In today’s Days of our Lives recap for August 17, 2026, Abe and Theo stood strong in the wake of devastating news, Gwen pulled a fast one, Javi learned Leo never left Alamainia behind, and the Price family rallied around one of their own.
Cop Shop Talk

At the police station, Rafe brought in a protesting Gwen. As the duo sniped about plane accommodations, Leo being left behind, and Gwen’s promised confession, Jada joined the proceedings. But when Jada indicated she would offer Gwen a deal ‘only’ if Gwen provided information she deemed useful, Gwen clammed up. She had no idea what incriminating letter Rafe was referencing, as the only letter she’d written was an apology letter to Leo. Rafe lashed out at Gwen for reneging on the deal.
Gwen reminded Rafe she’d only said she’d think about a deal. Rafe and Jada grew frustrated and needled Gwen that her refusal to cooperate would mean EJ once again skated for his crimes. Gwen still wouldn’t budge, so Rafe gave up for the time being and went home. Gwen took that as her cue to leave as well. Jada couldn’t stop her, and Gwen left with a parting shot about Rafe’s onerous snoring on the plane.
Meanwhile at the Hernandez home, Javi returned from a work shift and was taken aback to see Rafe. He immediately asked about Leo. Rafe broke the news about Leo staying behind in Alamainia…with Dimitri.
After hearing the details of Leo’s decision, a clearly worried Javi called his ex a “brave idiot.” Rafe insisted Leo chose to stay for Gwen’s sake. Javi challenged his cousin on why Rafe had abandoned Leo.
Bedside Vigil

In the DiMera mansion tunnels, Abe rushed to Lexie’s side while Theo stepped out to call for an ambulance. The sight of Lexie in the bed got Abe choked up. He took her hand and begged Lexie to fight. Her lack of response distressed him further and, when Theo returned, he frantically asked if they had arrived too late. Theo took his mom’s pulse and confirmed she was still alive. Abe and Theo waited uneasily until help arrived.
Later, at the hospital, Kayla was stunned when Lexie was brought into the ER. Abe and Theo briefly explained the situation. When Theo said that Dr. Rolf had apparently declared nothing could be done, Kayla responded, “We’ll see about that.” She went to the hospital room to check on Lexie’s condition. Lexie awoke, disoriented.
After Kayla informed her she had been admitted to the hospital, Lexie was in despair. Kayla calmed her patient and friend the best she could and asked Lexie for details on her condition. Lexie opened up about her ordeal and the measures to which she’d gone so Abe and Theo would be spared further pain. Her mention of Kristen piqued Kayla’s curiosity, but Lexie only said that Kristen had tried to talk her out of leaving town. As Kayla left to run Lexie’s blood work, she asked Lexie if Abe and Theo could come inside; Lexie reluctantly complied.
Lexie shared a tearful and bittersweet reunion with her family until Kayla returned with the test results. Kayla somberly told Abe and Theo that Dr. Rolf had been right. While they could take steps to prolong Lexie’s life temporarily and make her comfortable, death would be inevitable and soon. Theo implored his mom to accept the treatments. Lexie cried that she had wanted more than anything to spare Abe and Theo the agony of watching her die all over again.
Abe echoed Theo’s pleas, and Lexie acquiesced. She told Kayla to begin the treatments. She would do anything for more time with her family.
Labor Pains

At Johnny and Chanel’s place, Paulina, Lani, Johnny, and Chanel were discussing Abe’s abrupt departure from his birthday dinner when Chanel winced in pain. As Johnny and Lani gathered around her, Chanel announced her near-certainty that the contractions were real. She was in labor. Johnny did breathing exercises with her as Chanel lamented their unreadiness. Paulina stated the baby had other ideas.
Commotion ensued, and following a quick call to Julie about babysitting Trey, the frantic family made their way to the hospital. Later, Kayla settled Chanel in her bed. Paulina’s fussiness and constant questions irritated Chanel, and she suggested her mom “get some air.” Lani did her sister a solid and escorted Paulina out of the room.
With a moment finally to themselves, Chanel and Johnny talked the challenges of raising two babies. Both they and Trey had to adapt to new realities, and Johnny believed it had made their family all the more resilient. After everything they had endured the past year, they would tackle this next challenge with the same resilience and love. The couple joked about narrowing down their long list of baby names. “Elvis” and “Quatro” were definitely off the list for permanent names.
Meanwhile, at the nurses’ station, Lani and Paulina spotted Abe and Theo. All four were surprised to see each other. Father and son offered congratulations when they learned Chanel was in labor. After Paulina and Lani asked why they were at the hospital, Abe and Theo shocked the women by revealing that Lexie was there and that she didn’t have much time. Before Paulina and Lani could get details, Kayla cut the conversation short by sending the men back to Lexie. Kayla said she couldn’t provide information herself because of patient confidentiality, but she did disclose that Lexie had been found at the DiMera mansion.
Still processing the news about Lexie, Paulina and Lani returned to Chanel’s room while Johnny and Chanel were mid-discussion about baby names. After a few more light moments of banter, Kayla came back and continued her very busy shift of double duty with the expectant mom, since the OB-GYN hadn’t arrived yet. Chanel was only one centimeter dilated out of 10 and would also need a blood transfusion, due to a low blood count. With Johnny and her family by her side, Chanel prepared for the next step in welcoming her baby into the world.
Boy or girl? Happy and healthy? And what about that name? Sound off in the comments.
