Here is your Days of our Lives recap for Tuesday, March 31, 2026, when Kate blindsided Johnny, Amy appealed to Sophia, Chanel encouraged Stephanie, and Owen antagonized Jeremy and Alex.
What happened on Days of our Lives

At Johnny and Chanel’s apartment, Chanel admitted she was anxious about Sophia. Johnny said that he had asked EJ to assign a security detail to watch Trey while he was out with the babysitter.
Sophia was in her childhood bedroom packing a bag when Amy walked in. Amy gasped when Sophia spoke. Sophia explained she had signed herself out of Bayview. “You’re back where you belong,” Amy whispered as she hugged her daughter.
Sophia argued that her room felt like a prison. When Amy said she did not realize Sophia had felt that way, Sophia argued that Amy had never understood how she had felt because Amy had taken no real interest in her as a person. “Maybe if you hadn’t been so busy trying to control me and force your beliefs on me, then maybe you’d actually know what I believed in. And what I wanted for my own life,” Sophia argued. Sophia said Amy’s plan had led to her landing in a mental institution and her baby being adopted by a couple she despised.
“I went to the court yesterday to tell the judge that Johnny and Chanel should not keep my son, and they didn’t listen to me. Nobody ever listens to me!” Sophia yelled. Amy asked Sophia what she needed. Sophia told Amy that she wanted to cut ties with her family. Amy told Sophia that she loved her and would help her with whatever she needed.
“I appreciate that, Mom. And I am sorry. But you’re too late,” Sophia said. Amy apologized for having been a bad mother and asked to start over. Amy offered to help Sophia go to school and find part-time work while she lived at home. “And if you need me, I’ll be here for you. If not, I’ll give you your space. And whatever you choose to do, I will support it. But we’ve missed you, Sophia. And we love you,” Amy said. After a moment, Sophia agreed to stay.

At Titan, Philip wanted to focus on being grateful for Stephanie’s safe return, but Kate insisted that Philip ask Stephanie about her book proposal. Philip gaped. “If I could be back at work mere weeks after being shot and buried alive, I think Stephanie can probably hand in a book proposal,” Kate said. Philip refused, and he told Kate to give Stephanie space to heal. Kate asked Philip if he was in a bad mood because of Vivian’s death, and he grumbled about Kate’s jokes.
“What were her redeeming qualities? Her warmth? Her wit? Or her dexterity with a shovel?” Kate asked. Kate argued that she did not believe that Vivian was dead because no one would agree to exhume the body. Kate reminded Philip that Vivian had faked her death before. Kate noted that Vivian had likely worked with Peter Blake and that Vivian had either faked her death to avoid the DiMera family or the DiMera family had killed Vivian.

In the square, Gabi sat in the cafe and talked to Rafe on the phone. Rafe admitted that the handwriting expert had claimed that Stefan’s signature was inconclusive despite additional handwriting samples. After the call, Gabi whispered to herself, “Stefan is your past. Philip is your future.” When Philip arrived, he complained about how Kate had badmouthed Vivian.
Philip told Gabi about Kate’s theory. Gabi agreed it was possible that Vivian was still alive. “The way that Ivan was sobbing on the phone, that didn’t sound fake to me,” Philip said. With a sigh, Gabi noted that if Vivian were dead, she likely would never learn the truth about her divorce from Stefan. Philip apologized to Gabi for how Vivian had hurt her and Stefan.
“Thanks. It’s not like you had anything to do with it,” Gabi said. With a nod, Philip said he would have attempted to stop Vivian if he had known. Gabi smiled. “But I did have everything to do with what’s happening at Titan,” Philp muttered. Philip lamented that he had not been strong enough to reject Vivian’s proposal. Philip said he was grateful that the family had pulled together.
“But the desperation is starting to show,” Philip said. Philip told Gabi about Kate’s order to push Stephanie for her book proposal. With a sigh, Philip said he hoped they could save the company. “I have faith in you,” Gabi said. When Gabi thanked Philip for confiding in her, he said he hoped she could confide in him as well.

At the hospital, Stephanie dreamed that Owen visited her. Stephanie startled awake, and Alex apologized. “I’m so glad it’s you,” Stephanie said. Chanel visited. Chanel told Stephanie that she was pregnant and that she had formally adopted Trey. Stephanie and Alex congratulated Chanel, and she congratulated Stephanie and Alex on their nuptials.
After Alex left, Chanel gently pushed Stephanie to talk about how she was really doing. “I thought I was resilient, strong,” Stephanie whispered. Chanel argued that Stephanie was those things. “You were just a victim of a horrible, horrible crime. It’s okay to feel vulnerable,” Chanel said. Stephanie admitted that she had believed she had grown since the last time Owen had kidnapped her, but the latest incident had thrown her.
“I have no idea who I am,” Stephanie said. “You are strong, smart, and successful, and an incredibly brave woman who just fought herself out of a horrible situation and survived,” Chanel countered. Stephanie told Chanel that she did not understand why she continued to attract abusive men and make bad choices. Chanel reminded Stephanie that she had never chosen Owen. “But I did choose to publish a romance novel based on my real-life experiences. I thought it would be empowering and cathartic,” Stephanie said. Stephanie blamed herself for ruining Jeremy’s life with her book.
“In some ways, he was a real hero,” Stephanie said. Stephanie told Chanel that Jeremy had helped her through their ordeal. With tears in her eyes, Stephanie complained that she continued to make the wrong decisions. “Alex is the one good choice I’ve made,” Stephanie said. Stephanie lamented that she was starting her marriage in misery.
“Ever since I’ve been rescued, I practically jump out of my skin every time [Alex] touches me,” Stephanie confessed. Chanel stressed that Alex understood, and she suggested that therapy would help. “What if I never stop feeling this way?” Stephanie asked. “You will,” Chanel assured Stephanie. Chanel encouraged Stephanie to talk to Alex about her concerns. Stephanie changed the subject to the adoption, and Chanel told her about Sophia’s interruption. Chanel admitted she was concerned about what Sophia might do.

In the Salem PD interrogation room, Owen told Jeremy he had been the perfect scapegoat. “My own family doubted my innocence. The cops showed up at my school, questioned my students. All because of you. You ruined my reputation,” Jeremy said. Owen argued that Jeremy had damaged his own reputation.
Jeremy told Owen that he planned to sue him. “I’m not worth anything,” Owen countered. Jeremy said he was happy to drag things out and sue Rolf and the DiMera family, too, since they had hired Owen. “They’ll hurt you way worse than I did,” Owen said.
“I’ve worked on [my violent tendencies] in therapy, but that rage, it’s still in me,” Jeremy said. “So that’s why Stephanie left you, isn’t it? My God, how could you hurt her like that?” Owen said. Owen noted that Stephanie had rejected them both. Frustrated, Jeremy warned Owen that he would tear him apart if he went near Stephanie again. Alex walked in, and Jeremy left.
Alex reminded Owen that he was Stephanie’s husband. “What I would really like to do is to make you suffer the same way that you made her suffer, but that wouldn’t make me any better than you,” Alex said. “But you’re not,” Owen countered. Owen listed a number of things he had heard about Alex’s past exploits. “I’m not the one who used [women] like they were an object and then discarded them when I was through with them,” Owen said. Owen argued that Alex had never wanted to be in a serious relationship, and he did not think one would last with Stephanie.
“You think I don’t deserve Stephanie Johnson? Well, I got news for you, friend. You sure as hell don’t either,” Owen said. Alex stressed that Owen could not hurt his marriage and warned Owen that if he was ever released from prison, he would eliminate Owen to protect Stephanie.
After Alex finished, he talked to Jeremy in the bullpen about his visit with Stephanie at the hospital. “I am grateful that you were able to help her,” Alex said. “But you want me to back off,” Jeremy said. Alex said yes. Jeremy noted that it was Stephanie’s decision. Alex reminded Jeremy that Stephanie was his wife. “So you think you can go around policing who she sees, who she’s friends with?” Jeremy asked. Jeremy said he would be there for Stephanie if she needed him.

Johnny met with Kate at Titan. “It’s come to our attention that several passages from ‘One Rainy Afternoon’ are derivative of ‘One Stormy Night’,” Kate said. Kate said she did not believe Bonnie had plagiarized intentionally. “Xander is insisting on action,” Kate said. Johnny argued that fan fiction was everywhere. Kate countered that there was a difference between inspiration and plagiarism.
Kate suggested that they ask DiMera for a settlement. “I cannot just screw over my family’s company to help you,” Johnny argued. Kate warned Johnny that a lawsuit would be worse. Johnny vowed to fight.
