Days of our Lives dealt with a pair of real-life deaths in 2024 that changed the face of the show forever. First, Bill Hayes passed, necessitating the on-screen death of Doug Williams. Later that year, Drake Hogestyn passed and John Black died one year ago this week. While Marlena marked the anniversary with her children, Doug's widow, Julie, proved that life indeed goes on, despite love and loss.

Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes) was nervous as she prepared to open the front door to greet Foster (Miles Anderson), but knew she had to go on this date and start another chapter, so to speak, with her bookstore buddy. She was a little taken aback when Foster took her to Small Bar, a place she never expected to be on a first date.

Of course, she never expected to have a first date again. None of us do after long and loving marriages, but life goes on at any age, which Days of our Lives showed us with a lovely charm on Thursday, June 4th.

Because Julie rarely keeps her feelings to herself, she had a few comments to make when Foster ordered jalapeño poppers. Deep-fried is not quite her style, and neither is a little spice in her food. Julie also learned that Foster lives quite the singles life, enjoying some Small Bar karaoke every once in a while, along with dry martinis.

Julie is not quite the karaoke girl, as Doug (Bill Hayes) was the singer in the family, but she's up for a night of trivia at The Brady Pub because Salem is certainly a happening place. At least Foster and Julie could bond over their love of Ian Fleming novels, although for different reasons. Foster liked the fast cars, but Julie did not like the misogyny.

Remembering Doug

While Marlena (Deidre Hall) remembered her husband and stared at his photo in Horton Town Square, Julie remembered Doug after Foster took her home. She looked at his framed photo on the table and realized that Doug would really like Foster.

But does Julie like Foster? She seems to, despite the nerves. She also knows that there can still be happiness for her out there, so as life goes on off-screen, so it does on-screen in Salem.
