Marlena met up with Kate at the Kiriakis mansion to pitch her original plan to team up and run Basic Black. Kate declined, explaining that thanks to her scheme to extort Johnny, EJ had taken measures to destroy Titan, so she blamed herself. Marlena argued that there were a lot of factors that had contributed to Titan’s downfall. Kate asked Marlena why she was being so generous with her.

Marlena noted that they had been friends for a long time, and she knew that Kate’s mistake had taken a lot from her. “It’s already cost me the man that I love,” Kate said. Kate opened up to Marlena about how isolated she felt by her actions. Marlena argued that Kate was a fighter and needed to stop beating herself up. Marlena said she believed Roman and Kate would reunite because they loved one another. Kate said that she was grateful for Marlena’s forgiveness. Marlena told Kate that her offer to run the company together would remain open.

After Kate’s meeting, she went to the pub to talk to Roman. Roman was focused on the lunch rush, so Kate offered to help out. Roman sternly said no. When Roman noted that he should have expected that Kate would turn back into the woman she used to be with Victor and Stefano, Kate correctly noted that she had always been the same woman. Kate added that she was also the same person who had waited on Roman in a diner with Fay long ago. Kate admitted that she had crushed on Roman even then.

Kate argued that they were soulmates, and she vowed to fight for Roman. Kate apologized again for her mistake. Kate said she would give up everything for him, but Roman noted that she did not have a choice. Roman admitted that he still loved Kate, but that he needed to learn to like her again.

Marlena went to the DiMera mansion to talk to EJ about the concerns of various people. When EJ asked for names, Marlena listed Gwen, Lexie, Kristen, and the staff at Titan. When EJ argued that he needed to protect his family, Marlena countered that his actions were hurting his family. Marlena told EJ that she knew Lexie was dying. Defensive, EJ argued that he had wanted to save his sister.

Marlena urged EJ to back off of Titan and asked him to stop asking Johnny to do his “dirty work.” Alarmed, EJ asked Marlena what Johnny had told her. “Nothing. But your answer tells me everything,” Marlena said. Marlena argued that she did not believe that Johnny or EJ wanted to follow in Stefano’s footsteps. “I have a legacy to uphold,” EJ said. Marlena reminded EJ that he had a good side to him. EJ fondled Stefano’s ring and stressed that he was only protecting his family.

The Plot Thickens

When Brady arrived, they chatted about Rachel’s and Holly as Brady worked out. Tate admitted that Holly had refused to speak with him since he had confronted her about the pills. Brady advised Tate to give Holly some space until she was ready to talk.

Tate texted Gwen to check on her, and he told Brady that Gwen had been a no show. Brady told Tate that Gwen had not been heard from by anyone within the last 24 hours. When Brady mentioned the missing phone, Tate argued that Gwen was definitely in trouble because she would have shown up for her training session.

By the nurses’ station, Xander told Sarah that he believed EJ had planted the pills in Holly’s bag. Confused, Sarah wondered aloud why EJ would hurt Holly when he loved her. Xander argued that the possibility that the Coriseal poisoning could send EJ to prison and his family business into bankruptcy was enough motivation. Sarah told Xander about Steve’s testimony from local pharmacists about a dropoff in the supply of Coriseal two years ago. Sarah lamented that she had fallen for EJ’s misdirection and not believed Holly.

“God, to have somebody that’s supposed to love you just completely lose faith in you,” Sarah said. “It’s the worst feeling in the world,” Xander whispered. Sarah argued that she should have known that after everything Holly had been through, she would not have started using drugs again. Xander warned Sarah not to tell anyone outside their small circle about their theory until they found proof. Sarah told Xander that she was grateful that he was there for her.

EJ visited Holly in the hospital to tell her that he believed Amy would drop her lawsuit. Holly told EJ that he was the only one who had stood by her. “Sometimes the people who love you the most hurt you the most,” EJ said. EJ encouraged Holly to call him in the future if she ever needed help.

Sarah walked in, and EJ smirked at her. Holly announced that EJ had convinced Amy to drop her lawsuit. “You’re really going above and beyond for Holly,” Sarah said. EJ said he cared about Holly.

Sarah told EJ to leave, so he reluctantly did. Furious, Holly yelled at Sarah after EJ left. Sarah apologized for having not believed Holly. Sarah told Holly that she believed that someone had planted the pills, and that they would get to the bottom of it for Holly’s sake. Holly told Sarah that she understood why she had not believed her, and that she forgave her.

Forgiveness

When Tate and Brady arrived at the hospital, they were talking about Gwen’s disappearance. Xander asked Brady about Gwen. Brady explained that he and Steve believed that Gwen had been kidnapped by EJ. Xander told Brady about his theory about the planted pills. Brady growled that he would kill EJ. Xander cautioned Brady to calm down and focus on finding the evidence to take down EJ. When Brady told Tate that they believed the pills had been planted, Tate beat himself up for having not believed Holly.

Tate apologized to Holly. Holly told Tate that she was furious that someone had made her loved ones question her innocence. Tate asked for forgiveness. Holly said she believed they would be okay. With a grin, Holly told Tate that EJ believed he could get Amy to drop the lawsuit.

Sarah returned to the nurses’ station, and she informed Brady and Xander that Holly had forgiven her. Sarah noted that EJ had been in the room, but she had been careful not to let him know that they were on to him. “As Victor always said, never underestimate the power of a common enemy,” Xander said.

Are you glad Kate and Roman are making amends? Who should be the one to bring down EJ? Sound off in the comments.
