What happened on Days of our Lives on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, when Rita took command, Rafe questioned Mark, and Leo refused to back down from Gwen.
What happened on Days of our Lives
Gwen paced the DiMera living room until Rita arrived. “Do you know where [EJ] might be?” Gwen asked. “I was on the phone with him earlier. He was just asking me to help with something, but he didn’t complete his request because all of a sudden, the call dropped,” Rita said. Rita added she had not been able to reach EJ since.
Rafe walked in, and he demanded the key to open the DiMera crypt. Rita explained that EJ had had the crypt sealed. Rafe ordered Rita to get the crypt open and call him. After Rafe left, Rita scoffed at the usefulness of the police. Rita stressed that she was loyal to the family and that Gwen would take orders from her until EJ’s return. Rita asked for EJ’s phone.
“I gave it to the police,” Gwen said. “You what?” Rita screamed. Gwen explained that she had wiped the phone before she had handed it over. “Well done!” Rita said. Rita asked who had tipped off the police about Rolf. Gwen said that EJ blamed Leo. Rita grumbled about Leo’s snooping. “I assure you, he did not tip off the police,” Gwen said. Gwen added that although Leo was innocent, if EJ insisted on going after him, she asked Rita to let her handle Leo instead.
Paulina stopped by Johnny and Chanel’s apartment to inform them that EJ had disappeared. “How the hell did this happen?” Johnny said. Paulina explained that EJ had rejected police protection, and his security detail had failed to keep him safe. Emotional, Johnny took Trey back to his room.
“As many times as I’ve wished that EJ was out of our lives, I didn’t mean for it to be like this,” Chanel told Paulina. When Johnny returned, he asked Paulina if she had any idea why his family had been targeted. “Motive is unknown,” Paulina said. “There is no way of knowing if my dad or the others are even alive,” Johnny said. Paulina reluctantly agreed. Johnny softened, and he asked Paulina to tell Abe that they were praying for Theo’s safe return.
After Paulina left, Chanel asked Johnny how he felt. Johnny admitted he had been thinking about his conversation with EJ about the DiMera CEO job offer. “What if that’s the last time I ever speak to him?” Johnny said. Johnny called Sami to tell her the news, and he promised that he had taken precautions. Johnny admitted to Chanel that he felt useless. “You are right where you are supposed to be right now, keeping yourself safe and me safe and most importantly, that baby boy of ours safe,” Chanel said.
Gabi was cooking in the Hernandez kitchen when Javi offered to help. Angry, Gabi said no. Gabi reminded Javi that she had given him a job, a home, and she had helped Leo design Javi’s wedding ring. “And how do you repay me? By running your mouth to Rafe, my own brother, telling him that I might have a motive to disappear Tony and Theo?” Gabi said. Javi started to protest, but a hurt Gabi interrupted to ask Javi if he believed she was capable of such a deed.
“I don’t think that!” Javi said. Gabi asked Javi why he had told Rafe. “People are missing and Rafe is investigating the case. Don’t you think he deserves to know?” Javi asked. Gabi argued that she was not a criminal. Javi said he did not believe that Gabi had kidnapped anyone. “This is about the fact that someone who I thought that I could confide in, I now have to wonder if he’s taking those private conversations and running off to my brother, an FBI agent,” Gabi said. Gabi asked Javi if she had told Leo as well. Leo walked into the kitchen.
“[Javi] did not say a word to me. But you know who just did? You,” Leo said. Javi asked Leo to pretend he had not heard anything. Leo agreed, but then he asked Gabi what she had done to help Tony regain DiMera. Leo promised not to tell anyone. “Like I haven’t heard that before,” Gabi muttered. Ari walked into the house, and she sensed the tension. “Leo and I were just leaving,” Javi said. Ari asked them to stay, but Javi and Leo walked out.
While Ari helped Gabi cook tamales, she told a funny story about school. Gabi nodded and forced a smile. “Not having Javi here just feels wrong,” Ari said. Gabi told Ari that she had done something stupid, and she was worried about the repercussions. “I hope that it’s okay,” Ari said. Gabi changed the subject to holiday plans, and she asked about the Titan internship. Ari told Gabi that there was no longer an internship since Titan was failing. When Ari told Gabi that Kate had offered to recommend her for an internship at DiMera, Gabi said, “Like hell she will.”
Ari argued that Gabi had succeeded DiMera. “I got lucky. But you have no idea what I went through living in that miserably depressing house with those disgusting degenerates,” Gabi said. Ari asked for details, but Gabi said she did not want to discuss it. Ari argued that the internship would look good on her resume. Gabi offered Ari an internship at Gabi Chic instead, but Ari refused to work for her mother. Gabi told Ari that she would never allow her daughter to work for DiMera.
In the square, Leo teased Javi about Gabi’s anger. “She’s a very forgiving person. So in a few weeks time, she’ll forget about this,” Javi said. “If I keep my mouth shut? Which I plan to,” Leo countered. Gwen interrupted, and she stressed that Leo needed to keep his mouth shut about the clinic. “You are very lucky that EJ disappeared before you were able to face the consequences of your incessant snooping,” Gwen said. Leo gasped.
“EJ’s disappeared?” Leo said. Javi asked Gwen about Leo’s consequences. Gwen reiterated that Leo needed to keep his mouth shut. Javi pressed Gwen for details about what EJ planned to do to Leo. Gwen said she did not know, but she asked Leo if his “cosplay” as a journalist was worth the risk. “What I am doing is important. It has meaning,” Leo protested. Leo refused to give up his investigation. “Fine. Then you ride your tsunami all the way to the afterlife,” Gwen said.
Concerned, Javi encouraged Leo not to do anything to endanger his life. Leo refused to die or give up on his investigation. “It is about Trey, it is about Chadwick, an entire family disappearing, and my former BFF and what she’s been up to,” Leo argued. Leo asked about Gwen’s argument with EJ at the gala. Gwen played dumb. “It had something to do with a delivery,” Leo said. Gwen stammered, but she could not manage a response. As Leo pushed for details, Gwen walked off.
At the hospital, Cat told Mark about EJ’s disappearance. “I know you’ve been cagey about whatever it is that you do for EJ in that lab, but sooner or later, the police are going to come knocking on your door asking a lot of questions,” Cat said. Cat asked Mark about his research for his own protection. “I’ll be fine,” Mark said.
When Rafe arrived at the hospital to meet with Cat, she told Rafe that she had talked to Mark about EJ’s disappearance. Cat said Mark did not seem to have any information. “We’ll see about that,” Rafe said. Cat wanted to join Rafe, but he refused.
Cat was talking to Stephanie about the PR response to EJ’s disappearance when Rita arrived at the hospital. Cat told Rita that she hoped EJ would be okay. “He can be tough, but he’s a good boss,” Cat said. Rita noted that EJ had survived a lot. “I wouldn’t worry about him,” Rita said. Cat promised to keep the office running in his absence. “I’ll let you know if I hear anything. I trust you’ll do the same,” Rita said. Cat agreed.
In the lab at the clinic, Rafe pounded on the door. “FBI! Open up!” Rafe shouted. Mark opened the door, and Rafe pushed past him into the lab. Rafe looked around the lab as he questioned Mark. Mark stressed that he was following all the rules for animal testing. Rafe noted, “I certainly hope so, because it would be a real shame for you to have to relive those cold mornings in a jail cell.” Rafe reminded Mark that lying to the FBI would be a parole violation.
“You see or hear anything, you let me know,” Rafe said. Rafe handed Mark his card. Rafe left, and he returned to the waiting area to talk to Cat. Rafe noted that Mark did not seem to know much. Cat warned Rafe that they needed to work together, or their mission would fail.
In the lab, Mark went through the secret passageway. Rolf was working in the secret room when Mark joined him and asked about EJ. Rolf said he did not know where to find any of the missing DIMeras. Mark complained about the heat from the FBI, and he demanded answers.
“You will tell me exactly what you are doing back here,” Mark said. “Once our animal research yields the desired outcome, our efforts can then move ahead,” Rolf said. Mark asked about the cryotube. Rolf refused to answer questions. “We must push forward and succeed, no matter what the cost,” Rolf said.

Rita visited Johnny at his home to ask him to run DiMera Enterprises on a temporary basis. “The answer is still no,” Johnny said. “Let’s see if we can turn that resounding no in to a resound yes,” Rita countered.
