In today’s Days of our Lives recap for August 19, 2026, the Kiriakis mansion inhabitants were left in flux, Gabi made her decision, and Rafe pressed Javi to make his own decision.

Guest Quarters

Outside the Brady Pub, Kate answered a summons from Roman. He consoled her about the imminent loss of Titan, as he knew how much saving the company had meant to Kate. When Roman learned the mansion was also likely going up for sale, he extended an invitation to Kate: move back into the pub. Kate’s excitement was tempered after Roman clarified that Arianna would be returning to the dorms. Therefore, Kate could take her old room.

Kate made a defeated comment about assuming that Roman’s overture meant he was ready to reconcile. Roman apologized for getting her hopes up. Although he wasn’t quite ready yet, he assured Kate that he wanted to work on their marriage. Kate moving back into the pub could be the first step. Kate said she was willing to try anything and accepted Roman’s invitation.

Pub Puzzle Night

Inside the pub, Brady and Marlena caught up over a meal. They talked briefly about Tate’s burgeoning business venture and about Leo. Marlena expressed shock and concern that Leo had chosen to stay in Alamainia with Dimitri. The topic soon turned to an even more distressing topic: the downfall of Titan. Brady broke the news to Marlena that Basic Black would likely fall into EJ’s clutches. The DiMera would either sell off the company or, in all probability, shut it down entirely.

Marlena was saddened by the revelation but still took the time to reassure Brady that he wasn’t responsible for Basic Black’s fate. Moreover, she stressed that John would be proud of his son regardless. Brady was already honoring his dad’s legacy by fighting to make the world a better place through his work with Black Patch. Marlena also talked up Brady’s gifts as a father. He had navigated his children — especially Rachel — through turbulent times. Raising a toast skyward, Brady attributed any of his successes in fatherhood to the fact that he’d “learned from the best.”

Later, Kate filled a departing Brady’s empty seat at Marlena’s table. She told Marlena about Roman’s invite and thanked her sometimes-friend for encouraging her not to give up on the marriage. After Kate went upstairs, Roman joined Marlena and caught his ex off guard by stating he’d been worried about Marlena…specifically regarding the chess set. Marlena said she hadn’t wanted anything to do with the mystery, but Belle and Chad were determined to investigate.

Roman mused about the last mystery chess set Stefano had left behind. Marlena recalled that the previous set had been missing the queen, while the current set had the pawn missing. Roman pondered what — or who — the pawn could represent.

Living Arrangement Limbo

At the Kiriakis mansion, Sarah returned home, exhausted from a long shift. She told Xander about Chanel’s labor and about the tragedy with Lexie…another deplorable incident they could blame on EJ. Xander snarled about his nemesis and was visibly distracted by EJ’s latest attack on the family. He informed Sarah they had a buyer for the mansion: a billionaire from Italy with a hedge fund. Xander remarked on the bitter irony that he’d worked so long to gain entrance into the mansion and into the family only to lose it all.

Sarah was taken aback by the news, as she hadn’t expected it to happen so quickly. Xander had wanted to ensure EJ did not get his hands on the mansion. The exes discussed where they would live. Xander intended to remain in his apartment. When he began to wax poetic about how nice it had been to live so closely to Sarah and to Victoria, Sarah assumed he was asking her to move in with him.

Xander promptly clarified that he knew that arrangement wouldn’t work. He suggested instead that Sarah and Victoria move into their own apartment in the same complex. Sarah promised to think it over, and the duo departed for their respective errands.

Sarah later met with Brady, and they both commiserated over the turmoil with Titan and the mansion. When Sarah mentioned her soon-to-be homeless status, Brady made an unknowing counter-offer: Sarah could move in with Rachel and him.

High-Stakes, or Hitting Delete

At Titan, Philip tried to butter up an arriving Gabi by reiterating how grateful and indebted he would be if she loaned him the gambling money. Gabi shot Philip’s hopes down and sent him into self-declared “despair” by turning down his request. She claimed she couldn’t in good conscience “throw good money after bad.” Philip argued Gabi would be essentially throwing away the money (Stefan’s money) that she’d already invested into Titan. Gabi said she’d already secured Ari’s future with a trust fund, and that was what mattered most to her.

Philip eventually conceded defeat and announced he would soon be “hitting delete” on Titan and on his life. Gabi defended her decision and hinted she was protecting Philip as well. The comment piqued his curiosity, so Gabi admitted she’d done research on Philip’s previous history. In the process, she’d discovered Philip had become a gambling addict. Philip insisted those problems were in the past and that one game wouldn't send him spiraling.

Xander soon joined the somber session. His revelation that the mansion had essentially been sold did nothing to lift his brother’s spirits. Philip got angry and left, and Gabi followed him. Alone, an emotional Xander made the call to confirm the mansion’s sale.

Philip went to the mansion and shared a comforting moment with Kate, who had come to pack. Later, Philip took in the room and gave a resigned apology to Victor’s portrait. But just as he hung his head in defeat, Gabi put a hand on his shoulder. She had changed her mind and would lend Philip the money. She urged him to save Titan.

Torn Between Two Loves

At the Hernandez home, Javi worried over Leo’s lack of response to all his texts and phone calls. Despite Rafe’s assertions to the contrary, Javi was certain Dimitri had taken away Leo’s forms of communication and was holding Leo against his will. Javi again blasted Rafe for leaving Leo behind after he had convinced Javi not to accompany him to Alamainia. Rafe countered that Javi couldn’t have done anything.

Rafe also prodded Javi about how Gus would feel if he knew the depth of Javi’s concern for Leo. Javi insisted Gus was fine with it and that he was only worried about Leo because of their shared history…just as Rafe would be if Jada or Sami were in trouble. Rafe conceded Javi’s point, but he still believed Javi had serious unresolved feelings for Leo. Javi protested.

Rafe told Javi it was okay for his cousin to love whomever he wanted. But Javi needed to do some soul-searching and figure out who he truly loved.

Parting is Not-So-Sweet Sorrow

In Alamainia, Dimitri approached as Leo tossed and turned on the couch. When Leo awakened, he said he’d had a dream where Dimitri had let him go. Dimitri brought Leo back to reality and declared that dream was never coming true. Dimitri excitedly made plans for all the grand and lavish adventures Leo and he would go on together, but a frustrated Leo stopped him cold and lamented he only wanted to go home.

Leo got serious and said the old him would have jumped at all Dimitri was offering. But months on Marlena’s couch had helped Leo see clearly what he wanted: true love, not the “toxic” kind he’d shared with Dimitri. “I’m not your person anymore,” Leo emphasized. Dimitri refused to let Leo diminish their relationship. Why else would Leo agree to stay if he didn’t want to be with Dimitri on some deeper level?

Leo simply replied he’d done it for Gwen…for his friend whose heart he had destroyed. Dimitri invoked Javi’s name and asked how long Leo would stay hung up on someone who didn’t love him any longer. “You tell me,” Leo shot back. He added that it was because he loved Javi that he was willing to let him go and be happy. Dimitri seemed to be hearing Leo’s words and wondered if letting Leo leave would mean he had changed like Leo had.

After a few more moments of reflection, Dimitri told Leo he was free to go. He compelled Leo to leave before he changed his mind. Leo leaped at the opportunity, but he couldn’t go before he’d said a few things. He’d be as brief as he was capable. Leo stated his belief that Dimitri tried to impress people with his wealth and power because he didn’t think he had anything else to offer.

Leo stressed Dimitri was wrong. During their relationship, Dimitri had shown a sweet, caring, and generous side that he rarely let out. If Dimitri could embrace that wonderful guy inside of him, Leo had no doubt that Dimitri would one day find real love, just as Leo had done. Leo thanked Dimitri because their relationship had been meaningful to him, and he would never forget it. The exes shared a wistful and seemingly genuine hug before Leo departed.

Will – and should – Leo and Javi find their way back to each other? Will Kate stop feeling like a guest in her own home? Which roomie will Sarah choose? And is the mansion mystery buyer’s Italian lineage more than coincidental? Sound off in the comments.
