At Alex and Stephanie’s apartment, Alex threw down the letter with the powdery substance in it. Stephanie and he beat a quick retreat for the door. Jada, who happened to be entering her apartment across the hall, stopped them and asked what had happened. When the couple explained the frightening situation, Jada said they could be dealing with a biological hazard and ushered Stephanie and Alex from the building.

At the Brady Pub, Steve and Kayla discussed the DiMera vanishing acts. Their talk turned to Stephanie, but Steve remained evasive about the reason why he was worried about his daughter. When he tried to reach Stephanie by phone, something alarmed him, so he told Kayla they needed to go.

Later, in Horton Town Square, Javi – donning a medical mask – examined Alex and Stephanie. He indicated that neither Alex nor Stephanie showed signs of an anthrax infection. He wanted to test the vials he had taken to be sure, though. Javi also informed the concerned couple that their building could be condemned if the tests came back positive for a biohazard. Jada, who was also on the scene, got a call about another case and said she had to leave. Javi gave her the go-ahead since she likewise had no visible infection, and Jada pledged she would return as soon as possible.

Around the same time, Steve and Kayla arrived. When Steve had tried to contact Stephanie, he had gotten a paramedic on the phone instead, who had apparently updated him about the incident with the letter. The couple had rushed over, concerned for their daughter. Stephanie assured them that she and Alex were fine physically. Alex and Steve immediately made mention of the disturbing letters Stephanie had been receiving, which piqued Kayla’s curiosity and raised her level of concern.

Steve and Stephanie summarized the onslaught of letters from the overzealous fan and apologized for keeping Kayla in the dark; Alex, in turn, apologized for not informing Stephanie of Steve’s investigation into the letters. All agreed they needed to keep apprised of the developments, especially since Holly had uncovered more letters that were devoid of fingerprints. Steve suggested the fan’s precautions could mean the person had a criminal history. Moreover, Alex could have been the intended target if the person wanted to get him out of the way so Stephanie would be available.

Later, Alex, Stephanie, Steve, and Kayla went back to the apartment after Javi told him that the letter had only contained powdered doughnut sugar. In a moment of levity, Alex realized that the letter had possibly come from an aunt who had likely been eating doughnuts when she had mailed the letter. The moment quickly dissipated, though, when Steve stressed the need to continue the investigation until they uncovered the identity of the obsessed fan.

At the DiMera mansion, Gwen searched the premises for EJ after finding his phone on the floor and his car still in the garage. Susan came into the main room and told an inquiring Gwen that she hadn’t seen her son in hours. Susan was worried because of the recent disappearances of the other DiMeras, and she had a bad feeling that something had gone awry. She took action by contacting the police and then doing her psychic meditation -- an endeavor which came up empty. Gwen, on the other hand, took action by pouring herself a drink and covertly erasing all the messages and contact information on EJ’s phone.

When Jada arrived, she took possession of the phone and immediately announced it had been completely wiped. She suggested EJ himself had erased it and insinuated EJ’s “kidnapping” had been a ruse, to Susan’s chagrin. Susan passionately defended her son and was presumably proven right when Jada also discovered a syringe lying on the floor. She pledged to find EJ. Before Jada left, she caused Gwen panic by commenting that the contents of EJ’s phone could quite possibly be recovered.

Susan, meanwhile, turned her ire to Gwen. Susan had a sneaking suspicion EJ’s housemate wasn’t being fully transparent.

In the DiMera crypt, EJ roused only to find the pile of bones right in his face. Startled, he jumped up and was greeted by his fellow captors, Chad and Theo. The duo quickly brought EJ up to speed on their location and on Tony and Kristen’s presence in a back area. EJ explained that no one had visited the crypt because he’d had the entrance sealed off after all the incidents that had transpired there. He scolded Chad and Theo for not being proper DiMeras and fighting back against their captors.

Chad defended their inaction and revealed that the mystery person had a gun. Also, all efforts to find an escape route had failed. The DiMera men briefly discussed the bones that had been discovered, but EJ believed Stefan’s disappearance had been too recent for the remains to have belonged to him. When Theo retired to the other part of the crypt to get some rest, Chad asked about the kids and the custody hearing. He was surprised and grateful to EJ after learning that the hearing had been postponed.

Chad’s gratitude soon turned to suspicion, however, as he recounted Kristen’s theory that EJ was responsible for the family’s predicament. EJ scoffed and claimed his present circumstances were proof of his innocence, but Chad mused that EJ had regained consciousness much more swiftly than the other captives. EJ bristled at the insinuation that he had staged his own kidnapping and Chad’s assertion that EJ was no victim. The brothers got more bad news when Theo rejoined them and revealed that Kristen had come down with a fever.
