On the Friday, August 28, 2026, episode of Days of our Lives, Marlena hired Steve, Ari told Holly about a confession, Jack made Kate an offer, and Sarah lost her temper.
Editor for Hire

At the Brady Pub, Steve told Jack that he was jealous that Jack had grandkids and hoped things would change with Kelsey. Steve admitted he was concerned about Stephanie’s emotional well-being while she was feuding with Joy about Kelsey. After some brother time, Jack left to handle some work.
Chad was working at the paper when EJ stopped by to ask about Chad’s trip to Italy. Chad played down his trip, but EJ was not fooled. EJ asked Chad whether he was pursuing a lead on Stefano’s chess puzzle. Chad asked EJ why he cared. EJ said he was curious about their father’s bequest to Marlena. Chad noted that the gift had been for Marlena, and it was not EJ’s business. EJ disagreed. As the two brothers stared at one another, Jack walked in.
After EJ left, Jack asked Chad about the progress on hiring a new metro editor. Chad admitted that he had not found any good applicants. Jack said he had an idea, and he called Kate and asked her to meet him in the square. Jack asked Kate if she would be interested in an editorial position at the paper. Kate asked for time to think about it.
One Coin in a Fountain

At the penthouse, Belle finalized plans for her absence while on vacation. When Belle noticed the injury on Marlena’s hand, Marlena admitted she had been distracted while working on needlepoint. Marlena did not admit that she had been thinking about when she had hurt her finger in the same manner the last time Stefano had sent her a chess piece. Marlena talked about a memory of John from Italy when they had tossed a coin in a fountain and agreed to trust one another.
Curious, Belle asked if that was the same coin that Marlena had found at John’s grave. Marlena said yes. “It just appeared there,” Marlena said as she pulled it out of her purse. Marlena admitted that the coin helped her feel close to John, and she insisted that Belle take it with her on the trip. Marlena said it would help her feel like John was watching out for her.
Marlena joined Steve at the pub and told him about Belle’s quest in Italy. Steve was concerned that someone was actively sending clues to Belle. Marlena asked Steve to track down who was sending the clues and determine their interest in the matter. Marlena and Steve agreed Rolf was the top suspect, but Steve wanted to explore other avenues.
When Marlena mentioned that Belle and Chad were flying out on the DiMera jet that night, Steve argued, “Knowledge is power.” Marlena agreed. Steve assured Marlena that Belle was doing what John would have done if he had still been alive.
Chad and Belle met up in the square to do some last minute shopping for the daddy-daughter dance. Chad asked Belle if she was nervous about their trip. She said yes. Belle added that she was also nervous so spend time alone with Chad. After Belle and Chad returned to the penthouse, someone dropped off a bottle of Dom Perignon champagne at the front door. The bottle had a note from EJ that said, “Dom voyage.” Belle rolled her eyes.
Everything Must Go

Xander was packing up the living room of the Kiriakis mansion when he stopped to look at Victor’s portrait. “What a legacy, huh?” Xander said. Sarah asked Xander if he needed help with the move, but he declined. After a moment, Sarah told Xander that she believed Victor would have been proud of him for how hard he fought to save the company. Before Xander could respond, Holly stomped into the room. Holly told them that she had almost confronted EJ about the pills, but she had kept her anger in check.
Xander apologized for having set aside their investigation in favor of dealing with the collapse of Titan. Sarah and Xander assured Holly that they would make EJ pay for what he had done to her. After Holly left, Sarah lost her temper and she went to the DiMera mansion to confront EJ.
Sarah told EJ that she had wanted to yell at him for hurting all the people that she loved, but she had realized that EJ was also losing a lot in his life. EJ scoffed. Sarah noted that although she was upset about Lexie’s death, she was pleased that EJ’s actions meant that he would lose the hospital to Gwen. EJ joked that Sarah was familiar with how easy it was for Gwen to steal things. Sarah noted that Xander’s history with Gwen did not bother her.
With a shrug, EJ argued that Sarah could not blame him for Titan’s downfall. EJ argued that he had only attacked after Titan had sued his son. When EJ asked how Sarah would feel if he had done the same to Victoria, Sarah said, “I would want revenge against anyone that hurt my kid, or anyone else that I love.”
Sarah warned EJ that the Kiriakis family would have their revenge. EJ laughed it off, but after Sarah left, he called Rita. EJ told Rita that Sarah was clearly still investigating the Coriseal cover-up. EJ also asked Rita to look into Stefano’s chess puzzle.
Meanwhile, Ari marched into the pub and told Kate about the conversation she had overheard between EJ and Johnny. Ari repeated that EJ had said, “Holly doesn’t know about it.” Kate suggested that they talk to Holly. When Ari returned to her dorm room, Holly was finishing unpacking her stuff. Ari told Holly about the conversation she had overheard between EJ and Johnny at DiMera.
At the Kiriakis mansion, Xander took Victor’s portrait off of the wall and boxed it up. Holly called him to tell him about her conversation with Ari. Xander agreed with Holly that he believed EJ had been talking about the pills. Holly asked Xander not to let anyone know that the information had come from Ari. When Sarah returned to the Kiriakis mansion, she told Xander about her confrontation with EJ. Xander told Sarah about Holly’s phone call. Sarah agreed with Xander that it sounded like EJ had admitted his guilt to Johnny. “But how do we prove it?” Xander said.
