Days of our Lives Recap, March 16: Rescued Stephanie is reunited with loved ones

Here’s your Days of our Lives recap for March 16, when Jeremy and Stephanie deal with the fallout of their captivity, Owen holds back, Cat doesn’t hold back with EJ, and the pod puzzles Rafe and Paulina.

What happened on Days of our Lives

In the lab's secret room, Rafe gaped at the glowing pod. However, when he opened it, the pod was empty.

Meanwhile, an enraged Alex grabbed Jeremy and pushed him away from Stephanie. He managed to rouse his wife and to get her settled in a chair while telling her how much he loved her. Jeremy advised Alex that they needed to leave, which flared Alex’s anger anew. He rushed toward Jeremy and punched him in the face. As Alex moved in to inflict more damage, Stephanie screamed at him to stop.

The commotion summoned Rafe, who raced into the room just as Stephanie was frantically explaining that Owen, not Jeremy, had kidnapped her. Alex bristled after she added that Jeremy had saved her life. As Jeremy compelled Rafe to call for help, Alex returned to Stephanie’s side and snapped, “I can take care of my wife.”

At the hospital, Paulina urged Kayla to remain optimistic. Paulina firmly believed Stephanie would be found safe and sound. Although Kayla was grateful for the support everyone in town had shown her family, she couldn’t help but worry about her daughter. Kayla’s prayers were answered when Rafe and Alex arrived on the scene, with Stephanie and Jeremy in tow. Kayla hugged Stephanie and quickly got her daughter into an examining room.

Rafe stayed behind and updated Paulina on the events of the day. When he mentioned discovering a secret pod in EJ’s lab, Paulina tensed and asked if Rafe had opened it. Paulina’s panic turned to bewilderment after Rafe informed her that the pod had been vacated. Once alone, she wondered aloud what EJ had done with Lexie.

At the DiMera mansion, Cat kissed EJ and almost immediately pulled away. As she started to apologize, EJ pulled her into a deeper kiss.

When the kiss ended, EJ explained that he’d initially felt “embarrassed” about almost kissing Cat before because he’d assumed she didn’t return his feelings. Cat said she hadn’t believed she had felt anything more for EJ…until she’d remembered kissing him when they were both in Italy. EJ had no recollection of a prior kiss.

Cat started to fumble out an explanation about how she’d gotten “carried away” while reading to him in Italy, but the conversation was interrupted by text alerts both had gotten. EJ’s text was from Rolf, who claimed the lab problem had been “taken care of.” EJ texted back and asked about Stephanie and Jeremy. Cat’s text was from “James,” aka Rafe, who wanted to know EJ’s location.

Later, Rafe arrived on the scene with a new set of questions. EJ feigned surprise when Rafe told him that Stephanie and Jeremy had been found on hospital grounds — and in a secret room of his lab. Rafe showed EJ a photo he had taken of the pod and asked who had been inside, but EJ wouldn’t divulge anything.

EJ did insist he had no knowledge of what his former employee, Owen, had done. Rafe wasn’t buying it and placed EJ under arrest. As a protesting EJ was led out, he instructed Cat to call Rita.

In the park, Steve grabbed Owen and placed him in a chokehold. He demanded that Owen reveal where he had taken Stephanie. Owen, through gasps and chokes, said Steve would never find Stephanie. Although he would never hurt Stephanie, if Owen couldn’t have her, then no one else could. As Steve’s grip tightened and his desperation grew, Brady stepped in, talked Steve down somewhat, and tried to appeal to Owen.

Later, Brady and Steve brought Owen into custody. Owen sneered and remained defiant as Jada took him into the interrogation room. Steve took a moment to thank Brady for his help and to affirm how proud John would be of his son. A call from Paulina sent a relieved Steve to the hospital. Before he left, Steve asked Brady to stay behind and try to get more information from Owen.

Brady obliged and went into the interrogation room after Jada left for the hospital. He implied he had saved Owen’s life, for which Owen said he owed Brady. When Brady asked Owen if he wanted food, Owen replied that all he wanted was Stephanie. Brady got Owen to open up about how the abduction had transpired.

Owen had believed he’d gotten over Stephanie. But when he had returned to town for work, the proximity to her had “triggered” his old feelings. Once Owen learned Stephanie was Anastasia Sands, he read her book. He’d realized he was in love with her and that they’d always be connected. With a smile, Owen said their experience together had indeed connected them forever.

Back at the hospital, a still-dazed Stephanie lay in a bed as Kayla examined her. Stephanie assured Kayla and Alex that Owen had not physically harmed her. When Kayla hugged her, though, Stephanie thought back to kissing Owen and gasped. She promised her concerned mom and husband that nothing was wrong. She also asked about Jeremy, which seemed to bother Alex.

Later, Steve arrived and rushed to his daughter. He took her in his arms and broke down in tears. Steve expressed his love and relief that Stephanie was okay. Jada was the next to welcome Stephanie back. Stephanie thanked everyone who had helped her get back safely.

After Steve confessed how guilty he felt for allowing Stephanie’s abduction to happen, Stephanie assured him that she felt nothing but gratitude for her Papa and for anyone who had aided in the search. While she stated it was over and she wanted to move on, when no one was looking, her haunted expression said otherwise.

Jeremy ended a call with Julie while in his hospital room when Jada arrived. He asked about Stephanie, and Jada told him Stephanie would be fine physically. She asked how Jeremy was doing, and Jeremy sarcastically asked if he needed his attorney to answer the question. Jada apologized for herself and on behalf of everyone who had believed Jeremy was guilty.

Later, Jeremy welcomed a more unexpected visitor when Alex asked to speak with him. Alex, too, admitted that he owed Jeremy a huge apology for “believing the worst of you.” Jeremy shrugged it off and said Alex hadn’t been the only one. He reiterated that all he had ever wanted was for Stephanie to be happy. After the adversaries seemingly made peace, Jeremy asked about Alex referring to Stephanie as his wife.

Alex said Stephanie and he had eloped. Jeremy cracked that during all their time together in captivity, Stephanie had never mentioned that piece of information. Alex asked if Jeremy still intended to leave town. “I’ll have to think about it,” Jeremy responded, with a slight smile.

At the nurses’ station, Kayla and Steve comforted each other and counted their blessings that their girl had been returned to them safely.

Meanwhile, Alex returned to Stephanie’s room and pledged he would get a new ring to replace the one Owen had taken. He wanted to know what he could do for Stephanie. As memories of her ordeal with Owen flashed through her mind, Stephanie replied, “Hold me.” Alex complied, and Stephanie cried in his arms.
