According to a press release Crunchyroll shared with us, Sekiro: No Defeat now has a confirmed path to streaming outside Japan. The FromSoftware adaptation has been showing in theaters back home, while the rest of the world has been waiting for updates.

Crunchyroll reveals that Sekiro: No Defeat will hit their platform in January 2027. The news is that it won't be released as one film, but instead it will come as a series of eight episodes released weekly.

A limited three-week run was planned for Sekiro: No Defeat, but audience demand caused the movie to be shown longer than intended. The movie was first featured in the Midnight Specials section of the Annecy festival before it hit Japan, and it held its North American debut at the Fantasia festival.

Producer Tetsushi Suzuki communicated the news via the official website. He explained that Sekiro: No Defeat was initially conceived as an eight-part TV series. However, as production went on, the crew wanted audiences to see visuals and hear sound on a big screen, which is why they produced an edited version.

He also pointed out that the audience needed to be informed that the movie was an edited version and that the TV series existed.

Where fans can watch

Crunchyroll holds exclusive streaming rights worldwide. Japan, China, Korea, Russia, and Belarus are excluded, so viewers in those regions will need another route. The series is fully hand-drawn and comes from Kadokawa, Qzil.la and ARCH.

The plot follows the game's Sengoku era in Japan, when the country is divided into feuding nations that are at constant war. Ashina is the focus of the action, as it is associated with sacred lands and ancient enigma.

Twenty years before, Sword Saint Isshin Ashina came into power through violent means. Now the Interior Ministry is threatening Ashina from the inside, which causes Isshin's grandson Genichiro to resort to forbidden practices to save the province.

Hope rests with a kidnapped boy known as the Divine Heir. A loyal shinobi named Sekiro guards him in silence. It follows this lord and his retainer as they try to steady a nation on the edge.

Crunchyroll has not shared a first-episode date or time yet. Until it does, January 2027 is the only window confirmed for the series.
