At the DiMera mansion, EJ and Cat were talking when Rafe walked in. Rafe told EJ that the bones in the crypt were confirmed to be the bones of Stefano DiMera. Cat gave EJ her condolences.

“He was the Phoenix. You could never really rule out that he would rise again,” EJ said as he glanced over at Stefano’s portrait. A glum Kristen marched into the room. EJ told her the news, and she laughed. “So I killed Peter with Father’s femur?” Kristen said. After a moment, Kristen’s laughter turned to sobs.

When Kristen calmed, she noted that it was fitting that Stefano had been the cause of Peter’s death. “Actually, it was a long and slow death that started when Father took Peter and me when we were children,” Kristen said. “But you loved him,” EJ said. Kristen agreed. Kristen added that with time, she had been able to see clearly how much damage Stefano had done to his family.

“And the love that I had for him, it’s gone. Completely. I detest him now. As I do you. With every fiber of my body,” Kristen said. Kristen told EJ that she was moving out. After Kristen walked out, Rafe asked EJ if he knew how Stefano’s bones had ended up in the crypt. “No. But I suspect you do, Agent Hernandez. Since you were the last one to see him alive,” EJ said. EJ recounted how Rafe had helped Hope cover up her murder of Stefano. “It wasn’t murder,” Rafe said. “It wasn’t murder because he wasn’t actually dead,” EJ said. EJ argued that Stefano had gone into hiding after to avoid the “deranged” residents of Salem.

“Stefano DiMera was an evil son-of-a-bitch who did not give a damn about whose lives he ruined. He didn’t have a heart or a conscience,” Rafe said. EJ warned Rafe not to speak ill of his dead father. “You’re right. We shouldn’t speak ill of the dead, even if the world is so much better without them,” Rafe countered. “Go to hell,” EJ said as he walked out of the room.

Cat noted that EJ had seemed genuinely upset. Rafe noted that Stefano was far too old to be alive and that EJ should not have been surprised by the news. “Not to mention that Stefano and his children had a relationship that’s about as toxic as it gets,” Rafe added. “He loved the guy though, right?” Cat asked. With a shrug, Rafe warned Cat not to feel sorry for EJ. “This might be a vulnerability that we can use to our advantage,” Cat said.

As Rafe and Cat started to leave, they ran into Chad. Cat confirmed that EJ had left the house. Chad said EJ had called him about Stefano. Kristen returned from upstairs with her packed bags. “You heard about father?” Kristen asked. “I did. Are we sure it’s true this time?” Chad asked. Rafe said they had thoroughly checked the DNA against Stefano’s sample, and his kids’. “I’m sorry,” Cat said.

With an arched eyebrow, Kristen asked Cat why she had not left the mansion. “I was catching EJ on what he missed while he was away. And now that he’s gone, I should go too,” Cat said. Chat offered to walk Cat out. Chad looked at Stefano’s portrait, then he followed Cat to the front porch. Cat told Chad that she hoped the mediation had gone well, and Chad confirmed that he got to keep his kids. “I also had to put in writing that you and I can never,” Chad said. Cat nodded yes. Cat smiled sadly at Chad, and she left.

In the DiMera living room, Rafe said he felt for Kristen after all that she had been through the past few weeks. “And my daughter is still locked up,” Kristen said. Kristen sniffled, and she asked Rafe what he wanted. Rafe asked about Dr. Rolf. “I haven’t seen him in a while,” Kristen said. Kristen asked Rafe if he had thought about her offer to help take down EJ.

At the hospital, Johnny and Chanel ran into Paulina by the nurses’ station. Chanel confirmed that both she and the baby were healthy. “Does this mean that we can finally start sharing the good news?” Paulina asked. Chanel told Paulina that she was welcome to spread the word to family and close friends. When Paulina asked about the gender, Chanel explained that she and Johnny wanted to wait.

While Johnny stepped away to visit Theo, Paulina and Chanel talked about Johnny’s change of mood. “I told you, Mama, it wasn’t that he didn’t ever want the baby. He was just scared,” Chanel said. “I’m just happy that he is finally letting himself feel the joy,” Paulina countered.

In Theo’s hospital room, Chad visited Theo. Theo asked about the custody case. “I’m no longer in danger of losing my kids, that’s all that matters,” Chad said. Theo told Chad he was sorry that his personal life was messy. “It’s all right. The kids are going to stay with me. I got what I want,” Chad said. EJ called Chad’s phone to tell him the news about Stefano’s bones. After Chad ended his call, he lied and said that EJ had called to tell him he was back in Salem. Chad told Theo to rest and get better.

After Chad left, Johnny arrived with apricot scones for Theo. Johnny asked Theo for advice about a manuscript he had received that had been rejected by Titan. “If you think the book’s gonna sell and our editors like it, I say go for it,” Theo advised. Johnny told Theo to focus on his recovery and leave the job to him.

Johnny rejoined Chanel and Paulina to say goodbye, then he left for work. “You two seem really good,” Paulina said. Chanel smiled. When Paulina asked about Chanel’s workload, Chanel noted that they hoped to hire help. “How long is Johnny planning on staying CEO?” Paulina asked. “Just until Theo is ready to step back in,” Chanel said. Paulina reminded Chanel that she and Abe were available to babysit any time. Chanel asked Paulina to focus on her job instead.

“Why is Kristen DiMera still out of prison?” Chanel asked. Chanel argued that Kristen had shot EJ. Paulina averted her eyes and noted that everything would be cleared up. “[Kristen] was about to let Johnny go to prison for a crime that she committed,” Chanel argued. Paulina asked Chanel to trust her that justice would be served.

At DiMera Enterprises, Johnny was working in Theo’s office when Chad stopped by to tell him that EJ was back in Salem and that Sydney was doing better. Chad told Johnny that the bones in the crypt had been Stefano's. Chad admitted that he had a mix of emotions about his father. “It’s just such an undignified end for him,” Johnny said. Chad agreed. Johnny said he wanted to rectify the issue.

Abe met with Liam at the bookstore for their reading lesson. After Liam completed a passage, Abe said, “Well, one. Your reading has really improved.” Liam noted that when he had been able to read a bedtime story to his child, it had made him realize that he wanted to learn how to read better. Abe asked if Gage’s mother read to him. “No, his mom OD’d a couple years ago,” Liam said. Liam talked about how Gage had struggled after his mother’s death.

“I’ll never forget your kindness. Lending me money so I could buy food for him. I promise I’ll pay you back,” Liam said. “You’ve already paid me back, Liam. Continuing to show up here and being a good dad to your son. I’m very proud of you,” Abe said. Abe noticed the cut on Liam’s hand, and he pushed Liam to be honest with him.

“I’m trying [to get out of the life]. I really am,” Liam said. “I know you are. But I just want you to be safe,” Abe said. Abe offered to help, but Liam declined. Liam thanked Abe for helping him change his life. As Liam said goodbye, Abe took a call from Theo. “I am being released from the hospital today,” Theo said.

At Cat’s apartment, she used her laptop to trace a payment from Peter’s account. Cat called Andrew. Cat told Andrew that Liam Silejko was the man that Peter had hired to kidnap the DiMeras.

Dr. Rolf was working in the lab when EJ burst through the door. “What the hell did you do to my father?” EJ yelled. EJ told Rolf that the bones in the crypt were confirmed to be Stefano's. Rolf said he thought the bones had been in the sarcophagus, which had been removed.

“But how did they end up there in the first place?” EJ asked. Rolf explained that when he had left Salem with Stefano, they had gone to an island. While Rolf had been away researching a way to reverse Stefano’s aging, Stefano had died on the island. “There was nothing left to revive,” Rolf said. Rolf explained that he had put Stefano’s bones in the sarcophagus to hide his body from his enemies. Rolf said he did not know how the bones had ended up buried in the dirt of the crypt.

EJ stared at the cryotube in the lab. “A part of me wishes that could be Father in there. And a part of me is glad I’ll never see him again,” EJ said. EJ asked Rolf if he was prepared to start the human trial. “It will require 24-hour monitoring from this point forward,” Rolf said. EJ asked Rolf if he was hopeful. “I am very optimistic that she will open her eyes again soon,” Rolf said.
