Hell's Paradise Season 2 Episode 5: Chobei's betrayal dooms the escape plan

Hell's Paradise Season 2 Episode 5 destroys all of the planning and strategies that were in place for the infiltration. The infiltration starts during darkness with precaution and stealth, but there are still enemies hidden in the shadows. What was supposed to be meticulous preparation turns into a nightmare when the truth comes out; someone has already spoiled everything.

Chobei's betrayal dooms both teams trying to escape the island by confessing to Rian about the plot, thereby exposing the entire plot and allowing Tensen to prepare ambushes at each point of importance. This episode shows a collision between human desperation and counter-thinking strategy.

Teams Divide for Dual Objectives in Hell's Paradise Season 2 Episode 5

The first scene reveals the strategic formation of teams (one to obtain the elixir and another to search for a way out under Horai). The elixir lies in a fortification covered by monsters, but there are hidden ships and floodgates that monsters will not enter. Therefore, having found these lifts, their spirits to escape this treacherous island.

Gabimaru and Sagiri have both been assigned to the team that requires elixir retrieval. Because of their collective combat and stealth abilities, they are well-suited for this mission. Additionally, division officers will evaluate each member's Tao attribute before selection to maximize their effectiveness.

Training Montage Prepares the Group

Hell's Paradise Season 2 Episode 5 took some time to get through all of the preparation scenes. Yuzuriha is trying to teach Tao how to use stealth by hiding their presence. For students who are not used to manipulating things at that level, this is difficult. Gabimaru's teaching style also creates comedic moments with suggestions that seem impossible to do, like stopping the heart for a while.

Beyond this comedic training is important information about the attributes of the Tao. The four elements (wood, metal, water, and earth) have advantages or disadvantages when used in combat. May explains that whenever one goes to battle against someone with a natural disadvantage (based on the level of element), one should avoid it.

May's Confession in Hell's Paradise Season 2 Episode 5

The feelings explode when Gabimaru and May talk. After she finally admits she wants to be free from this island but still needs closure first, May wants to speak to Rian and the Grandmaster to understand why they have gone from good people to terrible scientists conducting horrible experiments on people. May's wish for a normal life is the same as Gabimaru's for his wife.

Gabimaru decides to help May get close enough to see Rian and the Grandmaster, and thus establishes a stronger bond with May and establishes a personal stake in helping her complete their mission and stay alive.

Chobei's Dangerous Position

In Hell's Paradise Season 2 Episode 5, Chobei is put through the sage ritual with the Tensen. Rian becomes fascinated with Chobei because of his unique Tao and brings him to a lab. The lab is where they have a giant plant to refine Tao from humans, and where Rian tested Chobei's Tao to see how far their testing has gone.

While Chobei has become strong, he quickly learns he is still no match for Tensen, so he has to wait and look like he is going to cooperate. But his cooperation costs his former friends dearly.

Devastating Revelation

In Hell's Paradise Season 2 Episode 5, the big surprise happens when the infiltration crew finds a Tensen waiting for them. Ran is hiding his presence by using the same methods Yuzuriha showed them. The trap is now completely set.

Now, this revelation ties back into earlier flashback scenes where we see Chobei with Rian. Chobei could not last under torture; he could not maintain his strength under torture. Instead, Chobei freely provides information about the future attack. Chobei is completely and exclusively loyal to his brother Toma. He considers everyone else his enemy and a potential sacrifice.

The end of Hell's Paradise Season 2 Episode 5 sees both teams battling against Tensen. The team escaping is found to have also found the enemy in their path. Gabimaru's claim that meeting one of the Tensen equals losing their mission turns out to be true there as well. Now, all groups are about to have to fight.
