Hell's Paradise Season 2 Episode 12: The island erupts into a three-way war

Hell's Paradise Season 2 Episode 12 brings Studio MAPPA's twelve-week run to a dramatic close on Crunchyroll. The finale adapts manga chapters 87 through 89 from Yuji Kaku's source material. All of these multiple storylines (including the finale) are colliding together, and various threads have consequences that will last long after this season is done.

Hell's Paradise Season 2 Episode 12 delivered satisfactorily on everything left unresolved in the previous episode. Yuzuriha returned from her supposed death shockingly. Shija is introduced as another of Gabimaru's new rivals and has a strong connection to Gabimaru's past. Shugen's team closes in on the group of criminals from every side.

The episode opens with Chobei and the gang having taken a break to get healthy. Gantetsusai's talking about the "X" eyepatch Fuchi made, but Toma says "plus" would look cooler. Gantetsusai claims it's the mark of a seasoned warrior. Chobei interrupts the fun to explain Rien's plan to convert all of Japan into Tan with the help of an animal, "Banko," which is being kept somewhere below the palace. He also tells Toma that between being captured and released, Rien tortured him.

Shion and Nurugai Cornered

Shion limps through the palace with Nurugai's support despite Shion's severe blood loss. Shion promises to take her to a remote mountain region beyond the Shogun's reach, where Nurugai can live without fear.

This moment has some weight to it until Iwagakure shinobi appear from the shadows surrounding them in all directions. The order from Yamada Asaemon Shugen is clear: kill every criminal on the island, and kill anyone who defends them.

Gabimaru Wakes Up and Meets Shija

In Hell's Paradise Season 2 Episode 12's revelation, a figure emerges from the darkness to greet Gabimaru by name. Gabimaru eliminates the Iwagakure unit, raising their weapons in a very short time frame.

The audience then witnesses Shija's connections to Gabimaru in Iwagakure as they see all of the competitors' death as Shija made sure there were no other candidates left open to compete with Gabimaru. Shija only has one goal - to die at the hands of Gabimaru or to be the one who kills Gabimaru. He sees Gabimaru as the only person on the planet worthy of the opportunity for the showdown.

Yuzuriha Is Alive in Hell's Paradise Season 2 Episode 12

In Hell's Paradise Season 2 Episode 12, the most welcome news is Yuzuriha's return alive, well, and in a brand new outfit from Ran’s closet. She managed to hide out using her slime-based ninjutsu to reconstruct herself in secret and is now ready to assist Sagiri.

When Yuzuriha arrives at Sagiri's location, she quickly dispatches the shinobi that Sagiri was attempting to subdue without killing. After Yuzuriha arrives, Sagiri suggests trying to negotiate with the Iwagakure unit due to their ties with the Shogun, but Yuzuriha quickly denies this, explaining that their bloodlust will not allow for any negotiation.

The Asaemon Clash Points

Sagiri and Yuzuriha's reunion is interrupted by Asaemon Isuzu, who lists Yuzuriha's crimes of castle assault, murder, theft, false testimony, etc., as well as her refusal to see Sagiri's justification for working with Yuzuriha. Kiyomaru confronts Nurugai with contempt born from her tribe's past.

Asaemon Jikka informs Toma that Chobei's individual criminal history merits more than one hundred death sentences. Shugen confronts Fuchi and Gantetsusai, branding Gantetsusai a traitor and demanding that Fuchi explain why he would align himself with such criminals.

Hell's Paradise Season 2 Episode 12 ends with all the main cast surrounded. Shugen's army has gotten to all surviving factions. At this point, the island is now a three-way war and includes Gabimaru's team, the remaining dosi for Rien, or the Iwagakure and Asaemon reinforcements.
