The Bold and the Beautiful: Why the Ridge vs. Bill pepper-grinding competition was everything we needed

Tuesday's episode of The Bold and the Beautiful provided us with some much-needed humor when Ridge and Bill engaged in a pepper-grinding contest during their dinner with Brooke and Katie. We need this kind of humor in the midst of all the serious storylines. Let's take a closer look at these macho men in action!

Ridge vs. Bill on The Bold and the Beautiful

It's amazing how Bill (Don Diamont) manages to annoy Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) without even saying a word. When the two men had dinner with Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) and Katie (Heather Tom) at Ridge and Brooke's house, Bill perked up when he heard that they were having pepper steak. "The more pepper, the better," he said. He proceeded to douse his steak with enough pepper to make most people cough up a storm. Brooke and Katie watched him with amazement, while Ridge looked on with annoyance.

Since he and Bill can't stand each other, Ridge decided that he had to one-up Bill -- or at least try to. So, after Bill was done twisting and twisting the pepper grinder, Ridge took it and grinded away as well. Bill simply looked on in amusement. It was all fun and games to him, while Ridge was dead-serious about beating him. These two are just too funny!

This may have been a silly moment, but we need moments like this one to give us a breather from all the drama and angst in the B&B storylines -- especially after all the Luna (Lisa Yamada) craziness. Plus, we don't get to see Ridge and Bill sit down and break bread together very often. Sometimes, a little thing like grinding pepper atop steaks can become the highlight of an episode.

Men are so competitive!

It was funny how Brooke and Katie both sat there, acting mature, while their husbands acted silly. Katie got a kick out of it as she commented that men are so competitive about every little thing. Brooke agreed and added, "Especially these two." Yep, these women have been there. They know that when you bring Bill and Ridge together, you need to be prepared for anything -- because anything can happen.

Ridge and Bill have physically assaulted each other countless times throughout the years on The Bold and the Beautiful. Heck, Ridge even pushed Bill out of a second-floor window once! Maybe they should get together and start their own fight club, where all the L.A. men can go to release stress and tension from their long work days.

But in the meantime, it would be entertaining to see more of those cute dinner-table moments, because it was a light-hearted way for these two rivals to compete. No black eyes or bruises!

It was a nice break from the drama of Eric's storyline

The pepper-grinding contest came at the right time. We needed a bit of comedic relief to break up the somewhat depressing storyline about Eric (John McCook) feeling unappreciated and unwanted after Ridge threw him a retirement party that he didn't ask for.

Then, there's all the danger that may be looming over Taylor (Rebecca Budig) and Deacon (Sean Kanan) once Sheila (Kimberlin Brown) finds out about their affair. Will she revert to her former violent self? We've also had the heartbreak of knowing that Dylan (Sydney Bullock) lived in her car. We felt badly watching her eat pizza from a dumpster. We needed a break from all that heavy stuff.

So thank you to the writers of The Bold and the Beautiful! You gave us a good laugh, and all over a little thing like pepper. Keep more scenes like that one coming!
