Gege Akutami, the creator of Jujutsu Kaisen, has released some exclusive illustrations that have got people going crazy on social media. The illustrations were done for King Gnu's new single "AIZO," which is also the OP for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3, and people are debating about whether or not the illustrations reveal too much of the upcoming season.
The controversy comes from Akutami's image of Ryomen Sukuna residing inside Megumi Fushiguro's body. This artwork is a very direct representation of one of Jujutsu Kaisen's most shocking plot twists in the manga, leaving anime-only viewers who are not acquainted with the manga material to have been spoiled for something they would consider a major plot development for Jujutsu Kaisen.
Gege Akutami created some awesome illustrations in a pair of drawings. One has Satoru Gojo all in blue with floating figures. The other has Sukuna in Megumi's body with lots of red splatters and scary stuff.
Everybody who was watching immediately noticed the blood markings on Megumi's face. They line up perfectly with the tattoo markings Sukuna would have. The haircut looks like a signature Mohawk of Sukuna instead of Megumi's normal style. These two indicators make it clear what the identity of Megumi really is.
A massive spoiler for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 content

Sukuna possessing Megumi was huge in the Jujutsu Kaisen series, as this takes place during the Culling Games Arc, in the manga's chapter 212. Since their first confrontation, Sukuna has had an eye on Megumi and has been envious of Megumi's Ten Shadows Technique.
To pull off transferring from Yuji Itadori's body to Megumi, Sukuna put together an elaborate plan, which included taking advantage of a binding vow established previously in the series. When Megumi was emotionally damaged due to the apparent resurrection of his sister, Sukuna finally took his chance to take him over completely, force-feeding him one of his cursed fingers.
Why did Sukuna choose Megumi?

Sukuna was interested in Megumi because of the ten shadows technique originating from Megumi. This cursed technique allows one to summon ten extremely powerful shikigami, and thus gives the person who possesses it unlimited potential. Sukuna realised that by combining Megumi's body and the cursed technique to create a vessel, he would achieve the goals he was trying to accomplish.
Throughout Jujutsu Kaisen, Sukuna has been trying to keep Megumi alive for some reason. When they fought against Mahoraga, he healed Megumi and made sure to protect him. Now the audience understands what his long-term manipulation of Megumi actually meant, and this has introduced a new context for each of those situations.
When will this happen in the anime?

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 premiered on January 8, 2026, covering the Culling Game arc. The season will cover many different story arcs, like Itadori's Extermination Story Arc and Perfect Preparation Story Arc. Sukuna taking Megumi over should happen towards the end of the season and could occur in Season 4.
MAPPA is making the animation for the show, and Shota Goshozono is the director of the show. They will have a lot of pressure adapting one of the most intense and controversial story arcs from the manga. Viewers should expect the Megumi possession storyline to be done very well due to its importance in the manga.
The aftermath of possession
As soon as Sukuna takes over, Megumi's mind is trapped way down inside himself. As far as the Ten Shadows Technique goes, Sukuna is now capable of doing what Megumi never could and has gone so far as to conquer Mahoraga, the strongest shikigami of that technique.
This has created a dilemma for Yuji and his friends in trying to find a way to kill Sukuna without also killing Megumi's body. This issue is what builds up the majority of the plot tension left in the Jujutsu Kaisen series.
The artwork from Gege Akutami for "AIZO" may have leaked too far, too early. Though the pieces of art do look absolutely awesome, they have certainly given away the biggest twist of Jujutsu Kaisen to a bunch of people who only watch the show. The limited edition CD single will be released on February 11 and will make the controversial art available to collectors around the world.
