Netflix used its Annecy presentation to drop the debut teaser for The One Piece. This is the first time anyone has seen any part of WIT Studios' adaptation of Oda's manga, and it is approximately a minute long, with scenes showing parts of Luffy's journey, which include the last speech made by Gol D. Roger pre-execution.
So what does the footage actually show? The teaser for The One Piece confirms a sharper visual style, a returning voice cast member, and a clear starting point for the story. Below is a full breakdown of what stood out.
A New Look for a Familiar Beginning

The teaser starts with East Blue, the beginning of Luffy’s story. You can tell that it had good-quality animations compared to the TV series. WIT studio has done other shows like the first few seasons of Attack on Titan, Vinland Saga, and Spy x Family. You can also see the WIT touch with good-looking, weighty movements in comparison with the long-running TV series, along with a different feel in lighting to the same scenes.
The visual reimagination is why you should check out The One Piece. Since this is a project without a weekly broadcast schedule, the animation team can put more focus on detailed work, which is apparent from the trailer in just one minute of footage.
Luffy's desire for piracy was sparked by Roger's famous last words. Therefore, the teaser includes this moment at the start of the film to establish the beginning of the story as well as the importance of tone to this project. The footage also shows these words at a slower rate, which allows them to have time to develop.
Confirmed Scope and Release Window

With the announcement that The One Piece will start in February 2027, along with the teaser trailer, we know that there will be seven episodes in the first season, covering approximately 50 chapters of the manga in about 300 minutes of runtime. The series will finish its run at Baratie, where Luffy meets Sanji, so the first season will only cover the East Blue Saga of the overall story.
Unlike Toei's anime series, where there were many distractions from the manga as they adapted it weekly, this series will have fewer problems adapting, as all 50 chapters will be adapted and finished first.
Director and Staff of The One Piece

The teaser is paired with production notes that confirm the creative team behind The One Piece:

The One Piece teaser not only provides a date for the show's launch, but also demonstrates that the show is being produced with an emphasis on detail and pacing, as opposed to just quantity. As Toei Animation's original animated series has fallen to 26 episodes annually, this will launch at a time when the franchise requires a new presence to continue its success.
As Oda has confirmed the manga is now in its final span, this adaptation carries even greater significance for Oda's fan base. The One Piece represents a fresh, updated approach for new and previous readers to enjoy the story through a completely different perspective.
