While Days of our Lives is the master of back-from-the-dead plots, sometimes the show needs to give it a rest. It certainly doesn't need to resurrect long-dead characters who died from cancer and that has never been more apparent than on the Monday, June 1, 2026, episode.
Days of our Lives' Lexie needed to stay dead

When rumors started to leak that DAYS would be resurrecting Lexie Carver, all we could ask was why. She wasn't needed for the storyline and she was one of those soap deaths that you expected to stay permanent. After all, we saw her die in Abe's (James Reynolds) arms. And yes, we saw Bo (Peter Reckell) die in Hope's (Kristian Alfonso) arms, but at least the show didn't need a recast to resurrect Bo.
Sometimes, dead characters should remain dead if the original actor doesn't want to return to the role. In this case, that was the decision that DAYS should have made. It hired a wonderful actress to play Lexie, as Nikki Crawford is certainly a spitfire, but the entire scenario just falls flat because the story feels forced.
Abe and Theo (Tyler Joseph Andrews) don't even act like they are happy to be around her and seem like they are just going through the motions. In fact, her return has caused Abe to shed a few unhappy tears and Theo to have a few panic attacks. That does not sound like a happily-ever-after at all.
Not meant to be...

It's also pretty clear this is not going to be a happily-ever-after story. It's hard to become invested in this return when the writing on the wall tells us it's only temporary. With the death of that lab rat, we know Lexie's second death is imminent and all we can do is cringe when we watch her with Abe and Theo.
We're not sure who thought of such a story or why, but Lexie's resurrection is not doing an already struggling soap any favors. With true-to-life stories like Chanel's (Raven Bowens) breast cancer right there to tell, it makes no sense that an other-worldly plot about fake cancer cures is being told to mar it. That's especially true since Chanel's family is the same family now in turmoil due to Lexie's return.
