On Christmas night, Marlena was overwhelmed with grief, and Roman comforted her. Kate had dinner with Philip and Lucas. Lucas refused to tell Kate about his new girlfriend. Kate told Lucas about Bonnie’s new book, and Lucas said he was afraid he might be in it. Roman took Marlena over to the pub to hang out with Kate and Lucas. At the mention of Black Patch, Marlena broke down. Kate frowned as she watched Roman comfort his ex-wife.

Alex made Adrienne’s lasagna for Christmas dinner for Stephanie and her parents. The foursome talked about suspects for the stalker, including Jeremy. Steve went home with Kayla for the night so that Stephanie could spend the night alone with Alex.

Tony asked Johnny to stay on as CEO of DiMera Enterprises because no one else wanted the job. Johnny agreed to stay until Theo recovered. Chanel was dismayed by Johnny’s decision, but Johnny promised that his focus would be on home. Johnny added that they needed the money for their growing family. Johnny confessed that he was terrified that Chanel’s cancer would return during the pregnancy, and that he would lose Chanel and the baby.

Chanel told Johnny that she was concerned that their family was not Johnny’s priority. Johnny admitted that he did not think they should go ahead with the pregnancy. Chanel argued that the baby was worth the risk to her life.

Tony reunited with Anna. A relieved Susan welcomed EJ home. EJ admitted that the ordeal had been a bonding experience with his siblings. Susan warned EJ not to trust Cat or Gwen. Gwen convinced EJ to back off of his plan to deal with Leo, if she could convince Leo to back off his investigation of EJ. Gwen explained that she had her own plans for revenge on Leo. Leo and Javi invited Gwen to the wedding, and she accepted.

Kate asked Xander to work with her to save Titan. Xander was hesitant to go behind Maggie’s back. Kate argued that she and Xander were fighters, and she pitched a plan to use Johnny’s inexperience to Titan’s advantage. After Kate assured Xander that her plan was not illegal, he agreed to it.

Rafe told Gabi that Stefan was dead. Gabi did not believe it was true. Rafe promised to independently confirm the death, but he showed Gabi a photo of Stefan’s headstone. Vivian said Stefano’s heart had given out. Gabi reluctantly accepted that Stefan might be gone. Gabi confessed to Philip that she was devastated by the news, and he comforted her.

Gabi told Gwen that she had not completed Gwen’s dress because she had been grief-stricken over Stefan. Gwen was shaken by the news that Jake’s heart had given out. Upset, Gwen decided to move forward on a plan without EJ’s permission.

Belle asked EJ to sign a form for the court that approved of sending Rachel to mental health treatment instead of the juvenile justice system. EJ told Belle that she deserved someone better than him. Brady hired Melinda to handle Kristen’s legal issues. Belle gave EJ’s signed form to Melinda to start the proceedings to free Kristen from prison.

Sophia told Rachel about her plan to run away as soon as she handled some unfinished business. Melinda visited Sophia, and she told her that she missed her. Melinda hugged Sophia.

EJ, Tony, and Chad discussed Peter’s fate. Tony and Chad told Kristen that she and Peter were their family, and they supported her. Kristen argued that Peter would want to die with dignity, and they should give Peter the chance to breathe on his own. The siblings agreed to remove life support. Kristen urged an unconscious Peter to fight to survive.

Cat and Chad had an awkward run-in at the hospital. EJ apologized to Cat about his pass at her, and Cat said she was fine. Cat asked to reschedule their dinner together. After Sydney heard about EJ’s kidnapping, she had a series of panic attacks. EJ agreed to visit her for New Year’s Eve. Before EJ left town, he hired Melinda to handle Chad’s custody case.

Ari talked to Marlena about her inability to forgive Leo. Marlena explained that she understood Ari’s anger, but that she had learned to forgive Leo. Lucas advised Ari to let go of her anger toward Leo for her own sake.

On New Year’s Eve, Alex, Stephanie, Steve, and Kayla went to the Bistro. With Steve and Kayla’s blessing, Alex proposed to Stephanie. Stephanie said yes.

Leo had wedding day jitters, and he confided to Marlena that he was terrified of hurting Javi like he had hurt everyone else. Marlena admitted she had been nervous every time she married John, and that calmed Leo. Gabi gave Javi something old, new, borrowed and blue, and Rafe gave Javi thirteen gold coins for the las arras wedding tradition.

Javi was disappointed that Trey could not attend the wedding, but Leo said he felt like Trey was with them in their hearts. Marlena conducted the ceremony, and Leo and Javi said their vows. After the newlyweds signed their wedding certificate, they walked arm in arm through the square. Before the grooms could meet up with the photographer for pictures, Dimitri intercepted them.
