Days of our Lives Recap July 30: Stephanie Goes Off as Joy Declares War

On the Thursday, July 30, 2026, episode of Days of our Lives, Stephanie made a big mistake, Rachel wanted her mother, and Gabi saved the day.

Alex Delivers Bad News

Alex arrived home to inform Stephanie that the custody meeting with Joy and Justin did not go as smoothly as he'd expected. Joy refused to sign the papers unless the agreement stipulated that Alex could never visit Kelsey with his wife present until Kelsey was 18.

Alex assured Stephanie that he had no intention of signing the agreement, but Stephanie knew he had to sign something. She also found Joy's demands to be cruel. "Joy could pick up and leave at any minute, and she can take Kelsey with her," Stephanie said.

Alex wanted to just be patient with Joy, but Stephanie worried that she might never change her mind. They also worried that Joy wouldn't let Alex see Kelsey at all unless he signed the agreement with her terms. Stephanie just blamed herself, although Alex told her not to. "Joy is punishing you because of what I did," Stephanie said.

Alex insisted that things were just messy and was sure that Joy would come around. "She will see that having you in Kelsey's life is only going to make that little girl's life better," Alex said.

Soon, Alex left for the office. Stephanie then turned around and called Roman to see if Joy was at the pub. She listened to his answer and said she'd be right over.

Celebration Time

At the Brady Pub, Marlena, Brady, Tate, and Rachel celebrated Rachel's release from Bayview with milkshakes. Chad and Belle soon arrived with a gift for a thrilled Rachel. However, she wondered where her mother was. Brady and Marlena assured her that Kristen would be coming and was likely stuck in traffic.

When Belle and Chad suggested that Rachel open their gift, Rachel found it odd that they bought her a gift together. She was shocked to learn that her aunt and uncle were dating.

When Joy walked in with Kelsey, Belle excused herself to meet the baby. Joy admitted she had planned to call Belle because she needed a lawyer. Joy started to explain what had happened at her meeting with Justin and Alex when Tate and Rachel came along. Rachel awkwardly mentioned that Tate had once thought he had a baby, but it turned out not to be his.

After Rachel and Tate returned to their table, Joy finished telling her story. Belle was surprised to hear that Alex refused to sign the papers unless Stephanie was also allowed to see Kelsey. Joy insisted she never wanted Kelsey present. When Tate overheard this, he piped in and said that Joy couldn't do that.

"When you start using a kid to manipulate someone, it doesn't work out for anybody," Tate told Joy.

Belle asked Joy to take the conversation outside. Inside, Marlena took Brady aside as they expressed their fears that something had happened to Kristen. They couldn't imagine that she would miss Rachel's homecoming. Brady told Marlena about Kristen's last visit to Bayview and how sad and emotional she had been. Marlena wondered if Kristen was saying goodbye to them.

Stephanie Puts Her Foot In It

Outside, Belle tried to go to bat for Stephanie, telling her the gun incident came from a PTSD moment. Joy didn't think that excused Stephanie's poor judgment with a firearm. Belle tried to assure Joy that Kelsey would be safe in Stephanie's care. After Belle went back inside, Joy sat down on a bench to think about things.

Joy was still on the bench when Stephanie found her. Joy agreed to listen, so Stephanie launched into a speech about how hard it would be for Alex to have a real relationship with his daughter through the years if Stephanie could never be around. "Alex and I are married. We're a package deal," she said.

When Joy explained that she knew Stephanie was sorry, but she could never be sure when Stephanie might snap again, her rival's face changed. Stephanie believed that Joy was using the situation to come between her and Alex. "Because you want him for yourself, don't you?" she asked.

Joy turned the tables and denied the accusation, telling Stephanie that she was acting unstable. Stephanie made things worse by calling Joy neurotic and then going completely off, telling Joy that she keeps "doubling down on insane demands."

Joy told Stephanie that she was thinking of giving in to Alex, but now after this talk, she realized that her instincts had been correct. "Now I know that you're as mean and unhinged as I thought you were and I am never letting you near my baby," Joy said.

Inside the pub, Rachel was disappointed when Kristen texted that she had gone to Aremid to take care of Rachel Sr. Marlena and Brady didn't buy it, but they let it go. Marlena then questioned Belle and Chad about their trip to Italy and knew they were keeping something from her.

Belle and Chad finally explained that they were headed to Italy to investigate Stefano's chess set. Marlena was not happy, but was certainly intrigued when Belle told her that the chess set was missing its pawn. However, she could not condone this investigation and trip. They promised to be safe, but Marlena knew she couldn't stop them.

Gabi's Good News

Philip tried but failed to negotiate a bridge loan over the phone before Gabi arrived with news. Gabi admitted that she may have jumped to conclusions when she accused Titan of knocking off her Gabi Chic handbags. Gabi explained that Ari had left a prototype handbag on her desk at DiMera and that's how she thinks the company got her design.

Philip was still smarting over Gabi accusing him of stealing from him without any actual evidence. Gabi tried to apologize for jumping to conclusions. Now that Gabi believed him, Philip wanted to know what that meant going forward. Gabi announced that she was still going to give Titan the money to pay off its loan.

"The funds will be reaching your bank account by tomorrow morning, so plenty of time to make your loan payment," Gabi said. Philip was overcome with emotion and couldn't thank Gabi enough for her help. He grabbed Gabi and hugged her, much to Gabi's surprise. The pair then fell into a passionate kiss.

Alex was stunned and amused when he walked in on Gabi and Philip's intimate moment, but thrilled when Philip told him Gabi's news. He also hugged Gabi, which Philip didn't like. When Gabi left, she winked at Philip. Once alone, Philip did an odd happy dance that confused Alex. He questioned Philip about the kiss. Philip claimed it was just "one of those things."
