Daemons of the Shadow Realm episode 1 didn't hold back. The opener covered more ground than most series can in three episodes, from a tranquil mountain community to a full-scale military attack. You ought to be watching this series right now if you weren't previously.
Daemons of the Shadow Realm episode 1: The Peace Before the Storm

A birth occurs at the beginning of the episode. Grandma Yamaha, an elderly woman, cautions that since the twins are destined to rule the daemons, they should not be born until daybreak. Soon, a man declares that the children who sunder day and night have been born, and two weeping babies arrive in a basket. Then, Daemons of the Shadow Realm episode 1 advances by sixteen years.
We get to know Yuru, a young hunter who lives in a remote, traditional mountain community. He rides a horse, goes bow hunting, and assists his neighbors with their crops. He meets his friend Danji on the way back from a hunt, and Danji chastises him for going out by himself. Together, they ride back, stopping to discuss the weather with farmers and display the pheasant he caught to the children. Daemons of the Shadow Realm episode 1 takes its time to allow you to get used to this peaceful, comfortable life.
When they arrive at Grandma Yamaha, who is splitting firewood with Danji's mother, Danji's mother quickly uses Yuru as an example to make her own son put in more effort. As expected, Danji bails. When Yuru inquires about Asa, Grandma Yamaha reassures him that she is doing her job and is doing well. It's simple to ignore the word "duty" at first. However, practically every little detail in Daemons of the Shadow Realm episode 1 has a purpose.

Yuru visits Asa, who is housed in a cage. The two discuss how the harvest will be affected by the absence of rain. Yuru assures her that he won't abandon her as their parents did. It is a delicate moment that intensifies the impact of everything that follows. Daemons of the Shadow Realm episode 1 also presents Dera, a wandering trader who is adored by the locals, prior to the mayhem. Knowing that Yuru would never ask for anything for himself, he offers Yuru a ball for Asa. Dera is excited about the prospect of selling the pheasant feathers that Yuru provides him in exchange. He appears to be a straightforward, upbeat supporting figure. He isn't.
Daemons of the Shadow Realm Episode 1: The Dragons Were Actually Helicopters

Yuru and Danji mention dragons flying overhead in passing throughout the episode. At first, it sounds like typical fantasy world-building. Then, without notice, the barrier encircling the settlement drops, transforming those dragons into helicopters and the dragon trails into plane contrails. Daemons of the Shadow Realm episode 1 completely throws you for a loop.
The kids who were just laughing at the helicopters moments before are now trapped in the middle of a bloodbath as the horses panic and the grownups stand in terror. Grandma Yamaha informs three individuals that Yuru is the target and that they must reach him in the meantime. This attack was not random, as Daemons of the Shadow Realm episode 1 makes very evident.
The invasion is swift and ruthless. Soldiers in military gear pour into the village, slitting throats and cutting people down. After descending from one of the helicopters, a blonde girl named Gabby uses an invisible force that she triggers with a hand motion and the phrase "gobble" to nearly completely destroy a portion of the settlement. She spares one child and tells her she does not bite kids, which somehow makes her even more terrifying.
Daemons of the Shadow Realm Episode 1: Nothing Is What It Seemed

Using just arrows and close quarters, Yuru and Danji battle their way back through the village, eliminating two soldiers on a stairway. Yuru shows Danji a secret path under one of the Divine Guardian statues at the village entrance, which takes them directly to Asa's quarters. However, someone has already gotten there when they arrive. It turns out to be the actual Asa in Daemons of the Shadow Realm episode 1.
The cage is blown apart. The girl Yuru thought to be Asa is on the ground in a pool of blood. The culprit then turns around and informs Yuru that she is his sister and that she has come to bring him home. Yuru won't accept it. In an attempt to stop him, the real Asa unintentionally breaks the wall surrounding them when he draws an arrow. Dera grabs Yuru and bolts on the orders of Grandma Yamaha.
Danji observes them from a distance as they make their getaway via the shortcut. Yuru sobs outdoors because he believes Asa (the girl in the cage) is dead, doesn't know who that woman (the real Asa) was, and feels terrible for abandoning Grandma Yamaha. He and the viewer are not given a chance to catch their breath in Daemons of the Shadow Realm episode 1.
Daemons of the Shadow Realm Episode 1: The Arrival of Right and Left

Dera gives Yuru a medallion and instructs him to put it in the space between the two Divine Guardian statues when helicopters are circling, and there is nowhere to flee. After some hesitation, Yuru caves. He places the medallion, Dera slams his head into it to draw blood, and the statues erupt in blinding light.
The helicopters are ripped from the sky by two formidable creatures that resemble lions. The two entities announce themselves when the smoke clears. According to one, their new master seems amiable. The other reminds him that they have to obey their master regardless of their age. At the conclusion of Daemons of the Shadow Realm episode 1, Dera informs Yuru that these creatures, known by various names around the world, are his daemons.
What to Anticipate in the Future
The majority of the moving pieces that were set up in Daemons of the Shadow Realm episode 1 remain unresolved. Who is responsible for the invasion? Why does Asa wish to take Yuru away, and what is her true story? What happened to their parents?
It's actually a good thing that the show isn't rushing to respond to any of these queries. One of the main reasons it's so interesting is the mystery. If this premiere is anything to go by, Daemons of the Shadow Realm episode 1 is the start of something really special. Do not sleep on this one.
