Black Clover Season 2 Episode 4: Nacht’s past unravels as Asta crashes the fight

Black Clover Season 2 Episode 4 starts with Nacht on the back foot. The fourth Devil Union has been initiated, the Mana Zone has turned black and white, and he is under attack from two devils. The tape rewinds to the night that molded him and reveals the history behind his wrongdoings.

What follows is Nacht’s entire backstory. After that, Asta appears. Episode 4 shows how Nacht’s family and their devil worship led to his twin brother, Morgen, perishing. The flashback ends, and Asta makes his entrance at the right moment, just when Nacht is running out of options.

Nacht faces the twin devils

Nacht uses a creepy plague doctor version of Devil Union. The area around him loses its color, and the devils look even scarier. He uses Gallus to bring himself and others to where he wants. Jack gets up every time and strikes at what knocked him down. This buys Nacht some time.

The twins, Naamah and Lilith, move with a cold, deadly calm. Black Clover Season 2 Episode 4 makes their design and voice sound horrifying. Right from the start, the difference in strength is visible. Nacht is trying to get time.

Morgen and the Faust family in Black Clover Season 2 Episode 4

The flashback showcases Morgen. He was gifted with light magic and worked in the Gray Deer crew with Yami. Nacht was his antithesis. He had blond hair and shadow magic and declined several invitations to join the Magic Knights. The audience sees a glimpse of young Yami in Black Clover Season 2 Episode 4; he seems to have started smoking, then he coughs after puffing on a cigarette.

Their family respected devils, and Nacht belonged where Morgen didn’t fit, which allowed him to summon four devils. Morgen arrived too late. Nacht had already summoned the Supreme Devil Lucifugus. Everyone present died that day except Nacht, and Morgen sacrificed himself for his brother. The loss has haunted Nacht since.

Nacht’s last stand and Asta’s entrance

In the present, Nacht performs Devil Union Gallus x Fellis. This spell means sealing himself and the twins in an eternal shadow prison. Nacht considers the price worth paying because he doesn’t mind losing his life. However, the plan fails in Black Clover Season 2 Episode 4 because the devils are too powerful.

Then comes Asta and Liebe in their devil union form. There is no more dodging for the twins thanks to Demon Destroyer, so Asta is finally able to hit them. Naamah is cleaved in half. Black Clover Season 2 Episode 4 uses this scene with great music.

The fused devil and Magna’s return

The surviving twin demonstrates no sorrow from losing. For her, this moment is a signal for fusion. The combined devil sends a gigantic ball of power toward Asta. Using Demon Slayer as a bat again, Asta hits it back to the merged devil. This move is similar to how Asta joined Black Bulls.

At this moment, Magna returns with Zora. The opening theme fades away while Asta’s swords are shining. Black Clover Season 2 Episode 4 omits the opening so it has enough time for its backstory. The battle stops halfway, meaning the Black Bulls will be back to fighting next week.
