Fans of JOJOLands have been following this manga for quite some time now, and Hirohiko Araki's work has officially ended its Act 1. As Chapter 33 has been released, the story has undergone a nine-month time skip, and readers were not expecting the creator to change the narrative like this. Suddenly, the main cast is facing the mystery of the missing antagonist, and someone who has performed a cybercrime against Usagi's family.

One of the most welcoming teasers that JOJOLands Chapter 33 has introduced is about Rohan Kishibe making his way back to the story. Readers are hyped for the next installment to come soon, because we know that whenever Kishibe makes an appearance, the narrative is going to be as chaotic as they come. With Act 2 officially beginning, the story is feeling different since it first began.

This series is popular in the fandom because of how it follows a continuous storytelling format. So when JOJOLands Chapter 33 was released with a timeskip, it felt like a massive change in pacing. The only other time where there was a leap in time took place in Stone Ocean, where Pucci reset the timeline.

Other than that, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure has followed a linear path. Now, nine months later:

  • Howler is completely missing.
  • The North Slope remains under military investigation.
  • The gang still hasn’t received its share of the money.
  • Jodio has a driver’s license and is terrible at driving.

The tonal shift is immediate. Instead of high-seas Stand warfare, we get a chaotic fender-bender that almost turns violent, until Usagi saves the day using Mate Kudasi’s ability to manipulate dash cam footage. We have a part of fandom that is predicting that we might get an arc that is focused on Jodio and him getting a driver's license.

How Araki pivoted the narrative from lava rocks to laptop scams?

With starting Act 2, Araki has pivoted his narrative by introducing a new conflict to the story. We have been introduced to a cyber scam that has targeted a mother who is in a vulnerable position in her life, as she has to deal with medical bills. The victim this time is none other than Usagi Alohaoe's mother. Posing as fake tech support, this scammer ends up emptying the bank account.

To add to his bad luck, his younger sister Tori, who is suffering from a chronic illess has been kidnapped. The realism of the scam is uncomfortable and intentional. Araki has shifted JOJOLands from a battle over land and weapons to a story about modern exploitation, digital predators, and how money flows from the weak to the powerful.

Jodio’s philosophy evolves in JOJOLands Chapter 33

Now, the response to this event by Jodio comes off as a little extreme. He not only wants the money that has been scammed back, but he also wants to ensure that the culprit is left with nothing. In Chapter 33, he continues to add that money flows by the strong preying on the weak, and if they are going to move up in the world, they must become stronger than the predators.

That is when he takes his phone out to reach out to someone he claims to be an ally. And the final twist we get is that the ally he is talking about is none other than Rohan Kishibe. We are shown his stand Heaveans Door, and this hint is more than enough for long-term fans to be excited to see a beloved character who was first introduced in Diamond is Unbreakable will now be playing an active role in this part too.

Final thoughts

In conclusion, Act 2 feels sharper and more socially focused. From missile manufacturing to digital fraud, Araki seems fascinated with modern systems of power. And for the first time in JOJOLands, the fight feels personal. And with Rohan back in the mix? This is shaping up to be one of the boldest arcs in JOJOLands so far.
