In today’s Days of our Lives recap for July 8, 2026, Tate added unofficial counselor to his credentials, Sarah and Brady’s suspicions grew, Gabi got a nasty surprise, and Alex and Stephanie commiserated about their marital woes – just not with each other.

Love Is a Battlefield

At Tate’s training gym, Gwen arrived while Tate was mid-workout. She thanked him for the work he’d done with her so far, as it had come in handy during the “scrap” she’d had earlier. A surprised Tate asked if Gwen had gotten into a fight, which gave her the opening to tell him all about her tangle with Kristen. As Tate and she began training, Gwen launched into a tirade about how Kristen, one of her only friends, had broken the “girl code” and betrayed her with Xander. Kristen had known Gwen wanted more than a “situationship” with Xander, but she hadn’t cared; it had been the latest in a lifetime of betrayals for Gwen.

While Tate didn’t approve of Gwen’s extreme reaction, he acknowledged that Gwen didn’t deserve to be hurt by someone she trusted. He wondered why Gwen didn’t seem to have the same fire for Xander, since he’d betrayed her as well. Gwen assured Tate she was plenty angry at Xander, but he had been up-front from the beginning about their no-strings trysts. She ultimately only had herself to blame for expecting more. Tate took Gwen to the punching bag and encouraged her to beat up on it rather than herself, and she in turn expressed her gratitude for the “free therapy session.”

Who Shot EJ, The Sequel?

At the DiMera mansion, Brady stopped by to confirm for Kristen that Rachel would be released soon. They agreed their daughter should stay with him for the time being, because of EJ. Brady again challenged Kristen on whether EJ truly posed a threat, or whether he had simply been extending an olive branch to Rachel with his visit. He wanted to know if he’d have to do something about the potential threat. Feeling cornered by Brady’s inquisition, Kristen reversed course and claimed EJ would never harm Rachel.

Meanwhile, at the hospital, EJ became the center of discussion for Philip and Sarah, too. The doctor filled Philip in on Holly’s diagnosis and her suspicion that DiMera Pharmaceuticals could be behind contaminated drugs. Philip was irate that EJ had once again possibly hurt a member of his family. He vowed to take care of the EJ problem once and for all, with “a side of arsenic” if necessary. Sarah cautioned Philip about letting the Kiriakis and DiMera feud spiral out of control.

Later, Brady paid Sarah a visit and was heartened to hear that Holly had been responding well to her treatment for arsenic poisoning. His news that the search of her office hadn’t turned up any meaningful information about who had left the clue put a damper on the optimism, though. Sarah was grateful her mystery helper had provided essential information, but she also believed the same person could have been responsible for Holly’s troubles – along with the deaths of Destiny and her sister. Brady mused about all the people who could have had access to the office, most notably the owner of the hospital: EJ.

Tate briefly interrupted the conversation. Sarah gave him an update on Holly and sent him on his way, with flowers, to see his girlfriend. She then turned her attention to the results of the water test, which revealed that the well water sample contained arsenic…but had no traces of Coriseal.

The Joy of Fatherhood

At Alex and Stephanie’s place, Alex returned and informed Stephanie the tire change for Joy had gone smoothly. Noting his wife’s barely concealed irritation, Alex reassured her it hadn’t been a big deal and that Joy had truly needed help. Stephanie vented her frustrations that Alex would be at Joy’s beck and call constantly, and she insinuated Joy was manipulating him. When she questioned if Joy might have “caused” the flat tire herself, Alex scoffed that she was being overly paranoid. His response didn’t land well with Stephanie, who accused Alex of calling her “crazy." Alex defended himself before leaving in frustration, invoking Stephanie’s line that he “needed some air.”

Later, Philip arrived at Stephanie’s doorstep to check on her. She invited him inside and opened up about the entire situation with Joy after Philip admitted Chloe had told him about the near-shooting. Stephanie implored Philip to believe the shooting hadn’t been intentional and she hadn’t gone “crazy,” as some people seemed to believe. Philip reassured Stephanie he had faith in her, and he could relate more than anyone to the struggle of overcoming bad times, bad perceptions, and bad choices. He still shouldered some of the blame, since his prior relationship with Stephanie had been the reason why Owen had initially come into her life.

It was Stephanie’s turn to reassure Philip. She wanted to move forward and turn a new page, like he had done with his life. The exes talked a bit about Philip’s breakup with Gabi, with Stephanie offering her support and friendship. She also offered her PR services as Titan battled to stay afloat.

Meanwhile, in Horton Town Square, Alex got a pep talk from his stepmother Bonnie. When Alex lamented feeling pulled in all directions, Bonnie jokingly compared him to “Stretch Armstrong” before getting serious about the challenges of parenthood. Fierce protectiveness was always the first instinct, and Bonnie freely admitted she’d screwed up many times. Alex commended her for rising from trying circumstances and turning her life around. Bonnie returned the compliment and reminded Alex he had done the same.

Bonnie advised her stepson to handle the challenges day by day and to always be present for the people he loved. She readily embraced Alex’s suggestion that he take his visits with Kelsey to the Kiriakis mansion. Alex thanked Bonnie for the talk, and she reinforced that he was “like a son” to her and she would always be there and present for him. The duo sealed their growing bond with a hug.

When Alex later returned home, he was greeted by the unwelcome sight of Stephanie sharing a light-hearted conversation with his cousin Philip. After Philip took his leave, Stephanie commented on her ex’s kindness and thoughtfulness. Unlike him, Alex snarked. Stephanie shot back that Alex had called her “crazy.” The couple backed off before things escalated into a full-blown argument.

Alex promised Stephanie his eyes were “wide open” regarding Joy and, if necessary, he would take steps to keep her from coming between them. But as she embraced him, Stephanie looked uncertain about Alex’s proclamation.

The Good DiMera

At DiMera Enterprises, Gabi strolled into Theo’s office and asked for a favor. Theo was in disbelief at Gabi’s gall after how she had treated him. She had also come to visit Ari, but Ari had actively avoided her. Theo said he’d have done the same thing and walked in the other direction if he had seen Gabi coming. Gabi asked Theo to give her a break, as she’d lost her boyfriend, her daughter, and her good friend in short order.

When Theo inquired who was to blame for those events, Gabi readily admitted, “Me.” As Gabi teared up, Theo offered her a tissue and asked what she had wanted. She requested Theo’s silence about her “donation” to Titan. The request set Theo off anew, and he lambasted Gabi and everyone else who tried to take advantage of his standing as the “good DiMera.” Gabi called Theo out on his selfish motives for giving her the inheritance: he wouldn’t have to see her daily in court; plus, he knew the money was truly hers, and could do with it as she pleased.

Theo conceded that while what Gabi was doing with the money was “despicable,” it wasn’t his place to cause more friction. He wouldn’t say anything. Gabi thanked him and then pressed Theo on whether he could ever forgive her, since so many other people had done so much worse. While Gabi might be right, Theo was still hurt because he’d pledged his innocence to Gabi and she’d rebuked him and questioned his character. He asked her to leave, and Gabi begrudgingly complied.

Later, in Horton Town Square, Gabi bumped into Gwen, who had one of Gabi’s designer bags in tow. The friends casually caught up, and Gwen gushed about how useful the bag had been to her. Gabi confided the bag hadn’t been selling well. Her eyes widened as she got a closer look at the bag. It was a counterfeit...and someone was selling low-quality knock-offs of her product!

Back in Theo’s office, Theo fielded a call from Johnny and got another visit, this time in the form of his aunt Kristen. She, too, wanted a favor – and once again it was in regards to EJ. Kristen compelled Theo to let her know if Uncle EJ said anything about Rachel. Theo side-eyed the favor, as he didn’t want any part of his aunt and uncle’s latest drama. Kristen urged Theo to take the blinders off about EJ, because EJ wasn’t the “dry-witted” and “doting” uncle that Theo saw. Theo didn’t know the real EJ, just as he hadn’t known the real Stefano.

Theo was offended with Kristen’s implication that he was too “stupid” to understand the family’s complicated past. Kristen listed some of Stefano’s darkest moments: leading her to believe her own mother had died, brainwashing his son, and especially what he had done to Lexie. The mention of his mom put Theo on alert, and he demanded answers.

Kristen obliged Theo, since he would find out the truth sooner or later. Theo’s “beloved Nonno” and his nefarious actions had caused Lexie’s brain tumor – and had been the reason why Theo had lost his mother.

Will Kristen’s truth bomb cause the good DiMera to go bad? Will Alex really take the Joy out of his life? Has EJ added counterfeit purse-maker to his long list of misdeeds? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
