Jada and Steve read through the tips about Stephanie’s disappearance. Kayla called Steve and told him about Jett’s tip. Jada sent officers out to the airfield while she and Steve continued to sift through tips from the hotline. Chad called Steve and told him that Thomas had found Stephanie’s phone and given it to Jeremy before he had left the school. Jada argued that the case against Jeremy was strengthened by the new evidence, but Steve disagreed. Steve noted that if Jeremy had kidnapped Stephanie, it would have been after he had left the school.

“And there were tons of witnesses that saw him there,” Jada said with a nod. “So how does Stephanie’s phone get to the school before Jeremy escaped?” Steve said. Jada suggested an accomplice. Steve noted that Marlena’s profile showed that Jeremy was a loner, and he would not seek help for a crime of passion.

“There’s only one other possibility. That Jeremy’s not the stalker, and he didn’t kidnap Stephanie,” Steve said. Steve concluded that the real kidnapper had planted the phone at the school to frame Jeremy. Jada wasn’t convinced. Jada pulled up the footage from Halloween to review it again, and she noticed that the attacker had worn a mask. “That means it could be somebody else,” Steve said. “But if so, who?” Jada asked.

At the pub, Abe and Paulina had dinner with Kayla and Roman. Abe told Kayla that his nephew, Jett, had told him that he and Jeremy used to use a private hangar at their airport. “[Jett] thinks maybe that’s where he took Stephanie,” Abe said.

Roman informed Kayla that the ISA was working to track down Stephanie. Roman added that Bo and Hope had talked to Robin about some leads. “You’ve got the best of the best out there tracking Stephanie,” Abe said. “My husband included,” Kayla said. Kayla noted that her sons were frustrated that they could not help in the search, but Kayla said she was comforted that there were so many people involved.

“We couldn’t do this without you,” Kayla said. With a sad smile, Kayla told Abe and Roman that Alex and Stephanie had eloped on Valentine’s Day. Kayla said the newlyweds had planned to throw a big wedding later. “We’ll all be there to celebrate that wonderful couple,” Roman said.

At the hospital nurses’ station, EJ thanked Cat for her help. EJ noticed the missing poster of Stephanie. “I hate thinking about that poor woman waiting to be found, wherever the hell that Horton bastard took her,” EJ said. Cat said she hoped EJ’s reward offer would encourage someone to come forward. EJ complimented Cat’s PR efforts and invited her to dinner. Cat noted that she did not expect to be rewarded for doing her job. “You didn’t just do your job. You went above and beyond. And I would like to express my gratitude,” EJ said. Cat agreed to go to dinner.

Owen arrived at the lab, and Rolf complimented him on his punctuality. “Is there anything you need me to handle tonight?” Owen asked. “Yes, there is. And it’s crucial that you handle it with extreme care. Otherwise, all our hard work could go to waste,” Rolf said. Rolf explained that once the process finished, the brain activity would start up and activate the sensors. Rolf instructed Owen to call him immediately if that happened.

“You must give this all your focus,” Rolf said. “You can count on me,” Owen said. With a sigh, Rolf noted that he did not want to leave, but that he needed to eat and rest. As Rolf threw away a can of soda, he noticed Stephanie’s ring in the trash. Owen explained that the ring was for his girlfriend, but he had decided not to propose to her. “So you just threw it in the trash?” Rolf said. Owen claimed it was costume jewelry, but Rolf was suspicious. Owen explained he had been with his girlfriend for a long time.

“It’s complicated,” Owen said. “If you’ve both remained together for such a long time, I’d say you’re more than ready for a lifetime commitment. Surely, you can resolve whatever complications you have,” Rolf said. Owen admitted that he was surprised that Rolf was a romantic. “Love fuels the engine of life, does it not?” Rolf said. Rolf handed the ring to Owen and wished him luck.

When Owen walked into the storeroom, Stephanie appeared to be unconscious. Owen removed Jeremy’s gag, and he asked if Stephanie was okay. “Of course she isn’t. She’s cold. She’s thirsty. She’s exhausted, and she’s scared. Unlike me who is cold, thirsty, exhausted, and really pissed off,” Jeremy muttered. Jeremy questioned Owen’s love for Stephanie because he had treated her so poorly.

“I gave her water. She didn’t want it,” Owen stammered. Jeremy argued that Stephanie had feared that Owen would drug her. “I would never do that!” Owen hissed. “No. You’ll leave her tied up and handcuffed in a freezing closet all day,” Jeremy countered. Owen growled at Jeremy that he would earn Stephanie’s love. Stephanie opened her eyes. Owen removed Stephanie’s gag, and he asked her if she had slept well. Stephanie thought about her conversation with Jeremy about Owen’s delusions.

“I did sleep well. I had this really sweet dream. About you,” Stephanie said. “You were dreaming about me?” Owen whispered. Stephanie told Owen that in the dream, she and Owen had been in love. “I know that I’ve been upset with you, but this dream, it really affected me. It stirred up feelings in me that I didn’t know I had,” Stephanie said. Rolf’s monitor alarm went off, causing Owen to curse. “I have to go, but I’ll be back as soon as I can. Stephanie, you’ve made me so happy,” Owen said before running from the room.

Stephanie dropped her facade, and she said, “I was feeding into his delusions. Like we talked about.” Stephanie argued that it was the best way to save their lives. “Did you have a plan beyond feeding his delusions?” Jeremy asked. “I’m working on it,” Stephanie said. Jeremy suggested they work on a plan together. In the lab, Owen looked at the monitor for the patient, and he called Rolf to tell him that there were signs of life.

As EJ and Cat were leaving, Paulina arrived at the hospital. Paulina demanded to search the hospital for the electrical issue. “I thought we agreed we could handle that next week,” EJ said. “Surprise! It’s gonna be handled right now,” Paulina said. EJ reminded Paulina that she had no evidence that he had committed theft.

“I now have the DPW chief’s findings on the power intake in this hospital. And you know what we found? Proof. The electricity consumption in this hospital has increased the same amount, exact amount, that has been siphoned off from nearby businesses,” Paulina said. Paulina added that the evidence showed that the extra energy was going to the free clinic.

EJ argued that the free clinic was an expansion of the hospital, so it meant that the hospital was using more energy. Paulina argued that the increase was far more than the clinic would have needed to function. EJ’s phone beeped with a text from Rolf that read, “She’s waking up.” EJ told Paulina that he needed to handle an emergency first, but Paulina refused to back down. EJ texted Rolf, and he dismissed Cat for the day. EJ agreed to escort Paulina to the lab.

Paulina insisted on calling the city manager to join them for the search, but EJ said no. “If I were you, I would take a look myself first before you decide who gets to see what’s there,” EJ said. In the lab, Rolf excitedly looked at the activity on the patient’s monitor. EJ texted Rolf with an order to move the cryo tube. “I need your help. Right now!” Rolf told Owen.

In the storeroom, Jeremy and Stephanie talked through their options. After a moment, Stephanie gasped, and she noted that Owen had forgotten to put their gags back on. “The minute that we hear anyone from outside who could potentially be another person, we need to scream like our lives depend on it. Which they do,” Stephanie said. Jeremy agreed. Stephanie noted that she had learned during research that it was possible to escape handcuffs if you dislocated your thumb.

Jeremy asked Stephanie to talk him through the process since he had a trick thumb. Jeremy followed Stephanie’s instructions, and the thumb made noises but did not pop out of place. Outside the door, there was movement. Stephanie and Jeremy screamed for help. Owen walked in, and he put Jeremy and Stephanie’s gags back on.

“You keep screaming like that, and you might actually wake the dead,” Owen said with a chuckle. After Owen left, Jeremy resumed his effort to dislocate his thumb, but he was unsuccessful. Jeremy scooted his chair closer to Stephanie. Stephanie held his hand.

Outside the Brady Pub, Cat called Rafe to tell him what had happened at the hospital between EJ and Paulina. “We definitely have to follow up on this,” Cat said. As Cat entered the pub, Owen walked by. Owen stopped in front of the reward poster of Stephanie and Jeremy.

At the hospital, EJ escorted Paulina into Rolf’s lab. Paulina stared at the pod in the middle of the room. “Someone is in there, isn’t there?” Paulina asked. EJ asked Rolf to leave them alone. “I hope you know what you are doing,” Rolf whispered to EJ on his way out of the room. EJ opened the pod to reveal Lexie, stunning Paulina.
