The Bold and the Beautiful Recap, May 19: Brooke’s surrender sends Hope into a tailspin

What happened on The Bold and the Beautiful

Steffy was thrilled to work alongside her father, and he picked the worst possible moment to drop the bombshell that Brooke wanted the job. Taylor wasn't entirely shocked that Ridge was willing to put Brooke ahead of his own daughter. However, Steffy was willing to let it go this one time because Ridge took her side for once.

Being put in the position she was in came completely out of nowhere. Steffy was thriving in the role, so it was audacious for Brooke to make her husband choose between his wife and daughter. Shockingly enough, it was Brooke who ultimately made things go far smoother than they seemed like they were going to.

Taylor was surprised that Brooke was willing to give Steffy her props, and Steffy was shocked as well by how much it mattered to her. Despite their decades of differences, getting praise from Brooke was more important than she ever could've imagined.

Brooke and Ridge celebrated their special night of lovemaking, and she assured him that she wasn't upset with his choice. Sadly, R.J. was subjected to his parents' moment of intimacy, and his eyes nearly burned out of his skull. Brooke needed to take off to speak with Hope about Ridge's decision, and as she left, Zende and Eric entered the CEO's office.

Eric was thrilled to have his family working side by side, eager to take Forrester into the next generation of fashion. Zende missed HFTF, but Eric complimented the work he was doing on the couture line. Still, Zende wasn't ready to fully let go of the hard work he'd put into Hope's line, and he was ready to be vocal about it.

Despite Ridge and Eric insisting that HFTF was going to make its return at some point, Zende asked for more concrete answers. Ridge cut off the conversation and said it would happen because he promised it to Brooke. Since Ridge did essentially anything that Brooke told him to do, it felt like a positive sign.

Hope received a text from her mother that she'd be providing an update as soon as possible, and she had no idea how disappointing the news was going to be. Brooke arrived as quickly as possible, bracing herself to tell her daughter that things did not go according to plan.

Hope took control of the conversation, giving Brooke time to figure out how to delicately deliver the bad news to her daughter. Brooke admitted that she did her best to secure the co-CEO spot, but it wasn't enough to sway Ridge. Steffy was going to remain in her current position, which meant that Hope's line would likely remain shelved indefinitely.

Hope's world started to spin as Brooke delivered the update. Brooke reminded Hope that she was putting Ridge in an impossible decision, so she was willing to back down. It was too large of a sacrifice to put upon him, and no matter how much she wanted to help Hope, she wasn't going to ruin Ridge and Steffy's relationship.

Hope took it as a complete personal attack and betrayal that Brooke "gave up" on her. Her mother did her best to help her, at least in her mind, but Hope felt like it was a lost cause. Hope informed Brooke that there was too much at stake, and there was no chance of Steffy changing course after being made to feel valued.

This felt like it might be the end for Hope at Forrester. There was too much working against her, and she was not willing to put herself through that kind of mental anguish any longer. Hope looked her mother in the eyes and accused her of letting her down when she needed her the most.

Katie was thrilled at the success of Logan, but there was no update about who might design her next collection. Liam wanted Hope to join them at Logan, but until he knew what Ridge's decision was about Brooke and the co-CEO spot, her defection remained in limbo.

Bill and Katie weren't convinced that Ridge would force Steffy out of the top spot. If that was the case, there was a good chance that Hope would still be willing to jump ship. However, for now, everything was up in the air. Liam wasn't sure what direction things were going to go in, but all he wanted was for his wife to be treated fairly.
