Haikyu the Movie: VS The Little Giant takes viewers back to the game with one awesome picture of Hinata and Hoshiumi staring at each other, mounting at least a brave front. The new concept pictures primarily focus on people closely watching the two rivals from a distance.

Haikyu the Movie: VS The Little Giant will revolve around the two characters sharing the nickname Little Giant, with one of them being the original holder of that title while the other is on a mission to claim the title.

Not long after the Japanese counterpart was released, its English version was released as well, indicating the extent to which Haikyu The Movie: VS The Little Giant intends to go global, thus rivaling its predecessor, which has already made a name for itself on the international level.

The artwork was released during the third Haikyu!! RECEPTION event that streamed on TOHO Animation's YouTube channel for Haikyu!! Day on August 19. Ayumu Murase, the voice of Hinata, and Kaito Ishikawa, the voice of Kageyama, participated in the broadcast with editor Ritsuki Azuma as the host.

The timing coincided with a packed schedule of announcements. The trailer and visuals of the side special HAIKYU!! Where Monsters Go, based on Fukurodani vs. Mujinazaka, were announced at the same time as the film was disclosed.

HAIKYU!! Where Monsters Go is an unbelievable film. It has been scheduled for release along with Haikyu the Movie: VS The Little Giant. Both films cover the matches of the manga's Tokyo Nationals arc that did not receive any anime adaptation.

On the same day, a new music video was released for "PHOENIX" performed by BURNOUT SYNDROMES. "PHOENIX" also served as the opening theme for the show's fourth TV season, and its return confirms Haikyu the Movie's promotional tie with the show.

Production Background and Timeline

Production I.G. is responsible for creating Haikyu the Movie: VS The Little Giant, which is also directed and scripted by Susumu Mitsunaka – the same person responsible for the first movie in the series. The plot follows Karasuno’s quarterfinal against Kamomedai, in which Hinata and Hoshiumi meet for the second time.

There is one interesting observation made by fans: the word “Final” was excluded from the title “Haikyu the Movie: VS The Little Giant.” This may confirm that the franchise is not over with this installment, nor that it ends with it, since the premiere is expected in April 2027.

Haruichi Furudate created the original manga, serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from 2012 to 2020. The first film, HAIKYU!! The Dumpster Battle, began streaming on Netflix and Crunchyroll in October 2024, setting the stage for everything building toward this second chapter.
