At the Horton house, Thomas helped Jeremy pack his car to leave town. Jeremy admitted that he did not know if he would return to town. “I’m gonna miss you, Jeremy,” Thomas said. Jeremy said he would miss Thomas, too, before handing Thomas his class assignments so that he could keep up during his break.

Julie walked in with containers full of cookies for Jeremy and Thomas. “Are you sad we’re all leaving?” Thomas asked. Julie said yes, but that she would be fine as long as Thomas sent photos of his trip to her.

Alex and Stephanie spent Valentine’s Day evening in the honeymoon suite of the Salem Inn. After Alex and Stephanie made love, Alex told her that he had dinner reservations at the Bistro. “That’s where my parents are having their anniversary dinner,” Stephanie said. Alex suggested room service instead, but Stephanie insisted on joining her parents to tell them the news.

“My parents are hopeless romantics. They’ll understand,” Stephanie said. With a sigh, Stephanie noted that if they went out in public, they could not let anyone know that they had already gotten married. “Not if we want to find my stalker,” Stephanie said. Alex reminded her that they only needed to pretend for one night. “We tell our families and no one else. But we’ll know. That’s all that matters,” Alex said.

At the Bistro, Steve and Kayla said how grateful they were for one another, and they reminisced about a past Valentine’s Day wedding. Steve apologized for spending so much time at his job, but Kayla told him that she was thankful that he was protecting their daughter.

Steve confirmed that the sting operation at the courthouse was set for the next day. “And you’re gonna catch Jeremy or whoever shows up, right?” Kayla said. Steve nodded yes. Kayla admitted that although she did not like Jeremy, she found it hard to believe that he wanted to kill anyone.

“And Julie insists that he has changed. I tell you, if he is the stalker, it is going to break Julie’s heart,” Kayla said. Steve noted that he did not want to hurt Julie, but all the evidence pointed to Jeremy. “If it isn’t Jeremy, then we have no idea who it is, which can be an even bigger problem,” Steve said.

Jack and Jennifer walked into the Bistro. Steve and Kayla greeted them and invited them to join their table. Over dessert, Jennifer asked Kayla if she could check on Julie while Chad was out of town. “I know Eli and Lani are moving back in soon, but with us going to Boston and Jeremy heading back to New York,” Jennifer said with a shrug. “He’s leaving soon?” Steve asked. Jennifer noted that things had been difficult for Jeremy and that he had been “run out of town.”

“Nobody’s running him out of town. In fact, the police asked him not to leave,” Steve said. Jennifer argued that Jeremy had been detained by the police without cause. “Jennifer, [Jeremy] has given us plenty of reason to suspect,” Steve started. Jennifer interrupted to counter that Jeremy had been falsely accused. Jack noted that he understood that Steve and Kayla only wanted to keep their daughter safe.

“I understand you wanting to protect your daughter. It’s just awful what that maniac has put Stephanie through. But I just want the right person punished for it,” Jennifer said. Kayla agreed. Kayla explained that they had been working with the police department to follow the rules and due process. With a nod, Jennifer toasted to hoping the situation would be over soon.

“And now we’re going to leave you the rest of the night to celebrate your anniversary,” Jack added. Jennifer asked Kayla to send Stephanie her love. As Jennifer started to note that she and Jack understood what it was like to experience a threat to their daughter, Jennifer teared up. Everyone at the table expressed their love for one another and then said goodbye.

After Jack and Jennifer left, Steve lamented that he had upset Jennifer. “I think she understands where we’re coming from,” Kayla said. As Steve and Kayla resumed their anniversary dinner, Kayla gifted Steve with language lessons so that he could learn some Chinese before Tripp and Wendy’s wedding. Steve admitted he had already started lessons, and he told Kayla that he loved her in Chinese.

In the square, Jack and Jennifer ran into Jeremy. “I am so sorry that things didn’t work out the way that you hoped here,” Jennifer said. Jennifer told Jeremy that his family believed in him and that Thomas adored him. Jack invited Jeremy to visit them in Boston, and they wished Jeremy well in New York. After Jeremy walked away, Jack noted that he was eager to spend time alone with Jennifer. With a grin, Jennifer reminded Jack that she had proposed to him on Valentine’s Day in a Santa suit.

Chad visited Abigail’s grave on Valentine’s night to deliver flowers. Chad talked about the kids and how much they reminded him of Abigail. “I’m trying to do right by them and by you. And sometimes I feel like I’m doing a pretty good job, and then other times I just feel like I’m just trying. I can’t tell you how often I find myself thinking if Abby were here, she would know what to do,” Chad said. Chad talked about his planned trip with the kids.

“We’re gonna reset and regroup as a family. I don’t know if that is what you would have done, but I think that’s what we need,” Chad said. Chad told Abigail that he missed her every day. “But I know that I will take a piece of you and Salem, everywhere I go. I love you with my whole heart. Our love really was a once in a lifetime kind of love, wasn’t it?” Chad placed a candy heart on the headstone, and he said, “Goodbye for now.”

When Chad returned home, Thomas was sitting alone on the couch with his Valentine’s Day candy and cards. Thomas asked Chad if he was sad. “Because you told me you get sad sometimes on holidays,” Thomas said. Chad smiled. “You really are such a smart and sensitive young man, you know that? Your mother would be very proud,” Chad said. Chad admitted he was sad. Thomas said he thought Julie was sad too.

“Doug was her Valentine for a lot of years. But it’s not just sad though. Holidays can make you happy, because you think of all the good times you had together,” Chad noted. Thomas told Chad that he remembered the candy hearts that Abigail used to give them. Chad pulled a box out of his coat pocket.

While Thomas went upstairs to finish packing, Julie told Chad that it warmed her heart to see Thomas excited about spending time with his father. “You’re going to see the most beautiful parts of America, and they’ll never get over having this time with their father. It’s gonna be great,” Julie said. Julie told Chad she would miss them.

“I want to thank you for being so good to me and my kids. You opened up your home and your heart to us,” Chad said. “As Grandma and Grandpa Horton would say, always,” Julie countered. Chad said that despite the grief in the house, it was also full of love. “It was one of the only reasons I was able to get through losing Abby,” Chad confessed. Julie told Chad that he and the kids had helped her get through losing Doug. “You’re my family, always,” Julie said.

As Julie and Chad hugged, Jack and Jennifer returned home. Jack wished Chad a great trip with the kids. “I know you said that you wanted to go on this trip to feel like you are a family again, and I have really been praying for that for you,” Jennifer said. Chad said thank you. “I know this has been a terrible year, and I just hate to think that we contributed to that,” Jack said. Chad noted that no matter what had happened, they were family. Chad added that they were bonded by their love for Abigail and the kids.

“And I can’t wait until we’re all together again,” Julie said. As Julie headed upstairs with the kids to prepare for bedtime, Chad told Jack and Jennifer that he had stopped by Abigail’s gravesite. “She would have loved that,” Jack said. Jennifer teared up. “I feel like we should be leaving together, but we’re going in opposite directions,” Jennifer told Chad. Chad hugged his in-laws goodbye. After Jack and Jennifer went upstairs, Chad hugged his wedding photo, and he looked around the living room one last time.

As Jeremy walked through the square, he saw Alex and Stephanie laughing as they walked into the Bistro together. Jeremy sat in the cafe, and he wrote a letter to Stephanie. Jeremy explained that he wished Stephanie had gotten to know him, so that she would understand he was not her stalker. “But that’s okay. I intend to prove it to you,” Jeremy wrote.

In the Bistro, Steve was surprised to see Stephanie and Alex without Jada. Stephanie explained that Jada was out on a date, but she had made other arrangements for their security. Stephanie told Steve and Kayla that she and Alex had eloped in Chicago. Stephanie assured Kayla that they still planned to have a wedding later. Steve suggested they quietly celebrate over a bottle of Champagne.
