Firefly Wedding Episode 1 review came our way ahead of the premiere later this month on Crunchyroll. The series' first outing balances gentle moments with oppressive ones perfectly.
Should anyone be curious about this fall’s romantic slate, keep this title in mind. The first chapter gives a delicate lead character, a shady newcomer, and a complicated relationship, and does a great job of establishing all these elements with effortless pacing and amazing visuals.

The series is based on Oreco Tachibana's manga that is currently in seven volumes in English. David Production is in charge of the animation work. The direction was done by Takahiro Kamei, while Yuko Kakihara takes care of series composition.
In Firefly Wedding Episode 1, Satoko Kirigaya is introduced as a noblewoman who suffers from an illness. Her father wants her to marry someone she can count on to care for her, so Satoko agrees since she knows she won't live long. However, this youthful love story doesn't stay on track, and the episode takes an unexpected turn when Satoko is kidnapped and encounters a hired killer, Shinpei Goto, who later shapes her fate.
The tone shift is the highlight of Firefly Wedding Episode 1

Firefly Wedding Episode 1 is notable for its shift in tone. The first half of the episode has a nice slice-of-life family feel, from friendly to nostalgic. However, at the halfway point, the episode has an abrupt change of mood. Satoko’s home life is pleasant and boring until it's not, making the change more powerful.
Goto, for his part, is unsettling from his first scene. He comes across as someone who has given up keeping track of the suffering he has inflicted. Although the show shows some evidence to the contrary, not much is revealed about him, and many questions remain unanswered at the end of the episode.
A strong start for the fall season
Firefly Wedding Episode 1 looks genuinely good. Satoko's character design is cute and suits the scene, while colors do change a lot as the episode proceeds. As violence occurs, blood is depicted in a more thoughtful way instead of just for shock factor. Background art of the house scenes gives off a sophisticated atmosphere and helps emphasize the weight of the events that follow.
At roughly 23 minutes, Firefly Wedding Episode 1 doesn't waste time. The two main characters are introduced, emotional value is set, and the episode ends in a way that makes you await the next one. Fans of dark romance will definitely enjoy the series, as will viewers who have not read the manga and have no idea about it.
Firefly Wedding Episode 1 premieres October 9 at 11:30 p.m. JST as part of Fuji TV's Noitamina block, with Crunchyroll handling the simulcast. Given how strong this first episode is, it's shaping up to be one of the more talked-about romance titles this season.
