Shirow Masamune, creator of Manga, spoke about what this new production means to him. This would be the fourth version that he has seen for this series (in total) by Mamoru Oshii, Kenji Kamiyama, and Kazuchika Kise.

Out of respect to the entire Ghost in the Shell anime (including original adaptations), he sees this new production as possibly the start of Generation 2 of the IP, with an emphasis on providing a visually stimulating experience, even though the script comes from an older source of material.

Annecy as a Global Launchpad

The Annecy International Animation Festival has been a launching pad for many important animation projects that have had a global impact. This includes the work done by Science SARU, who have previously achieved a lot of success on the international festival circuit.

The Ghost in the Shell anime will be making its world debut at the Annecy Festival in 2026, and with this decision, they are sending a clear message that they want this series to be viewed as a title of global significance right from the very beginning.

Beginning in July 2026, viewers in Japan will have access to this series shortly after it debuts on the international stage.
