abilities are weaker than before.Powers and Abilities of Tensen in Hell's ParadiseRan's Tao manipulation (Image Source: MAPPA Studio)Every Tensen member has honed their elemental Tao through hundreds of years of training in their respective elements (water, fire, wood, earth, and metal) and possesses god-like powers. The Flower Tao is the signature regenerative ability of Lord Tensen. This power makes them nearly invincible in battle, though each member possesses a weakness located in their Tanden that can be exploited.Their "Kishikai" transformation is the ultimate power of Hell's Paradise and takes on a monstrous form that greatly augments their current ability. However, once they have transformed, the transformation can only last up to thirty minutes at a time, as this will exhaust their total Tanshi reserve. Some Tensen members (Ju Fa, Tao Fa) require fusion with additional Tensen members to obtain this transformation.Their Role in the StoryHell's Paradise focuses on the Tensen's quest for eternal life. To achieve this goal, they will release paradise butterflies across Japan so that they can transform all of humanity into flowering Tanden through a means that the Tensen refer to as 'arborification'. The result of humans becoming Tanden will be a massive bloom known as 'Banko', from which the Tensen will be able to draw enormous quantities of the Elixir of Life.Unknown to most of Tensen, Rien has a hidden, separate objective in that she plans to take the Tao that she stole from Lord Tensen and transfer it into the preserved remains of her husband, Jofuku, to bring him back to life. This secret, hidden agenda creates yet another level of deception and intrigue within such an already convoluted group of immortal beings.
