Here’s your Days of our Lives recap for Wednesday, March 25, when Rachel and her family prepare for a consequential court date, Liam and Ari share a close moment, and Leo and Gwen have a decidedly frostier encounter.
What happened on Days of our Lives

At the hospital, Leo looked for an update about Dimitri on his laptop before receiving an unwelcome visit from Gwen, and the former friends soon began trading barbs. Gwen needled Leo about losing both his loves and being alone again. Leo vowed that he would prove Gwen responsible for setting up Dimitri. Although Leo knew Gwen still hated him, he didn’t believe she had it in her to order him killed because she still cared about him, too.
Gwen scoffed, but her bravado faltered. Leo laid out his theory that Gwen had been in cahoots with EJ the entire time and that the two had been conspiring together about the secret lab project. Leo attributed all the hush-hush conversations — and Gwen getting trapped in the lab — to her and EJ’s partnership. Since Gwen wasn’t a killer at heart, Leo was certain that EJ had been the one to “execute” Vivian and set Dimitri up. He wondered if Gwen would “abandon ship” on EJ once the full truth came out.

At the nurses’ station, Brady bemoaned the situation with Holly’s pills and Rachel’s potential culpability to Sarah, who urged Brady not to jump to conclusions about his daughter without first speaking to Rachel. Brady realized the conversation would have to wait because his priority and focus needed to be on Rachel’s imminent hearing. He couldn’t understand how Rachel could have done something so reprehensible again, especially after the talk he’d had with her earlier. Brady told Sarah about Rachel seemingly giving the green light to Sarah and him, which made both happy but worried about a setback in the girl’s mental health.
Marlena joined the conversation, and Brady filled her in on the situation with the pills. After examining the pill bottle, Marlena confirmed Brady’s worst fears: the pills matched Rachel’s medication. Marlena’s assertion that Rachel could already be experiencing adverse effects if she was going without her pills further concerned Brady. Marlena pledged she would help Brady confront Rachel, but first they had to get her through the hearing unscathed.

At the dorms, Ari saw an alert on her tablet about the shooting involving Vivian’s minion. After she left to fetch some food, Liam took a look at the screen and read that Klaus was dead. His relief was short-lived, though, when EJ — accompanied by his own minion — showed up at the door. EJ strolled inside and coolly explained that he’d been able to track Liam’s location because of the phone calls Liam had made. He also commended Liam on a job well-done for taking care of the Klaus problem.
Liam protested that he hadn’t shot Klaus, but EJ blew off the explanations and told Liam that his other problem. Klaus’s employer, Vivian, had been disposed of as well. Liam quickly got the hint that EJ had ordered said disposal. Liam forgot his fear and lashed out after EJ made a sarcastic crack about his illiteracy and pondered if Ari knew about Liam’s checkered past. EJ took Liam’s outburst in stride and announced he was no longer in need of Liam’s services…for the time being, at least.
Ari, who’d had a brief discussion with Belle in Horton Town Square about the shooting, returned after EJ left. She asked Liam why he was still hiding from the cops even after Klaus’ death. Liam remained vague on his reasons and grew panicked when he learned Ari was related to the district attorney and the cop who had been shot. He insisted he had to leave, get back to his life, and let Ari get back to hers. Ari reluctantly let him go, but not before laying a kiss on her new friend.

In Horton Town Square, EJ bumped into Sarah on his way to the hearing. Sarah let him know that Brady had told her all about the real circumstances of the shooting. EJ confirmed the story and that he’d be testifying. When Sarah defended Rachel as a little girl who’d made a mistake, however, EJ balked. He reminded Sarah how they both knew, better than most, that at her core, Rachel was her mother’s daughter.
The conversation got heated as Sarah called EJ out on his own misdeeds — the most recent of which involved using her family’s hospital legacy as a front for his illegal experiments. EJ countered that his “innovations” had saved the hospital. Sarah wasn’t convinced and declared that if anyone in the DiMera family could change for the better, her money was on Rachel…not EJ. Sarah left a seething EJ behind just as Marlena approached and asked what had happened.

At Brady’s new place, Rachel nervously prepared for her day in court. She asked Kristen if she could wear lipstick, but Kristen said Rachel needed to look like the “innocent girl” she had always been. Rachel said she wasn’t innocent. Kristen disagreed and laid the blame for what had happened to EJ entirely on EJ. Rachel questioned whether her mom planned to do something to her uncle.
Kristen reminded Rachel of an important lesson she’d taught her daughter: wait until the right moment to strike. Until then, keep one’s cards close to the vest. Rachel remembered the lesson well. Kristen told Rachel that if she was having second thoughts about confessing, then she didn’t have to go through with it. Rachel was insistent that she wanted to tell the truth.
Later, Rachel, Kristen, Brady, Belle, Melinda, and Marlena convened in the judge’s chambers. Rachel hugged her grandma and thanked Marlena for coming, but was distressed when Marlena explained she couldn’t stay for the hearing. Marlena promised she would stay close, and Belle went over instructions. Brady made comments indicating he wanted to talk with Rachel about something important, but before Rachel could pry, the judge arrived.

Everyone took their seats as Kristen took Rachel’s hand as the judge began the hearing. For the first matter of business, the judge asked if Kristen wanted to recant her confession. Kristen confirmed that she did. The judge said that by recanting, Kristen would be admitting to perjury. Belle and Melinda both advocated on behalf of Kristen and argued the “extenuating circumstances.”
The judge was unconvinced by the arguments and took Belle to task for her lack of outrage regarding Kristen’s crime. The judge announced she was inclined to hand Kristen the maximum sentence for perjury: seven years in prison. Commotion ensued, and Rachel reacted with alarm. Kristen, on the other hand, let her frustration and anger fly. Staring down the judge, she challenged the woman to forego the hearing and send her back to prison.
