5 ways Katie is destined to fail with Logan on The Bold and The Beautiful (and 5 reasons it might just succeed)

The term “Logan” is the pivot for a huge feud on The Bold and the Beautiful after Katie Logan-Spencer (Heather Tom) planned to start an independent fashion company rivalling Forrester Creations. Gifted by her reunited husband, Bill Spencer (Don Diamont), Katie’s new business received word from Eric that he would design for them. However, she has no experience in building a fashion house and lacks guidance. Eric’s sudden decision to back out as lead designer puts “Logan” in a tricky situation, with its survival in doubt.

The Bold and the Beautiful: 5 causes leading to Logan’s crash

1) Uncertain legal foundation involving the lead designer

As fans of The Bold and the Beautiful know, Eric Forrester (John McCook) stepped in to offer his services as help to a distraught Katie after Brooke trashed her use of the name Logan for her new company. With no design team or business plan in place, Katie grabbed at Eric’s generous offer. At the same time, Eric secretly designed for Katie to spite his son for forcing his retirement on him.

Since the Spencers and Eric did not have a signed contract, the legality of their agreement is shaky. “Logan” seemingly has no claim on Eric’s designs, and they cannot sue him if Eric decides to walk away from his promise. This may create a work backlog that Katie may be unable to overcome.

2) Eric’s health and loyal stance

The whole situation around Eric stems from the senior Forrester’s health issues. Fearing another decline in his health, his son, Ridge (Thorsten Kaye), forcedhim to retire. Holding a grudge, Eric offered to secretly design for Katie’s new fashion house. However, when his son apologized and called him back, Eric decided to return to his company.

Katie and Bill would undoubtedly be blamed for pushing the elderly designer too far. On the other hand, Eric’s loyalties lie with his own company, and he will likely go back. As such, his designs, if displayed by “Logan”, may bring recognition to Forrester Creations rather than to Katie’s new business.

3) Bill’s interference and business model

One of the primary reasons for “Logan’s” failure will likely be Katie’s move to let Bill have the final say in her new business. While Bill is the main financier, he does not understand the fashion industry. As such, his final approval of Eric’s designs makes no sense.

Moreover, Bill is a cutthroat businessman and wants to speed up mass production in Katie’s fashion house. However, he does not understand the significance of quality and finesse in the world of fashion. Bill is ready to compromise on quality, which irked Eric. Also, Katie does not have a design team, including patternmakers, seamsters, and drapers. With no infrastructure, the business is bound to fold.

4) Professional ethics and trademark battles

As The Bold and the Beautiful fans witnessed when Katie revealed her intention of calling her company “Logan”, Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) pointed out how FC has owned the name in their various lines previously. While Carter had let the license expire, the fashion world would likely continue to connect Logan with Forrester Creations.

With Logan Designs previously registered under the Forrester umbrella, the company may struggle to have an independent identity. Moreover, ethics may be questioned for the same reason, with customers wondering whether Katie is using FC’s reflected glory for her own launch. Whether COO Carter Walton (Lawrence Saint-Victor) decides to sue Katie for a conflict of interest remains to be seen.

5) Internal sabotage and lack of expertise

From the start of Katie’s fashion house, Brooke seemed discomfited. To add to her uneasiness, Katie named her company “Logan”, a name Brooke used as her own identity for years. This brought out a feud between the sisters. On the other hand, Ridge was taken aback to find Eric designing for Katie’s company. This escalates the feud, suggesting internal sabotage for “Logan”.

Moreover, Katie lacks the basic expertise to build a fashion company. She is good at PR for a fashion house, but running a company is a different ballgame. Elsewhere, she cannot depend on Bill totally, as he does not understand fashion. This leaves Katie trapped.

5 ways Logan may thrive on The Bold and the Beautiful

1) Logan’s brand with legitimate ownership

The viewers of The Bold and the Beautiful may remember that, after Carter discovered that FC’s registration license for “Logan” had expired, Bill asked Liam to apply for its registration. Before Carter could re-register the name, the Spencer family grabbed its registration. Katie and Bill hold the license to use the name officially.

With its prior association with FC, a fashion house of repute, customers may be easily drawn to Katie’s products without any legal backlog spoiling the prospects. The rest lies in Katie’s hands, who is a PR expert and will know how to create the brand magic.

2) Bill’s resources and backing

Bill Spencer is a billionaire and the owner of Spencer Publications. As such, financing his wife’s company will come easy to the businessman. Besides a lot of money that Bill can use to fund “Logan”, he may use his aggressive business tactics and network to help grow the company and build its reputation.

Moreover, Bill has a hands-on approach about Katie’s company. While that may seem over bearing at times, it may help Katie bring in more industry talent and advice. Also, besides acquiring rights to the “Logan” brand, Bill may also help Katie get her hands on Eric’s designs legally.

3) Eric’s commitment and reputation

So far, The Bold and the Beautiful storyline has seen the sisters, Brooke and Katie, pitted against each other supported by their spouses. While Eric promised his help to Katie, to teach his son a lesson, he eventually missed his company. As he told RJ, he wants to end his career at FC. This hints at his intention to re-join FC officially.

This has also left Brooke and Ridge hoping to use Eric’s designs in their next collection while Katie and Bill want them for their launch. However, Eric’s reputation also connects to the credibility of his word. Since he gave his word to Katie, he may stick to his commitment against what his son might be thinking. Moreover, Bill possibly paid Eric for his designs and may own them legally even if no contract was signed.

4) Recruitment of new talents

As fans of The Bold and the Beautiful are already aware, Katie has no proper design team. Even if she has Eric’s designs, she needs a formal team to see her launch line through. As such, the Spencers need to look into employing new talent at the earliest. While Katie considered appointing Deke in the past, he may be a good bet for them.

“Logan” may also be able to acquire other undervalued designers from FC. With problems between Will and Electra heating up, if the younger Spencer scion wants to leave FC, he may be an asset to Katie’s company. Moreover, with Thomas helming the Hope for the Future line, if Hope decides to walk away and join her aunt, she may be a welcome addition.

5) PR expertise and underdog’s power move

Here comes Katie’s superpower. Katie has been handling FC’s PR for a long time. She is an expert in creating hypes and dousing fires. As such, she will likely be able to promote her new company. With decades of experience in brand building, she will position the perfect narrative for “Logan”.

Moreover, Katie is finally free of Brooke’s shadow, something that Bill urged her to go for. Charged by this desire, she may not take kindly to Ridge and Brooke’s power play over her, such as trying to offer Katie’s job back at FC. Katie may not give up her new identity, free from the Forresters, leading to power moves on the show.
