EJ told Gwen about Chad’s fight with the Hortons and his apparent disappearance. Theo asked EJ for help with a licensing agreement. Theo admitted he was overwhelmed since Tony had disappeared. EJ promised to help Theo until he could locate Tony.

When EJ noted that Chad was not responding to anyone and had missed Thanksgiving, a worried Cat reached out to Rafe. Rafe and Cat searched Chad’s room. Rafe argued that EJ had been the one who had kidnapped his brothers.

Abe was disappointed that Theo had been avoiding him on Thanksgiving. The Price-Carver family caught up on one another’s lives. Theo arrived late. Abe told Theo he was glad he had been mature enough to ask EJ for help at work.

A drunken Xander spent Thanksgiving alone. When Xander ran into Gwen, she cooked him an English breakfast. After opening up about his divorce, Xander asked Gwen what she wanted from him. Gwen stressed that she only wanted to be there for a friend.

Rachel pleaded with Brady not to leave her in Bayview. Brady gave Rachel a baseball from John for her to hold for comfort. When Brady left, he wept as he heard his daughter screaming for him not to leave her behind. Sophia visited Rachel, and she admitted that she was faking her muteness.

Brady told Tate the real reason why Rachel was at Bayview. Tate decided to blow off class to visit Rachel. Tate was surprised to see Sophia in Rachel’s room. Rachel kept Sophia’s secret. Tate visited Sophia after he left Rachel’s room, but Sophia did not speak.

After Tate left, Rachel confirmed for Rachel that Johnny and Chanel were the adoptive parents of her baby. Upset, Sophia lied and told Rachel that she was fine. Sophia and Rachel agreed to watch each other’s backs. Sophia warned Rachel to be careful about what she said in therapy so that they did not extend Rachel’s stay at Bayview.

Belle told Paulina about Rachel. Belle informed Paulina of her intent to handle Rachel’s case through the mental health system rather than the juvenile justice system. Belle told EJ of her plan, and she warned him that he had better go along with it.

Kayla confirmed that Marlena had Lyme disease. Marlena’s treatment improved her condition. Worried about Rachel, Marlena asked Kayla if her grief and illness could have impaired her judgment. Kayla told Marlena that she was certain that Kayla had acted in Rachel’s best interest. When Brady visited, he told Marlena about Bayview. Marlena wanted to call Bayview, but Brady asked Marlena not to be a part of Rachel’s care anymore.

Maggie was suspicious that Sarah avoided talking about how she had eaten pistachios at the pub. Brady apologized to Maggie for what Rachel had done to Sarah, and he told her the full story. Brady hinted at how Marlena’s decision about Rachel had made things worse. Brady wanted to move out, and Maggie invited him to stay at the Kiriakis mansion.

Kate urged Maggie to poach unhappy employees from DiMera, but she refused. Maggie argued that it could push Tony to expose Philip. Maggie warned Kate to “stay in her lane.”

Ari told Roman and Kate about Javi’s engagement. Ari admitted that she could not forgive and accept Leo into the family after how he had treated her dads. Kate suggested to Ari that she pursue a DiMera internship.

Gwen was surprised to hear of Leo and Javi’s engagement. Gwen eavesdropped later as Javi and Leo discussed having a New Year’s Eve wedding officiated by Marlena. Leo visited Marlena and cheered her up. He asked her to officiate his wedding. Marlena agreed. Marlena confessed that she was struggling with the guilt of a mistake she had made. Leo told Marlena that she was a great therapist and friend. Marlena thanked Leo for helping her to stop spiraling.

Chanel decided to hire help at the bakery. Johnny wanted to dip into his trust fund, but Chanel warned Johnny not to do anything that would give EJ leverage. Johnny advised Tate to focus on his other classes to raise his overall average, instead of doing extra credit in film class.

Cat continued to question EJ about Chad’s disappearance. EJ recognized Cat as the woman from Italy who had read to him every day. Cat pretended to have a vague memory of Italy. After Cat left the house, she ran into Jennifer. Cat pleaded with Jennifer not to take Chad’s children, and Jennifer told her to stay out of it.

Steve talked to Alex about the strange fan letter for Stephanie. Alex admitted he was concerned because he had dealt with obsessive fans while he worked on the soap opera. Holly showed Alex and Steve a batch of letters from the same obsessive fan.

The custody hearing started, and Chad did not appear. EJ asked for a continuance, and Jennifer agreed. Thomas was concerned for his father, but Jack assured him that Chad was fine. Privately, Jack told Jennifer that he was concerned about Chad’s disappearance. Jennifer argued that the DiMera family was a danger to their grandchildren, and they needed to remove the kids from the DiMera family altogether.

EJ met up with Cat for dinner. Cat drugged EJ’s drink so that she could search the mansion for clues about Chad’s disappearance. Chad woke up in the crypt, and he told Tony and Kristen about the custody case. Chad was convinced that Jennifer would push forward despite his disappearance and that the judge would grant custody to her. Kristen asked about Rachel, and Chad told her about the pumpkin incident.
