Here’s your Days of our Lives recap for Wednesday, April 8, 2006, in which Ari and Holly make amends, Brady has a big ask of Tate, Kristen coaches Rachel, and Stephanie begins therapy with Marlena.
What Happened on Days of our Lives

In Arianna’s dorm room, a hesitant Holly paid a visit to her former roommate. Holly complimented Ari on how different she looked, but Ari wasn’t having it and asked what Holly was doing there. Holly apologized again for her prior behavior and proclaimed that the “bitch” who had been so mean hadn’t been the real her. Ari sarcastically asked if Holly had “DID” or perhaps an “evil twin.” But when Holly invoked Sophia’s name as the reason for her erratic actions, Ari quickly let go of her anger.
Holly told Ari all about the drama with Sophia and the pills. Ari was outraged on Holly’s behalf and agreed with her friend that Sophia should be held accountable. Ari offered her own apology for thinking the worst of Holly, and she also offered to talk to the sorority sisters on Holly’s behalf. After Ari invited Holly to become her roommate again, the friends hugged it out.
Holly spotted the friendship bracelet Liam had left behind on Ari’s desk, and light teasing about Ari’s new guy ensued. Ari demurred on providing details about Liam, but she did admit there was something about him that intrigued her. The friends parted in a much better place, with Ari issuing a warning about Sophia to Holly. Later, Ari sent a text to Liam inviting him over to retrieve his bracelet; she seemed disappointed and hurt when he responded and told her to trash the bracelet because he didn’t need it.
Power breakfast

At the Brady Pub, Tate joined Brady for breakfast. Brady confided that Rachel wasn’t adjusting well during her return to Bayview. Witnessing his girl’s pain made him more determined to prove Sophia’s guilt in the pill fiasco. With that assertion, Brady presented Tate with a water bottle and asked his son if he would be willing to help. Tate was game, so Brady outlined a plan in which Tate would arrange a meeting with Sophia and get her fingerprints on the water bottle, so those prints could be compared with the prints on the pill bottle.
Tate was impressed by Brady’s plan and jokingly asked when his dad had gone “full PI.” Brady took the opening to fill Tate in on Steve’s proposal that Brady join Black Patch. Tate immediately warmed to the idea, but Brady wasn’t so sure. At first, he claimed he didn’t want to be distracted from his parenting duties, but after Tate shot down that belief, Brady admitted he was afraid he couldn’t live up to John’s legacy. Tate reminded Brady that John originally developed Basic Black as a “front” for his ISA work, and as such, Brady shouldn’t feel guilty for leaving the company.
Tate believed John’s work with Black Patch proved that an investigative career was his true passion and destiny, and Tate suggested the same might be true for Brady. After the food for thought, Brady commended his son’s wisdom. Tate confessed that he could relate to Brady because he was also feeling adrift. In fact, he wasn’t certain he wanted to go back to college. Tate reluctantly told Brady about his near-failure with his grades and about his growing feelings that college wasn’t the right path for him.
Brady assured Tate he wasn’t disappointed, just frustrated that his son hadn’t confided his troubles sooner. Other options – like trade school and internships – existed if Tate wished to pursue an alternative route for his future, Brady acknowledged. Tate was glad for his dad’s support, but not so sure Holly would understand. Brady encouraged his son to talk with Holly about his doubts.
The doctor is in

In Horton Town Square, Marlena approached Sophia, who tried to avoid the doctor. Marlena asked how Sophia was doing, but Sophia was skeptical about her concern. She believed Marlena would like nothing more than to see her back in Bayview after what Sophia had done to her “loser grandson.” Marlena balked at Sophia’s use of the word “crazy” in reference to herself, and she stressed to Sophia that she actually empathized with the girl. She knew that Sophia had been through a very difficult ordeal that had caused her to cope in unhealthy ways.
Sophia seemed to soften a bit as Marlena talked up Sophia’s good qualities, but she quickly went on the defensive when Marlena suggested Sophia continue outpatient therapy. She accused Marlena of being like an “ambulance chaser,” but Marlena stressed any potential therapy sessions wouldn’t be with her. Sophia’s anger remained unabated, though, and she vowed she would never return to Bayview again. The tense conversation was disrupted when Sophia got a call from Tate, who wanted to meet up with her. Sophia eagerly agreed to the invite.
Later, Tate joined Sophia in the square. He handed her the water bottle, which contained her favorite drink, as a peace offering. Tate said he’d been thinking a lot about Sophia and everything they had been through together. Tate wanted all the anger and payback schemes to stop. He cautioned Sophia that if she kept it up, she’d send herself to Bayview – or worse – for good.
Sophia didn’t like the way the conversation was going, and Holly’s arrival did nothing to change her mood. She snapped at the couple and stalked off, throwing her water bottle in the trash can along the way. After Sophia was gone, Tate rushed over to the trash and retrieved the bottle, making sure not to get his own prints on it. Pleased, he brought the bottle back to a confused Holly, clarified his plan, and announced it had been a success.
Mother knows best

At Bayview, Kristen visited Rachel, who was lying in her bed and did her best to ignore her mother. When Kristen said she loved her, Rachel shot back, “I hate you!” Rachel lashed out at Kristen for not doing more to prevent her return to Bayview. She cried how much she hated it there. Kristen defended herself and started to say, “I never believed your grandmother would –”
When Rachel asked for clarification, though, Kristen backtracked and claimed she had only meant she couldn’t believe that Marlena’s testimony hadn’t helped. Rachel didn’t blame her grandma, and she admitted she didn’t really blame her mom, either. She also said she didn’t hate her mom. Mother and daughter reaffirmed their love for each other and shared a tearful hug.
Rachel’s thoughts turned to Sophia. She was still hurt that her friend had betrayed her. “You learned an important lesson,” Kristen advised. “If you’re not the brains of the operation, then you’re the fall guy.” Rachel couldn’t understand why Sophia had been able to leave Bayview while she’d been sent back.
Kristen told Rachel to play along with what the doctors said and to essentially tell them what they wanted to hear. Brady walked in just as Kristen was giving their daughter a pep talk on how to “con” the system. He sent Rachel to get a lemonade so he could confront his ex about the conversation. Following Rachel's departure, the encounter quickly devolved into another shouting match in which Kristen and Brady blamed each other for Rachel’s predicament. When Rachel came back, she implored her parents to stop arguing with each other.
Brady and Kristen called a truce in the moment for Rachel’s sake. When Kristen indicated she would be leaving, Rachel cried in her arms as Kristen helplessly held her daughter.
Patch-ing up Stephanie

At Alex and Stephanie’s apartment, Stephanie accidentally knocked over a vase and had a visceral flashback to when Owen had kidnapped her. She locked the door and collapsed against it, shaken.
Steve, who had received a concerning call from Alex, stopped by to see Stephanie. He asked how she was doing and if she wanted his help in removing the deadbolt locks. Stephanie said she wasn’t ready for that step, but her dad could help by taking her to the shooting range and teaching her how to use a gun. Steve believed a gun wasn’t what Stephanie needed to feel safe, and he gently suggested she try therapy.
Stephanie didn’t feel ready for that step either. She admitted she didn’t want to return to the “scene of the crime”: the hospital. Steve offered to contact Marlena for a home visit, and Stephanie finally agreed.
Later, a pensive Stephanie welcomed Marlena into her home. As the women sat down, Marlena asked how Stephanie was feeling. Stephanie said she was at her wits’ end because she was usually the person someone called to take care of a crisis, and now she couldn’t stop being in crisis and feeling like a victim. She was afraid, whether waking or sleeping, and she even lived in fear of an unlocked door. But it was somehow worse when the door was locked, because then all of her bad choices played on a constant loop in her mind.
Stephanie opened up about her prior destructive relationships, beginning with Jeremy. Her inability to get past what Jeremy had done to her had left her vulnerable to Owen. “What’s wrong with me?” Stephanie tearfully asked. Marlena reassured Stephanie that nothing was wrong with her. The feelings of helplessness were a result of PTSD and were completely normal.
Moreover, Marlena believed, Stephanie’s bad choices in the past would better equip her to make better choices in the future. She urged Stephanie to surround herself with love and with people who cared about her to feel safe again. Marlena’s words appeared to bring Stephanie comfort. She promised she would contact Marlena, day or night, if she became overwhelmed and wanted to talk.
