In today’s Days of our Lives recap for June 1, 2026, Johnny gave Jada a clue, Lexie pressured Abe, Gabi got the brush-off twice-over, and Mark’s reports of resurrection may have been greatly exaggerated.

At the DiMera offices, EJ wanted to strategize with Johnny about Tony’s attempts to install a new CEO. Johnny, however, upended his father’s plans by announcing he would be stepping down. As EJ prodded him about throwing the company into chaos once again, a frustrated Johnny listed off the reasons why he’d made his decision: the crazy work hours, the young infant at home, and the pregnant wife who was –

EJ took note when Johnny cut himself off and encouraged his son to open up. Johnny admitted Chanel had cancer, so he needed to be present for his family. EJ asked if he could do anything. Johnny stressed Chanel and he wanted to keep the diagnosis in-family.

More importantly, Johnny just wanted his dad’s support — including support for his decision to step away from DiMera. EJ affirmed family should always come first and stressed to his son not to make the same mistakes EJ had in his marriage. He offered his full support to Johnny.

Jada also stopped by to ask Johnny follow-up questions about Sophia’s attempt on his life. With a pointed glance at EJ, she requested privacy, so EJ took his leave. Jada informed Johnny that the gun Sophia had used to pistol-whip him had been retrieved from the river. The police had reason to believe Sophia had gotten the gun from someone else, and they wanted to track down that person. Jada quizzed Johnny about anything unusual Sophia might have said while she was with him.

Johnny gave it some thought, then indicated Sophia had somehow known he would be alone that day because Chanel and Lani were out of town. Though he tried, Johnny couldn’t think of anyone he’d told about the trip who might have in turn told Sophia. Jada compelled Johnny to get in touch with her if he remembered anything else.

At Johnny and Chanel’s place, Paulina paid a visit to Chanel and quickly observed her daughter’s exhausted state. Chanel admitted she hadn’t slept. While Paulina assumed the insomnia had been related to Trey staying awake, Chanel confessed she had gotten bad news at the hospital. With some reluctance, Chanel finally told Paulina that she’d been diagnosed with breast cancer. Paulina wanted details, so Chanel updated her on the case: the cancer was Stage 2B; it was growing aggressively; Chanel had treatment options that would be complicated by the pregnancy.

Before Paulina could spiral, Chanel stressed she had reason to hope and wanted to stay optimistic. Most of all, she didn’t want her mom to work herself into a panicked state, especially given everything Paulina had endured recently. Paulina pledged she would stay hopeful because she knew her daughter was strong and brave. Chanel credited Paulina with instilling those qualities in her. Paulina would be there every step of the way for Chanel, just as Chanel had been there for her during her own cancer battle.

While Chanel had the support of her husband and her sister, sometime she would need her “Mama” most of all. Chanel agreed to lean on Paulina whenever things became overwhelming. Paulina started the process by giving Chanel a much-needed opportunity to rest. When Chanel retired to the bedroom, Paulina fielded work calls only to have Chanel return a few minutes later, unable to sleep. Chanel encouraged her mom to go to work and assured Paulina she’d be fine. But after Paulina left, Chanel broke into sobs, waking Trey up in the process.

Paulina, meanwhile, returned to her room at the Salem Inn. Visibly upset, she began doom-scrolling on her computer for information about breast cancer.

Awkward family reunion

At Abe’s place, Abe – along with Theo – welcomed Lexie to his new abode. The family took a moment to enjoy being together again, then Lexie suggested they go out so Abe and Theo could get her reacquainted with Salem and its many changes. Theo suggested they stay home instead, and he would cook them all a meal. The revelation that Theo had become an amateur chef led to a light moment between the three. Things took their first turn at awkward, though, as Lexie looked through photographs of Theo and spotted Claire.

Lexie made some nasty remarks about her son’s ex-girlfriend and asked about Theo’s current love life. Things got even more awkward when Theo admitted he’d been crushing on someone who had recently lashed out at him for something he hadn’t done. Uncomfortable with the conversation, Theo made an excuse to leave. Once they were alone, Abe and Lexie talked briefly about Theo and the changes he’d undergone. Lexie was certain Theo would find “the one,” just as she had…and she brought home her point by kissing Abe, who still couldn’t believe Lexie was there in the flesh with him.

The newly reunited spouses didn’t have much time to bask in their reunion before Lexie redirected the conversation to Paulina, which made Abe uncomfortable as well. Lexie wondered how Abe felt about having his old love in the home he’d shared with his new love. Abe conceded that he felt badly for Paulina. He told Lexie that Paulina had always accepted that Lexie would forever be in his heart, leading Lexie to ask if Paulina would likewise always be in Abe’s heart. She let him know she couldn’t be so accepting if that were the case.

In fact, Lexie would prefer Abe not even speak to Paulina, so the former Mrs. Carver would “get the hint.” Abe seemed taken aback. But he did reaffirm his commitment to being a family with Lexie and with Theo. He shared another kiss with Lexie.

Gabi’s apology tour gets canceled

In Horton Town Square, Gabi ran into Philip, who still had no time for her. Gabi stopped her ex before he could leave and told him she was closer than ever to securing her portion of the DiMera fortune. Attempting to halt Philip’s departure again, she pitched her case for why Philip should accept her offer to give him part of her inheritance. Philip was unmoved and uninterested in taking any of Gabi’s guilt money, even if it meant helping rescue Titan. Frustrated, Gabi started reiterating all of the things she was sorry for, including Philip having to find out the truth about what she’d done from Theo.

Philip informed Gabi Theo hadn’t told him a thing, and he refused to disclose who did. A contrite Gabi raced off to make amends with Theo. She unsuccessfully reached him by phone and was relieved when she saw him approaching. Although Theo tried to avoid her, Gabi got out her apology for the way she’d accused him of betraying her. Theo asked what had brought Gabi to her new conclusion.

Gabi — taking Philip’s bitter advice to be honest — told Theo Philip had set her straight. Gabi’s admission did nothing to assuage Theo, as he’d stupidly thought Gabi might actually believe him because she knew him and his true character. He essentially refused the apology and walked away.

While in the square, Theo saw Chanel, who had taken a fussy Trey out for a stroll. The step-siblings got caught up. Chanel emphasized that Theo shouldn’t feel guilty for being glad his mom was home. Although things would be “different” between them, Theo and she were still family. And as family, Chanel wanted to tell Theo something.

Before Chanel could say anything, though, Theo became distressed. Chanel got him over to a bench and calmed him down. Theo admitted major changes that disrupted his routine could trigger an autism-related “meltdown.” While he’d developed coping strategies, recent events in his life had proven overwhelming. Chanel apologized for saying the “difference” that would befall the bond between Theo and her.

Chanel stressed the family bond would remain intact. When Theo asked what Chanel had wanted to tell him, Chanel smiled and claimed it hadn’t been anything important.

Across the square, Gabi reapproached Philip and confronted him about reneging on the Titan and Gabi Chic shipping deal. Philp reaffirmed he wanted nothing more to do with Gabi or her business. Gabi realized that underneath all his anger, Philp was speaking from “heartbreak.” While she was heartbroken, too, business was business. Philip had made a deal, and Gabi intended to hold him to it.

Miracle drug — or snake oil?

In EJ’s hospital lab, Cat updated Mark on her and Aaron’s visit with their mom. Catharina was not responding well to treatment and seemed to be getting worse in her mental decline. Mark hated to hear the news and felt frustrated that he was so close to a “miracle drug” but couldn’t use it to save his mom.

Cat was intrigued by the implication that the drug might be able to restore cognitive functioning in a living person. She pondered it the drug could work on Catharina. Mark shot down the idea because the drug was still years away from official approval. Cat’s suggestion that they skirt the rules surprised Mark, so he questioned his by-the-book sister’s new perspective.

Cat backtracked and said she didn’t want to invite more legal trouble for Mark. She, however, would have “plausible deniability” if she asked EJ for help. Mark discouraged his sister from making waves with a man like EJ or getting herself into trouble, but Cat assured her brother that she could “handle” EJ.

Later, Cat met her boss in the waiting area and put her plan into action. She began by thanking EJ for giving her time off to attend Sophia’s memorial and to visit her mother. EJ, fresh from his visit with Johnny, repeated his assertion that family should take precedence. Cat took the opening and declared she had a “big favor” to ask of EJ. She briefly explained her mom’s condition and asked if EJ would consider Catharina for a clinical trial of his drug.

EJ indicated a clinical trial wouldn’t be necessary. He was prepared to give Cat direct access to the drug. Cat thanked him profusely. But when EJ departed, she promptly made a call to Rafe. She had set a trap, and EJ had fallen right into it.

Back in the lab, Mark appeared disturbed by a development with one of his miracle experimental rats. The reanimated rat had apparently died for a second time. “You came to life once before, and you can do it again,” the lab tech urged.
