Days of our Lives has paired some dastardly duos together over the years – Stefano and Vivian, Craig and Nancy, Clyde and Orpheus, to name a few. They just might all pale in comparison to Salem’s latest power duo, Rachel Black and Sophia Choi, who are conspiring together at Bayview.
Days of our Lives, Rachel Boyd and Alice Halsey

“I know you,” Rachel said when Sophia entered her room. At first, we feared for Brady’s (Eric Martsolf) daughter as Sophia had shown up with an agenda. But then, we reminded ourselves that this was Rachel, a young girl who shot Dan Feuerrigeil's EJ (albeit accidentally) and laced Sarah’s (Linsey Godfrey) ice cream with pistachios (albeit regretfully), knowing that the good doctor was allergic to them.
Rachel and Sophia started off being very cordial with each other, but also guarded. Rachel definitely sizes up anyone who enters her orbit with significant apprehension. Sophia dropped her façade of not being able to speak, not because she’s lonely, but because she wants something from Rachel. She’s not quite done with either her child, who’s been adopted by Johnny (Carson Boatman) and Chanel (Raven Bowens), or Tate (Leo Howard), who just happens to be Rachel’s brother.
Sophia gave Rachel tips on how to deal with psychiatrists who will try to get inside her head. Rachel, an admitted seasoned pro at keeping shrinks at bay, appreciated the gesture. Halsey’s Rachel may be a young girl who’s going on a cynical 40, but she still infuses Rachel with moments of innocence.
Sophia would do well to know that Rachel is not going to be manipulated easily. Told by Sophia that she was being silly for not knowing that she was her friend, Rachel shrugged, "I am not silly, and I don’t really know you.”
Still, Sophia must be doing something right. Rachel lied by omission when Leo showed up, and Sophia went silent. Boyd is an expert at shifting into Sophia’s voiceless, almost catatonic state when other people, like Tate, appear.
Getting to know all about you, getting to like you

When Rachel confessed that she almost made two people die, she showed the beginnings of remorse. She’s announced that she didn’t know what she was doing was so bad. (Well, this is better than saying, “I’d do it again!”)
Boyd asked Rachel if Johnny and Chanel had adopted her baby in such a sweet but evil way, even Rachel was afraid to confirm that yes, the couple had.
Sophia sees Rachel as a little font of information (aren’t many children?) and told the youngster that she could trust her. In her trademark cynicism, Rachel responded, “Uh-huh. And what if I can’t trust you?”
These two women are evenly matched, and their alliance is one of Days of our Lives’ most fascinating dynamics.
Kudos to Rachel Boyd and Alice Halsey for their captivating interpretations of their respective characters.
