In today’s Days of our Lives recap for August 26, 2026, the fallout from Lexie’s death continued, Marlena was unsettled, and Jada and Shawn made time for romance, whilst another Salem romance hit the rocks.
Cross-Stitch Concerns

At Marlena’s place, Belle found Marlena doing needlepoint work on the couch. Marlena explained she hoped to de-stress from worrying about Abe, Theo, Johnny and his family…and Belle herself. More specifically, Stefano’s plans for the chess set deeply concerned Marlena. Belle argued that Stefano never would have done anything to harm Chad or Marlena’s daughter, but Marlena reminded said daughter that the situation was out of Stefano’s hands. He could have set a trap for John and Marlena, which Chad and Belle would find themselves ensnared in instead.
Not so fast, Belle added. She told Marlena about the new clue she’d uncovered in the concert program, which had led both Chad and Belle to believe that someone living was helping Stefano see his mission through. Belle’s prime suspect was Rolf, and she knew he wouldn’t hurt Stefano’s son. The person was likely assisting them in finding answers. Marlena recalled the last chess set (with a missing queen) that Stefano had given to John, along with a Sleeping Beauty pillow for Marlena. Since she hadn’t wanted anything to do with Stefano’s games then or now, she had returned the gifts to Tony.
Rather than dissuade Belle, the information only solidified her determination to find answers. She believed Marlena’s previous gift and the current chess set might be connected, and she wanted to tell Chad about it. Belle left with the declaration that the family needed to vanquish the ghost of Stefano lingering over them. Later, Marlena resumed her needlework and poked her finger with the needle, which prompted a memory of her doing the same thing on a flower atop the Sleeping Beauty pillow.
Sister’s Keeper

At the DiMera mansion, EJ lamented the failure of the experiment with Lexie and apologized to his father’s portrait for only honoring Stefano’s final wish for a short time. Cat entered and gave her condolences to EJ. She encouraged him to open up if he wanted to talk. EJ thanked her and deemed her the only friend he had left in the world. He didn’t know what he’d do without her. He did open up about how the miracle drug had gone wrong and how Lexie had begged him not to reveal her prognosis to Abe and Theo, for fear of causing them more pain.
Cat realized the problems with the drug were why EJ had refused her request to help her mom with it. EJ stressed he couldn’t in good conscience give Cat false hope, and Cat said she understood and thanked him. When the topic turned to Kristen’s whereabouts, though, EJ briefly snapped at Cat before apologizing and reiterating that he had no idea of his sister’s location or of why she had disappeared. He expressed regret for the fraught relationships he’d had with all his siblings over the years, including Chad. Cat wondered if she might be the root cause of any current friction with EJ’s brother.
EJ conceded that Chad and he having swapped romantic partners hadn’t helped the relationship, but it had endured its challenges well before current times. Cat’s mention of Chad and Belle taking a trip to Italy together caught EJ’s attention. He thought it might be about more than a romantic getaway. Cat asserted that whatever Chad and Belle were pursuing, it had nothing to do with EJ. Contemplative, he touched his phoenix ring at the remark.
Celebration of Life

At the Brady Pub, Theo reflected with Abe on how life went on, even in the wake of death. Chanel’s baby had been born almost at the precise moment his mom had passed away. Abe showed Theo a picture that had been sent to him of baby Olivia Alexandra, and both agreed that Chanel’s choice of a name was such a wonderful and generous gesture. Abe had no doubt that the little girl would have a fierce guardian angel for the rest of her life.
The mood soured somewhat when Theo brought up Johnny and EJ. He was wary of both men constantly claiming they were only acting in the best interests of the family, and he didn’t trust either of them. Father and son were soon joined by Roman, who gave them comforting hugs and words of condolence. Theo excused himself to take a walk, leaving the elder friends to catch up. When Roman said Kate and he were there if Abe needed anything, Abe told Roman about Lexie’s final wish for a celebration of life.
The news that Lexie had wanted the celebration to take place at the pub surprised Roman, but Abe believed it was the ideal spot since both the pub and the Brady family had meant so much to Lexie. When Abe offered to pay, Roman wouldn’t hear of it. His parents had always valued the work of healthcare professionals and police, of which Lexie had been both. Moreover, Roman would consider it an honor to pay tribute to Lexie and to honor Abe, his best friend.
Date Night Interruptus

At Jada’s apartment, Jada walked in to a romantic setup by Shawn, complete with candles and a chicken marsala. Jada smiled and asked about the special occasion. Shawn took her in his arms and declared he wanted to repay her for taking care of him by taking care of her. The couple enjoyed a flirtatious dinner, in which Jada complemented her beau’s culinary skills and offered herself up for dessert. Just as things were getting heated at the table, Stephanie rushed through the door and stopped in her tracks when she saw Jada in Shawn’s lap.
Mortified and embarrassed by the interruption, Stephanie apologized and made a quick exit, despite Jada’s protests. After Stephanie left, Shawn suggested he make himself scarce around the apartment…at least while Stephanie was there. Jada firmly shut down his offer to move out. While Shawn joked about leaving socks on the door, Jada presented a better idea: they’d keep their private activities in the bedroom. Shawn said that’s where he did his best work, and he readily answered Jada’s teasing challenge to prove it.
Breaking Point

Prior to her apartment mishap, Stephanie had an even more harrowing encounter with Alex in Horton Town Square. When he’d seen her sitting alone and lost in thought, he’d asked if anything was wrong. But the conversation soon devolved into a spat of mutual jealousy after Alex mentioned he’d seen Stephanie “cuddled up” with Theo at the hospital. Stephanie shot back that she’d seen Alex “cuddled up” with Joy. Alex defended that Joy had gotten bad news, and Stephanie said Theo’s day had been much worse.
Theo’s loss of his mom had reminded Stephanie that people had bigger problems than them, and she didn’t have the energy to fight. Besides, since Alex had Kelsey, she shouldn’t be around anyway. She left Alex behind and went to the apartment.
After Stephanie left the apartment, she ran into Alex and Kelsey again in the hallway. Alex wanted to talk and asked if Jada could watch Kelsey. Stephanie said that was out of the question. She let Alex know that things couldn’t go on the same way. Alex could be there for Joy, or he could be there for his wife, but he couldn’t have both. When Alex argued he was only trying to help his daughter, Stephanie scoffed at the notion that Joy didn’t factor in and walked away, as Alex called after her.
A disgruntled Alex returned to the square in the hopes of easing Kelsey’s fussiness with a stroll. He breathed a sigh of relief after Belle appeared on the scene and worked her mom magic on Kelsey. Alex profusely thanked her and admitted Kelsey was picking up on his stress. Belle lent a sympathetic listening ear while Alex confided his problems. She gently cautioned him that if he did not make his marriage a priority, he could lose his wife.
Meanwhile, in the park, Stephanie had another chance encounter with Theo. She tried to express her sympathies for Lexie’s passing, but Theo wanted to focus on Stephanie and why she was all alone and distressed in the park. Stephanie confessed she had nowhere else to go. She told him about the latest incident with Alex and, Jada and Shawn. Theo had a proposal: come home with him.
Theo refuted Stephanie’s protests by saying that having someone around would be a comfort to him. Stephanie could stay as long as she needed. After giving it some thought, Stephanie accepted the invitation.
Is Theph or Steo on the horizon? Should Jada and Shawn invest in that sock? And does Belle have the Italy mystery all sewn up, or will Marlena pull a thread that unravels it all? Sound off in the comments.
