The Bully Pulpit: The Bold and the Beautiful Two Scoops For the Week of July 20th

The Bold and the Beautiful definitely delivered on soap opera this past week, while Heather Tom compiled her Emmy reel, but that didn't mean we weren't left flabbergasted and even a little disturbed by what we witnessed. There are some clear good guys and bad guys in the mess that started in Eric's office and ended outside his front door, but we are not sure if the audience sees the same set of good and bad guys that the audience does. And that's a problem.

Did Eric Really Say 'Evil'?

The week started calm enough. After nearly 40 years, the Forresters did something a little different for their fashion show and streamed it online only, with just one reporter getting an exclusive with Eric in his office and what an exclusive it was.

As soon as Eric called Katie and Hope evil women for leaving his company and branching out on their own, we knew where the week was going. The most pompous people on television would continue being pompous to epic (and absolutely exasperating) results. However, when Katie and Hope looked at one another in both disgust and confusion when he said that, we thought we'd get a little bit more fight from Katie, but...nope.

The Bikini Bar Brawl

Let's just make one thing clear. Electra started it. Full stop. She could have remained seated with her chic sunglasses and her nose in the stratosphere while wearing her virginal white, but she had to go get the drinks anyone could have brought them. Because Will was near the bar. The attention-seeker wanted attention and boy did she get it.

And Eric? Well, he could have remained seated. He already made a fool of himself earlier in the day. The best bet would have been to have a drink and not say a word. So, Electra and Eric are already instigators here.

And yes, we admit we laughed when Will socked Eric across the eye. While it was not funny to see an 80-year-old man go down, Eric isn't exactly innocent (in ANY of this and is actually the cause), it was funny to see how this brawl got out of hand. And it was also plain to see for any casual observer that Will absolutely did NOT mean to hit Eric. And Will absolutely did try to avoid the whole situation altogether.

Dylan Gets the Man

If Electra started it, then it's Dylan who finished the night her way because she had had it. Just like us, she was sick of watching Will literally sob over this insipid girl who broke up with him last winter for giving a homeless person — Dylan — a roof over her head while she was down on he luck. Electra is just not worth it. And no, she is not precious either.

Electra might just be the most unlikable character on soaps at the moment and B&B just needs to go full vixen with this girl because she is not the damsel this soap wants her to be. Whether it was accidental or not, Electra is your next unhinged villain, so let's just go there already and allow Laneya Grace to let loose.

However, we are not so sure Dylan made the right move. While Will and Dylan have infinitely more chemistry and rooting power than Will and Electra (by far), was Dylan smart to sleep with two men who are hung up on Electra (why?) in about two weeks' time? She had to know what she was doing when she slept with RJ a few weeks ago. And it's clear that Will is still inexplicably pining for this awful girl. So, what's up, Miss Dylan? Are you that cunning and might you find yourself in a 'Who's the Daddy?' situation in a few weeks? If so, let's go... (We doubt this will happen because we can't have nice things.)

Who Are You Calling a Punk and a Degenerate?

Now, a little word about RJ, who went from being the biggest wimp on television to an actual punk and degenerate in one recast. Rather than obsessing over his sister's love life, this RJ is obsessed with being mean to his cousin for no real reason other than that it feels like it, we guess.

RJ assaulted Will a few times and didn't lose his job, but Will lost his the second her did it. We are not defending Will, but Ridge certainly has no right to talk, considering that he had just assaulted Bill the week before. Perhaps Will needs to deal with his violent tendencies, but he's not at all alone.

And then we have what the Forresters and Logan sisters did to Katie, which honestly felt like borderline abuse. Brooke has not made herself many fans during this storyline and may have even lost some along the way, but first a word about Donna.

We thought maybe, just maybe, Donna would have a little bit of sympathy for her sister as she stood there in tears begging for someone to believe her that Will's punch was an accident. But no, Donna had to be just as awful as Brooke. Never mind that Eric came out of this with nothing but a shiner and that Katie was her sister and not her sometimes-husband, Donna just had to go as hard as Brooke.

And Eric? He 100 percent told Katie that he couldn't wait to raise their hands in victory at the end of the runway when his designs debuted for Logan, but he was not about to admit that in front of the rest of his family. Instead, he watched Katie stand there begging and crying and silently hobbled away.

And now for Brooke. This woman is a villain. Full stop. Let's not even pretend she is anything but or ever has been anything but. She doesn't have the ability to feel empathy or compassion for anyone or at least she doesn't know how to show it. Watching her go on and on about destiny is enough to make us yawn and roll our eyes to the sky, but watching her go after her sister was rage-inducing.

Katie starting her own company is akin to their father walking out on them when they were children? Is Brooke out of her mind? (That's a rhetorical question because yes, yes, she is.) The fact that Hope deciding to have her own life and career was enough to send Brooke to a spa. She returned rejuvenated enough to bully and berate her sister, so money well spent, huh Ridge?

As Donna stood there sobbing while Brooke held her and Katie ran out in a puddle of tears, all we could do was wonder who this show wanted us to feel bad for? Were we supposed to sympathize with all three sisters because a corporate war had torn them apart? After the way they treated Katie? It was like watching a living room full of bullies sitting silently in the dark under some delusional impression they were the victims.

What we really need is for Dollar Bill to step in. He will protect his Katie from her horrible sisters. We just hope one day someone is needed to protect them from Katie as we wait for the day she goes scorched earth.
