Kagurabachi portrays tragedy through a blind sword fighter who cuts out his own eyes so that he can escape the memories of war. Seiichi Samura is a living testament to guilt and has fought as a warrior who believed death is the only way to redeem himself. The end of Chapter 111 accounts for the passing of one of manga's most heartbreaking characters.

In Kagurabachi, Seiichi Samura is one of the six Enchanted Blade bearers who fought in the Seitei War, wielding Tobimune, a sword given to him by Kunishige Rokuhira. As a blind sword fighter fighting against the anger of his guilt because of the things that happened during the war, Seiichi becomes an important player in the course of the series.

Samura is a tormented man with a dark past. Before the Seitei War, he made himself blind so he would not be tempted by desire and the horror of watching how he killed. He became blind in an attempt to make himself extra sensory, so he created the Blind Monk to help him escape.

Samura fought with three other blade bearers in the Seitei War 18 years prior. There were a lot of gruesome things, like Akemura Soga, one of the other blade bearers, killing over two hundred thousand people on Shokoku Island. Because they were blade bearers and had no choice but to do what Soga ordered, they couldn't stop his killings, so the six of them made up a lie to hide the fact that he had killed people. This secret has weighed heavily on Samura for almost twenty years.

Abilities and Combat Prowess of Samura in Kagurabachi

Samura is an amazing sword fighter with a very popular reputation for having the fastest ability with a sword that Kunishige has ever experienced. His lack of sight has actually increased his ability to fight. He can find and combat his opponent by relying on his fighting style of using echolocation through the sound of quickly drawing his sword out of the sheath and fighting by his heightened sense of smell, touch, and perception.

Tobimune grants him devastating abilities in Kagurabachi. The Crow technique allows instant teleportation to any of the blade's summoned feathers. Owl extends his senses across entire cities or even nationwide. Most remarkable is Suzaku, which generates healing flames. Samura advanced this ability to resurrect the dead, though at tremendous personal cost.

Suzaku's black flames, when he was burning off his life force to use them, can negate the Magatsumi power of death. This shows how strong he is and how much he is willing to sacrifice to be true to his beliefs.

Samura made a deal with Yura, which shocked readers of Kagurabachi because this deal happened three years prior to the current timeline. Yura approached Samura and offered him information about the Hishaku and Enchanted Blades in exchange for his killing the remaining Sword Bearers.

Samura hated who he was and who he hung out with, and thought that all of the bearers and himself deserved to die for their crimes, which is why he made this deal with the Hishaku. However, his true intention was not to kill any of the other bearers but only to kill Soga so that Maledictions would not happen again. He also embedded the flames of Suzaku's resurrection in the bearers when attacked, which kept them alive while at the same time ending the contracts on the Bearers' Blades.

Samura expressed his thoughts when he confronted Yoji Uruha by saying that the Sword Bearers as a whole were worse than the Hishaku because they had caused so many innocent lives to perish in the foolish protection of the false heroes.

Redemption and Final Stand

Chihiro’s will and Iori’s recovered memory changed Samura’s course. Instead of engaging in destructive behavior and abandoning his future, he fights for it with others. He used Suzaku to heal his eye wounds, indicating a commitment to looking forward instead of living in the past.

Samura’s final redemption came during his last battle with Soga in Kagurabachi Chapter 111. Samura used his black flames against Magatsumi’s ability to drain the life out of things, giving the opportunity for Chihiro to escape. Although Soga was more powerful than before, Samura could not match Soga’s incredible strength and was killed by Soga, who cut him in half.

In the end, he acknowledged that war ruined their lives. Soga turned into a ruthless beast, and Samura couldn't bear the thought of facing his daughter. But Chihiro liberating him from that curse allowed Samura to die with the faith that Soga would find the same freedom.

The death of Samura changed the entire landscape of Kagurabachi; with the bearer of Tobimune being dead, four Enchanted Blades remain free from enemy hands. Currently, Soga possesses Magatsumi and plans to assimilate Yura's consciousness into himself so that both Hishaku and Kamunabi become part of a dictatorship.
