Steffy's Body, Steffy's Choice: The Bold and the Beautiful Two Scoops For the Week of September 14th

Did Carter Walton just do what we think he did to end the week on The Bold and the Beautiful? Did he really just essentially force Steffy to hand over her baby to him against her will by putting her on the spot in the worst way imaginable? Yes, he really did that. Steffy can't believe it and neither can the audience. And we're not sure that Carter can come back from this one.

Did Carter Walton really congratulate Steffy when she told him she was pregnant, as if she was just trying to share good news about her growing family? Did he really not see that she looked like she was about to hurl and it wasn't due to morning sickness?

Carter could not understand how Steffy was so sure that he was the lucky dad, but B&B decided to get real with this one. Steffy and Finn are busy career people. Finn has been working a lot of double shifts lately. They just weren't able to...connect...so to speak, so yeah, Carter, it's you. If Steffy knows she had only been with you since her last period, then trust Steffy on this one.

Spit it Out, Steffy

How utterly dumb can Finn even be? This man really thinks his wife has been a sobbing mess for weeks (in soap opera time? We think?) because she saw Sheila on the beach in Monaco. He really believes that is what this is all about. Of course he does, because he is Finn and his imagination only goes so far.

But we really had to go through two episodes of Steffy trying to tell Finn about her drunken night with Carter. We knew she wouldn't be able to do it, but did we have to waste two episodes watching her not do what we knew she wouldn't do? What a way to advance a story.

Then, in comes Carter through the sliding glass doors as if he owns the place. Steffy should have immediately kicked him out just for that. The look of realization on her face when it hit her what Carter was proposing was akin to the taste in our mouths.

Carter wants Steffy to just hand over her baby. She can just pretend their night on Eric's office couch was an in-office medical procedure rather than a drunken evening of lust and adultery that never should have happened. The idea is as disgusting to us as it is to Steffy, but it's the ideal solution for poor, pathetic Carter, a man who has not made a wise decision in years.

Tough Luck, Steffy

Well, Carter doesn't care that Steffy was horrified at the thought of just giving him her baby. Carter doesn't even care that Daphne didn't want her friend to have to sacrifice her body for nine months for them. Carter doesn't care about anything but what Ridge thinks of him because we are not even sure where this great love for Daphne comes from after his great love for Hope last year.

Carter was not about to take no for an answer. It didn't matter to him that Steffy was adamant that all she wanted was honesty. It didn't matter to Carter that Steffy told him flat out that she would make the decision about the child she would carry in her body for nine months and not him. She even gave surrogates their props, calling them the angels they are. But she had the self-awareness to admit that was not her, as it's not many women. And Carter didn't care.

Carter decided he had a right to decide what happened to Steffy's body and to Steffy's baby. Without her consent and without her permission, he told Daphne that Steffy had said yes; she would be their surrogate. And he did this in front of Steffy, who then won't be able to say no on Monday.

Of course, Steffy is able to say no and tell the truth because she has agency, but she won't be written to have agency. Not wanting to hurt her best friend or hurt her husband, she will go along with Carter's insanity, so we have to watch her weep and sob for the next nine months...or maybe five if this is a SORAS'd pregnancy.

Let's Get Soapy

Yes, for the next five to nine months, all we will hear is how altruistic and self-sacrificing Steffy is, while Steffy will know the truth. But at least it will be soapy. We may be outraged and we may want to throw things at our screens (mainly to aim at Carter), but we're talking, we're invested, and we're in for one wild ride.

And that's the joy of it all. This is a soapy mess that will have ramifications for years to come and it's just the way we like it. So, buckle up, Bold fans, because this is going to be a long pregnancy with one weepy mom and one absolutely insane dad. And we can't wait. (And maybe maintenance guy knocking on Eric's office door saw more than we thought...)
