Days of our Lives Recap, December 4: Cat took advantage of EJ's memories

Cat stopped by the DiMera mansion to tell EJ how worried she was about Chad. She was sure something had happened to him. EJ informed Cat that Chad had reached out to her. He said he was okay, but Cat found it odd that he didn't acknowledge his custody hearing with Jennifer. "Why do I get the feeling you don't believe me?" an angry EJ asked.

Cat stressed how much she cared about Chad and was just worried about him. EJ apologized for being insensitive. Cat admitted that Chad had hurt her. "It's like I gave him my heart and he pinched it to death," she said.

That prompted EJ to remember hearing Cat's voice reading him that line from Wuthering Heights. "Oh my God! It was you. I recognized your voice. You were the woman with me in Italy," EJ said. Cat played dumb, but EJ was floored and explained how he came to the conclusion that he knew Cat. "That's not possible," Cat said.

She claimed she barely had any memories from after her accident. She claimed to know she had been in Italy. "You don't think I was put in a facility where you were?" she asked. EJ was sure that was what had happened. "Cat, that explains so much. Why I have been so drawn to you ever since I found out you weren't Abigail," he said. "I felt this need to look out for you because you once looked out for me. You and I must have had a connection. A very real one."

When EJ suggested they have dinner that night, Cat suggested they eat in. It was clear that Cat was up to something.

Holly spotted Tate walking through Horton Town Square and asked him how his visit with Rachel had gone. When he hesitated to answer, Holly grabbed him into an embrace and told him she was there for him.

Holly suggested that she accompany Tate the next time he visited Rachel. Tate said it wasn't a good idea because of Sophia. "She was with Rachel," Tate told her. He worried Holly would have to run into Sophia if she visited Rachel with him.

Suddenly, Holly got a text with their grades. She had earned an A+ in film. Tate didn't want to tell her he only got a C+. Holly then ran off to go through Stephanie's fan mail.

In Rachel's Bayview room, Sophia composed herself as Rachel told her that Johnny and Chanel had adopted her baby. "Johnny is my cousin. He's great," Rachel enthused. Sophia pretended she was fine with it before reiterating to Rachel that she didn't want Tate to know she could talk.

"I can't trust that he won't go tell anyone. But you, Rachel, I feel like I can trust you," Sophia told a puzzled Rachel. "But what if I can't trust you?" Rachel asked. Sophia insisted she could trust her.

"But you lied to my brother about your baby. How do I know that you're not still lying?" Rachel asked. Sophia claimed she wasn't lying because she had believed Tate was the father. "I wasn't trying to hurt anyone. I swear," Sophia said. Rachel decided to believe Sophia.

"My teacher always blames stuff on me that wasn't my fault, and I don't like that either. I'm not a bad girl," Rachel insisted. Sophia agreed, saying, "Neither of us are bad. We're just misunderstood. That makes us kindred spirits."

Sophia explained that she wanted Rachel and her to help one another while they were in Bayview. She told her all about her group and one-on-one therapy worked. She advised Rachel to be careful about what she said in one-on-one therapy, or the doctors could keep her there and charge her family more money.

Rachel knew all about that. "I've been in therapy for a long time. I was dodging my Grandma Marlena's questions since the third grade," she said. Rachel was not happy to hear that she couldn't use her phone, but Sophia told her how to score extra dessert.

Johnny and Chanel walked through the square with the baby, discussing work. Chanel wanted Johnny to take it easy just as she was. "Between our family and Sweet Bits, I'm spreading myself too thin," Chanel said. She was trying to think of a way to cut back without it cutting into their bottom line.

Johnny suggested going to EJ about getting access to his trust fund sooner. "Absolutely not," Chanel said. "You know if you ask him for any help, he is going to use it as an excuse to worm his way back into our lives." Johnny agreed with Chanel and promised to find a way to make their new family dynamic work.

They soon ran into Tate, who told them he was glad everything had worked out with the adoption. He also updated them on Sophia's condition. Johnny was sorry about Rachel's situation. "My heart really goes out to her," Chanel said. When Chanel went for a walk, Tate discussed his grade with Johnny.

"That C- you got was generous at best," Johnny admitted. He pointed out that Tate had missed multiple assignments, but was willing to give him extra time to turn them in. However, he suggested that Johnny focus on the classes he was failing because late assignments wouldn't bring his grade up by much.

Alex was alarmed when Stephanie started decorating for Christmas rather than packing for her book tour. He suggested they decorate together when she got back. Steve soon stopped by to see Stephanie off.

Stephanie didn't think any of this was a big deal as she was only going to Chicago. He even offered to take Stephanie to the airport. Stephanie said her goodbyes to Alex and told him that she loved him.

Later, Steve returned and told Alex he sent the weird fan mail that Stephanie got to a handwriting analyst. The person analyzed the writer's character and deduced that the writer was emotionally unstable. Both men grew more alarmed when Holly dropped by with more disturbing letters. Steve asked Holly to bring any other red flag letters to him.
