In BAKI-DOU, the legendary samurai fighter returns to life in Japan's underground fighting arena, facing a bunch of fighters who have never fought with real blades before. February 26, 2026, will be the digital premiere of this franchise for Netflix, making it one of their most important and expensive anime projects, which they hope will connect the historical character in Baki with modern fighters
The series answers a question that martial arts enthusiasts have been arguing about for centuries: what happens when the ultimate swordsman fights against the strongest bare-handed fighters in the world? BAKI-DOU answers this question through the brutal animation of TMS Entertainment, as the legendary blade techniques of Miyamoto Musashi, whose DNA has been harvested and reanimated beneath Tokyo Skytree, face off against underground champs.

The story crosses over from the end of Baki's history with his father. The world of the underground fighters is restless now that the generational struggle is over. They need new battles - and they find them when a secret scientific project has brought Musashi back to life.
Scientists beneath Tokyo Skytree used advanced cloning to produce an exact copy of a historic warrior! He is able to use the skills that made him a legend in Japan during the time of the samurai, with incredible accuracy in how he wields his sword, with each precision strike executed to kill, not to score any points.
How BAKI-DOU changes the fighting formula

The previous series of 'Baki' was all about hand-to-hand fighting from different martial arts. BAKI-DOU has mixed things up, and now every fighter will face their opponent who is using a lethal weapon, so they will have to rethink their strategies.
The manga itself was published in Weekly Shoten Champion from 2014 to 2018 by the author, Keisuke Itagaki. The anime version is being produced by Toshiki Hirano as Director and Tatsuhiko Urahata as Series Composer. The Characters are designed by Shingo Ishikawa, and the music is provided by Kenji Fujisawa from TEAM-MAX
Star-studded voice talent

The English dub brings together an impressive roster of voice actors. Troy Baker, SungWon Cho, and WWE’s The Miz lead the voice cast. Matt Mercer is on board, as are Nolan Hansen and internet star Charles White, aka Cr1tikal. Last but not least is Lena Lemon.
Japanese voice actors return from the earlier Baki series. Nobunaga Shimazaki and Akio Ootsuka reprise their previous characters, keeping a similar storyline for longtime comic book fans of this franchise. Their voice performance helps give the story that is fantastical an emotional reality.
Animation studio credentials
They have plenty of experience; look at all those franchises that TMS has done over the years. They can really take care of your animation through all these big action scenes in this TMS production, too.
Plus, TMS is going to be able to use this partnership with Netflix to distribute BAKI-DOU around the world, as well as provide Netflix with content from a successful animation studio. If BAKI-DOU does well, we could see a lot more working together in the future!
Just days left until the February 26 debuts, we are counting down the days till Miyamoto Musashi’s sword meets today’s fighting styles. The combination of history’s greatest fighter and today’s strongest fighters should provide some of the best fight scenes we’ve ever seen in the franchise.
