At Bayview, Sophia continued bonding with Rachel over a game of cards. When Rachel mentioned the lack of good food in the facility, Sophia gave her a sly smile and suggested she had a way to secure them a couple of meals from Buddy’s Burgers. Rachel expressed confusion, until Sophia outlined a plan where she would sneak out of Bayview while the guard was on a smoke break. After Sophia indicated she needed Rachel’s help for the plan, Rachel was reluctant.

Sophia talked up the burgers and snacks they could enjoy, which easily secured Rachel’s compliance. Later, Rachel fulfilled her part of the plan by going to Sophia’s room and slipping into bed so the visiting nurse wouldn’t know Sophia was gone. When Sophia later returned with the food haul (bought with money Sophia had stolen from a nurse's purse), Rachel beamed and shared a high-five with her new friend. Rachel said she hadn’t had so much fun in a long time. Sophia replied it was “us against them” and hinted their “adventures are just beginning.”

At the Brady Pub, Brady updated Tate on his plans to move out of Marlena’s townhouse and into the Kiriakis mansion. He admitted that he had friction with Marlena but would not go into details. Tate wasn’t sure where the new plans left him to go for winter break. Brady hoped that Tate might stay with him so he would have at least one child around for the holidays.

At the Kiriakis mansion, Sarah chatted with Holly concerning Victoria’s reticence about Santa: a fear to which Holly could relate. Holly excitedly anticipated her Christmas Paris trip. She indicated that she wanted to spend as much time as possible with Tate before she left, then conveyed her sympathies about Sarah and Xander’s divorce. Sarah conceded she was sad but believed the break-up was ultimately for the best.

After Holly left to finish packing at the dorms, Brady stopped by and informed Sarah she would soon be getting a new housemate. Sarah was happy for the company but puzzled as to why Brady was moving out of Marlena’s place. Brady confided how betrayed he felt by his stepmother since she had known for months that Rachel had shot EJ and hadn’t told him. Sarah somewhat defended Marlena and her motives, but Brady felt he could have prevented what happened to Rachel and to Sarah if he would have known.

Sarah stressed the incident with the ice cream hadn’t changed how she felt about Rachel. She still empathized with and loved the little girl because of the connection they had shared since Rachel’s childhood. Brady acknowledged his feelings had changed toward Rachel’s mother. He felt guilt for how he had treated Kristen when she had confessed to EJ’s shooting. When Sarah questioned if Brady’s personal feelings about Kristen had changed, Brady insisted he only viewed Kristen more positively as a mother and nothing more.

Brady opened up about how helpless he felt every time he visited Rachel, and his daughter begged to come home. Sarah asserted that in the long-term it was a positive development that Rachel was getting the help she needed. She comforted Brady with a hug.

At the university dorms, Tate met up with Holly and told her about Brady moving into the mansion with Maggie. Holly saw the move as a potential positive development since Tate and she would be under the same roof once she returned from Paris. The teens decided to take advantage of the dorms’ vacancy for some romantic enjoyment. Later, Holly suggested Tate didn’t have to choose between the mansion and Marlena’s place for the holidays if he went with her to Paris. Tate didn’t need to think it over long before he enthusiastically accepted the invitation.

In Horton Town Square, Chanel called Johnny -- who was still in Chicago -- and told him all about her plans for Trey’s first Christmas. When she returned home, though, her upbeat mood quickly soured after Paulina informed her of Theo’s and Chad’s disappearances. Chanel was worried for the other DiMeras’ safety but also concerned about what the threats might mean for Johnny, Trey, and herself. Paulina told her daughter she had contacted Johnny about the developments and that Johnny was on his way home. She also offered her security detail to the couple.

Despite Paulina’s reassurances that the family might not be in danger, Chanel’s fears were not assuaged. She asked about suspects, and Paulina said EJ’s name had been brought up. While Chanel didn’t care for EJ, she had trouble believing he would hurt his family…except for perhaps her. Paulina took her turn at playing devil’s advocate and convinced Chanel that EJ wouldn’t harm her because Johnny would never forgive him. When Chanel went to freshen up, however, Paulina secretly hoped she wouldn’t be proven wrong in her reassurances.

In Chicago, someone lurked outside of Stephanie’s hotel room. Stephanie, alert to the threat, greeted her intruder with a steak knife. When she saw a shocked Alex recoiling, Stephanie lowered the weapon and chewed out her boyfriend for scaring her. Alex apologized and said he had wanted to surprise her, but he had gotten the surprise instead. After the tense moment eased, Alex told Stephanie about the latest over-the-top letter she had gotten from her obsessed fan.

Stephanie again claimed she would be fine, as the fan was most likely harmless. She wanted to focus on properly reuniting with Alex. The two kissed and moved their reunion to the bed. Outside, the mystery stalker walked away, but not before inadvertently dropping a key card to Stephanie’s room on the floor.

Later, Stephanie and Alex basked in their afterglow. Alex got serious and confessed he had been thinking about the future. In five years, he saw himself married to Stephanie and starting a family. He asked if he was scaring her, but Stephanie confirmed she could easily picture herself in Alex’s arms in five years’ time. The couple returned to present circumstances and moved in for a passionate kiss.

Meanwhile, the stalker finished typing another message on Stephanie’s fan board. It read: “I’m so freakin’ in love with Anastasia Sands. She is even more beautiful than the women in her books. If only I could get rid of her loser boyfriend, she and I could finally be together.”
