Abe escorted Lexie to his home. Lexie and Abe pried about Theo’s new love interest, but he avoided the question. While Theo stepped out, Lexie told Abe she did not think she could accept Abe still having Paulina in his life. Lexie suggested that Abe cut Paulina off for a while.

Lexie told Theo that she was proud of him, and she did not think he should have given up the CEO job. Lexie explained that she had wanted something better for the DiMera name, and she believed Theo could do that. Abe disagreed. Chanel almost told Theo about her cancer, but she was interrupted when Theo had a panic attack.

Alex introduced Kelsey to Justin and Bonnie. Joy was nervous to leave Alex alone with their daughter, but the outing went well. When Alex said he wanted to have a playdate with Stephanie next, Joy was hesitant, because she did not believe Stephanie would be able to feel maternal toward Kelsey.

Jada asked Johnny about Sophia’s attack. Johnny confirmed that Sophia had known his family’s plans that day. Johnny told EJ that he did not want to fight for his job because he needed to focus on Chanel’s health as she fought cancer. EJ asked Theo if he would be interested in returning to DiMera to help Johnny, as he supported Chanel during her cancer treatment. Theo was shocked to hear the news, and he told Abe about Chanel’s diagnosis.

Kate and Roman clear the air

Roman apologized to Kate for having questioned her motives in the lawsuit. Marlena told Xander that he needed to drop the lawsuit and apologize to Johnny, or else she would refuse to treat Xander anymore. Xander argued that Marlena’s ultimatum was extortion, but Marlena argued that part of Xander’s therapy was to move beyond his cycle of abuse and regret.

Marlena promised that if Xander dropped the lawsuit, she would continue to treat him, and she would work at Basic Black with Kate. Xander expressed concern for Kate’s marriage if the truth came out, but Marlena argued that Roman had a right to know. Xander left Kate a voicemail that warned her that he was going to drop the lawsuit, and that it might expose her to Roman.

Chanel told Paulina that she had breast cancer. When Chanel and Johnny met with her oncologist, Dr. George, his cold bedside manner upset Chanel. Chanel announced that she would not be pressured into undergoing treatment by a doctor who did not see her as a person.

Johnny and Chanel fought about the treatment, and Paulina convinced Chanel to get a second opinion. Chanel promised that if the new doctor alleviated her concerns and agreed with the treatment, she would start before the baby was born. Abe reached out to Paulina to comfort her about Chanel’s diagnosis. Paulina told Abe that she understood why he had cut off ties with her.

Mark told Cat that Rolf’s drug could help their mother, but it had not been approved by the FDA. Cat asked EJ about the treatment, and he promised to have Rolf review her mother’s case. Cat told Rafe about the trap she had set for EJ, and she promised to deliver the drug to the ISA and not use it on her mother. Mark found that the main rat in the drug study had died. After further review, Rolf told EJ that he was concerned that there was a problem with the drug. Lexie experienced a possible side effect of the drug when she experienced a dizzy spell.

Money talks

Gabi updated Philip about the status of her inheritance, but Philip refused to take any money. When Gabi apologized about Theo, Philip confirmed he had learned the truth from someone else. Gabi apologized to Theo, but he refused to accept it. Theo argued that it was clear that Gabi did not understand him.

Gabi and Rafe celebrated Ari’s birthday. While Gabi stepped out to talk to Xander, Ari asked Rafe to track down Liam for her to get closure on her relationship. Rafe said no. In the square, Xander asked Gabi about the DiMera money. Gabi explained that Philip had refused the inheritance. Xander warned Gabi that he would pursue charges against her for corporate espionage if she did not give Titan the money.

Paulina informed EJ that the state medical board had taken the first step to remove the hospital from EJ’s control. When EJ noted there was no buyer, Paulina told him that Gwen wanted to buy it. Gwen gave Leo an exclusive on her history with EJ and Rolf’s drug. Gwen told Leo about the letter with her lawyer Leo should use to expose EJ if Gwen died. Gwen admitted that Leo was the only person she trusted to handle the matter. Worried, Leo said he could not bear to lose Gwen, and he needed her to be careful. Later, EJ confronted Gwen about her maneuver to steal the hospital from him, and she warned him that she had made arrangements to expose EJ if she turned up dead.

Foster Date

Julie went out on an awkward first date with Foster. Also, Leo ran into JJ and Javi in the square. JJ told Leo that he was a new EMT with the department, along with Gus. Leo told Javi that he hoped things worked out the way he wanted them to with Gus.

Sarah treated a patient in the free clinic. When Sarah dismissed the patient’s pain as dehydration from a stomach bug, the patient walked out. Sarah ran into the patient in the square later, and the woman collapsed in front of her. Javi and JJ helped Sarah treat Destiny at the scene, but she died. JJ told Sarah that Destiny had a history of drug use, but Sarah was insistent that Destiny had not been high when she had examined her in the clinic. Sarah felt responsible for Destiny’s death. To help distract Sarah, Xander took Sarah home, and they spent the evening playing with their daughter.

Sarah dreamed that Xander told her that he had decided to live in the mansion permanently and that they declared their love for one another. In the dream, Brady interrupted an intimate moment with Xander, and she talked about her conflicted feelings for the two men. When Sarah woke up, she returned to obsessing about the cause of Destiny’s death. Sarah learned that Destiny’s sister had been involved with Liam, and she had also died of an overdose. Sarah reached out to Brady for help investigating Destiny’s case.

Belle insisted that she and Brady figure out why a pawn had been missing from Stefano’s chess set. Over family dinner, Marlena showed her kids the coin she had found at John’s gravesite. Marlena said she believed it was a message from John that he would always be near. Belle was hopeful that John was alive, but Brady confirmed the DNA test on John’s ashes was conclusive.
