The Bold and the Beautiful alum Maitland Ward has recreated herself since exiting her role as heroine Jessica Forrester in the 1990s. Now, the actress is sharing her experiences about being a teen performer during a very different time in Hollywood Demons.

The Bold and the Beautiful, Hollywood Demons

Ward, who segued from young performer to adult star, is the subject of an interview in Hollywood Demons, which airs on Investigation Discovery and streams on HBO Max. The program takes a look behind the glamorous world of Hollywood, revealing what truly happens behind the scenes!

"[This is about] the story of how life was for young people in Hollywood back in the 1980s, 1990s, and early 2000s," Ward tells Soap Central in this exclusive interview, Hollywood Demons "examines that time period and how damaging it was. It was when the studios called all the shots. So much was going on behind-the-scenes about which the audience was not aware."

Ward talked to Hollywood Demons about her time on both B&B and on Boy Meets World. She joined the ABC sitcom's cast in season six when the characters were in college. Her character, Rachel, was roommates with Eric (Will Friedle) and Jack (Matthew Lawrence).

Ward feels fortunate that she began her career as a 16-year-old on B&B, where she was thrust into an adult world and acted out adult storylines. Jessica had an older boyfriend (Dylan, played by Dylan Neal), who was charged with statutory rape after Jessica and Dylan had sex. Jessica was also raped and held against her will by Sly Donovan (Brent Jasmer). Jessica nearly lost her life in a fire at the Bikini Bar after Sly burned the establishment down to cover up his crimes.

Bold and Beautiful friendships

"I have to say that compared to other places, The Bold and the Beautiful was extraordinarily professional," Ward shares. "I had the best tutor, and everybody was very protective of me. There are still people from that show that I consider family -- Brent, who is one of my best friends to this day, and also, Jeff Trachta [ex-Thorne], Bobbie [ex-Macy], Ronn [Moss, ex-Ridge], and Ian [Buchanan, ex-James]."

Ward found joining Boy Meets World after she exited daytime to have stories not unlike those found on soaps. Rachel was in a triangle with Jack and Eric. "It was like a Three's Company situation, where I was the roommate, and it was supposed to be platonic until Rachel started going with one of them, and the other was jealous," Ward says.

Ward, however, found that some of the sitcom stories got racy, like when a few of the male characters blew up private, naked photos of Rachel and distributed them! In other episodes, Rachel choked on a hot dog and was given what appeared to be a suggestive Heimlich maneuver. Also, there was a food fight in which Rachel rubbed her feet over a guy's face with marinara sauce.

"I didn't conceptualize it [at the time], but looking back, especially when I was writing my book [My Escape from Hollywood: Unapologetic, Unfiltered, and Unashamed], I thought, 'These were fetish situations,'" Ward offers.

The actress credits social media as a turning point in that it allowed lines of communication to open up and conversations to start happening. Ward hopes that Hollywood Demons allows viewers to get a view into what working on shows was like for young actors.

"It's an examination that's going to help Hollywood in the future," she predicts. "We're picking up a rock, and all the bugs are coming out. We're starting from a fresh place. I think my story is going to be a positive one. I feel so much happier and empowered now."

B&B's Jessica hasn't been referenced that often since she went off to study at Oxford following her split from Dylan. Jessica may still not know about her beau's affair with her mother, Maggie (Barbara Crampton).

However, Jessica has a half-sister, Ivy (Ashleigh Brewer), and niece, Electra (Laneya Grace), on the show. Ward muses that it might be fun to revisit Jessica, who could come to Los Angeles for a visit.

"I’d love to drop in with my red hair and see everyone," she says with a smile. "I think that would be great fun!"

Hollywood Demons airs on Investigation Discovery and streams on HBO Max on Monday, April 27 at 9 p.m. ET.
