Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War - The Calamity Episode 1: Uryu's fight and Yoruichi's transformation

Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War - The Calamity Episode 1 kicked off the final chapter with a super-important bang. The episode was released on July 25, 2026, which is the first new footage fans have seen since the show ended earlier this month. Studio Pierrot didn't wait long to show the audience two epic battles in one episode.

The episode features Uryu Ishida's battle with Jugram Haschwalth and a vicious fight involving Yoruichi Shihoin and Askin Nakk Le Vaar. Both events move the story toward the resolution of the Wandenreich conflict while introducing even more epic battles to come.

Ichigo Splits Off to Reach Yhwach

In the beginning of Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War - The Calamity Episode 1, we see Ichigo, Uryu, Orihime, and Chad coming together after what happened in the previous episodes. Uryu urges Ichigo to go straight to Yhwach's location. Ichigo takes Orihime and Chad along with him but leaves Uryu to deal with Jugram on his own.

Before Ichigo departs, he takes a moment with Uryu, passing on the fight with Haschwalth to him. He also gives Chad a few stone statues before rushing off to the throne room. This transfer sets up the first big fight of the episode.

Uryu Battles Jugram in Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War - The Calamity Episode 1

With Ichigo gone, Uryu focuses on Jugram, who has absorbed some of Yhwach's Almighty powers. Jugram dodges all of Uryu's arrows thanks to his new abilities while Uryu still tries to fight. In the end, Uryu finds himself pinned to the ground.

This is when Jugram reveals Yhwach's secret plan. Yhwach has opened a portal that provides access to Soul Society and the human world, thus creating a new realm dedicated to the Quincy, which is called the Welt. Uryu, however, quickly gets back on his feet to prepare for the next confrontation.

Yoruichi and Urahara Face Askin

In another part of the battlefield, Yoruichi finds herself in deep trouble as Askin’s Deathdealing arrows seriously hurt Yushiro. With Askin closing in on her to finish the job, Urahara steps in and saves her at the last moment. He gives her an immunity booster that allows Yoruichi a little time to fight back.

Askin soon catches up with them, and they have to confront him again. That’s when Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War - The Calamity Episode 1 reveals Yoruichi’s new transformation - Shunko Raiju Senkei, Shunryu Kokubyo Senki. The whole appearance of Yoruichi changes, with her enveloped in magical electricity and fighting in an almost barbaric style.

Yoruichi's New Form Takes the Fight to Askin

Once transformed, Yoruichi overwhelms Askin with a barrage of claw strikes and lightning-charged attacks. She fights without her usual restraint, driven purely by instinct during the encounter. The booster's five-minute limit eventually runs out, causing her to collapse right after the assault ends.

Next enters Urahara, who takes over the battle from Yoruichi. Meanwhile, Askin recovers from his injuries and soon comes back with his Gift Ball Deluxe, ready to fight Urahara, thus concluding Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War - The Calamity Episode 1.
