What Happened on Days of our Lives

At the Kiriakis mansion, Maggie and Holly got Sarah settled on the couch. Sarah promised them she would be fine. When Maggie asked about the allergic reaction, Sarah brushed it off and remained vague. The subject turned to Holly’s pumpkin-infused Friendsgiving. After some fretting about her grades in college, Holly mentioned she’d likely be visiting her Mom and Eric in Paris for Christmas.
Maggie updated her daughter and granddaughter on Justin and Bonnie’s visit to Mimi and her child for the holiday. Maggie grew wistful at the talk of her family being separated. Holly filled her grandma and Sarah in on her internship with Stephanie. She had been enjoying the experience, but she did find a few of Stephanie’s fan letters to be on the “creepy” side. When Maggie expressed concern, Holly assured her that there was nothing to worry about.
After Holly briefly left the room, Sarah asked Maggie if Xander had used her hospitalization to see Victoria. Maggie surprised her by revealing Xander had respected Sarah’s wishes and had stayed away. Once Sarah told her mom about Xander’s restrained encounter with her at the hospital, Maggie mused that Xander could finally be “growing up” and turning a corner. “Too little, too late,” Sarah countered.
Maggie again brought up the subject of Sarah’s allergic reaction. She had noticed her daughter’s evasiveness about the situation. Reluctantly, Sarah admitted that the incident hadn’t been an accident.
At the DiMera mansion, EJ swore off Thanksgiving festivities to Gwen. They talked briefly about Chad’s disappearance. Gwen was not at all shocked that the “high and mighty” Hortons had turned on Chad, and she defended Chad as a wonderful father. EJ got a call from Theo, who requested help with work. Gwen moaned about having to find her own fun after EJ left her alone at the mansion.
In Xander’s room, Xander drunkenly stumbled to the bed. He stared forlornly at a picture of Sarah on his phone and recalled the much happier Thanksgiving the year before. “Happy bloody Thanksgiving to me,” he groaned.
Later, Xander made his way to Horton Town Square with another drink in hand. An equally moody Gwen came across him and made a sarcastic quip about his appearance. After a bit of banter, she extended him an invitation to spend the day with her. He eventually acquiesced. The duo returned to the DiMera mansion, where Gwen prepared Xander a proper hangover cure: an English breakfast.
At Xander’s reluctance to eat the meal, an offended Gwen pledged she hadn’t poisoned it. Xander told her his tale of woe about signing divorce and custody papers and about Sarah seemingly moving on with his “idiot” nephew. He lamented being alone on Thanksgiving, but Gwen reminded him he wasn’t alone. She could think of much worse company. Xander questioned Gwen’s motives for inviting him over.
Gwen blasted Xander’s ego and assured him that, unlike himself, she could take a hint. She just wanted to spend the day with a friend. Seemingly satisfied with the response, Xander wished Gwen a happy Thanksgiving.
At DiMera Enterprises, Theo ignored calls from Abe as he stressed about a business deal. EJ arrived and helped Theo navigate the complexities, since EJ had first made the deal in question. Theo conceded that Tony’s absence was taking a toll, as Tony had promised to help Theo find his footing at the company. EJ gave his nephew a pep talk and offered his assistance with anything Theo might need in the future. Theo thanked him and informed EJ he had to get to Johnny and Chanel’s place for Thanksgiving; EJ bristled at the mention of Theo’s destination but wished his nephew well.
At Johnny and Chanel’s place, the couple returned from putting Trey to sleep and profusely thanked Paulina for preparing the Thanksgiving meal. Abe kept getting non-responses from Theo, so the rest of the family offered to wait for him. They chatted about Sarah’s and Marlena’s hospitalizations, and Paulina groused about EJ’s role in the latter. She apologized to Johnny for speaking ill of his dad on Thanksgiving, but Johnny reassured her he shared the sentiment.
Abe told the group about his rocky start with his new mentee, Liam, including Liam’s attempted mugging of Cat. Johnny revealed that he was thinking about giving up his part-time teaching gig to focus on his work at Titan and on new fatherhood. The couples then shared a warm call with Eli, Lani, and the twins.
When Theo arrived, hugs and greetings were exchanged. Theo said he’d been held up at work and braced himself after adding that EJ had helped him. To Theo’s astonishment, Abe took the news in stride and even commended Theo for asking for aid when he needed it. After Theo stepped into the kitchen area, Paulina gushed about Abe’s willingness to put aside his concerns for Theo’s sake. Abe, meanwhile, thought back on striking a deal with EJ to undermine Theo at DiMera.
Later, the group gathered to express their thanks. Abe was grateful that Theo had returned home, and Theo was equally happy to be home. Johnny gave thanks for the “extended family” that had helped him through a difficult year. The biggest reason of all for gratitude, Trey, soon made his presence known. Paulina went to get him so the little boy could share in the family love.
In the secret lab, EJ approached the glowing capsule. He spoke of how Thanksgiving was to be shared with loved ones, which was true for him in that moment. Placing a hand on the capsule, EJ said that Rolf had made a “tremendous breakthrough” with his animal experiments. “I pray this means I’ll be seeing you again very soon,” he added.
