Fans who have been eagerly waiting to watch STEEL BALL RUN JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Episode 3 feel like this installment was well worth the wait. This week's installment ensured that the story will take place in a much darker territory than we have seen so far since the anime started. Now the normal open road competition has evolved to become a more nighttime survival battle for the core characters, which is set in the desert of Arizona.

The episode is titled 'The Desert-Born Outlaws,' and in this installment we are introduced to the Boom Boom Family. They are an eccentric group of people and have Stand powers. Interestingly, the family ended up framing Johnny Joestar for murder. That is when we, as viewers, get to know that the Steel Ball Run is more than just horses and endurance.

Now, it is clear that every racer has the potential to become an enemy, and the isolated desert area has given both Johnny and Gyro very little time and space to recover from what happened to them. The STEEL BALL RUN JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Episode 3 starts off on a quieter note as the duo is making camp after finishing the first day of the second stage.

Johnny has an interesting character development moment as he manages to use the Spin on a champagne cork. This particular moment is important because it shows that he is starting to understand Gyro's technique, which leads to this payoff. However, Johnny is very curious about his newfound friend and goes through his stuff to uncover some documents.

These documents then revealed Gyro's mysterious background, which involved a young boy who had been given a death sentence by an officer who is named Zeppeli. In STEEL BALL RUN JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Episode 3, Gyro ends up taking his belongings back and does not give a major explanation about his past.

The night ends for Johnny and Gyro when Andre Boom Boom makes his appearance and claims that he was bitten by a venomous lizard. The way he dealt with his injury made the duo suspicious about this new character, and they were right. It is soon revealed in STEEL BALL RUN JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Episode 3, that Andre is part of the Boom Boom family.

He is with his father, Benjamin, and his brother L.A., and the trio have a shared Stand ability. They can manipulate iron and magnetism and use it to turn metal within a person's body. Gyro is the one to quickly understand that he is in trouble when iron starts to emerge from his legs. Even Johnny is not safe because his gun is pulled apart and goes into Gyro's body.

This particular sequence is a little brutal to watch but at the same time also shows us an entertaining Stand battle. Because raw strength in this scenario is not important, one needs to just figure out how an ability works. Even the Boom Boom family in the episode gives us some strange moments with their bizarre family dynamic, combined with their ruthless methods. Overall, everything about them makes them memorable antagonists rather than generic obstacles.

The situation becomes even more complicated in STEEL BALL RUN JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Episode 3 when Benjamin uses his ability to alter his appearance and disguise himself as Johnny. He then leaves evidence designed to convince Mountain Tim that Johnny is responsible for the murders occurring along the race route.

Mountain Tim is introduced as a cowboy and bounty hunter investigating the killings. His own unusual ability allows him to separate parts of his body and move them along his rope, producing one of the episode's most unexpected reveals. The encounter creates a strong cliffhanger because Mountain Tim is not deliberately targeting an innocent man. He genuinely believes Johnny is the murderer.

Final thoughts

In conclusion, with Johnny now being mistaken for a murderer and Mountain Tim closing in, the next stage of the race promises even more trouble. STEEL BALL RUN JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Episode 3 makes it clear that surviving the Steel Ball Run may require much more than simply reaching the finish line first.
